every Town Screens i have seen before had good and bad sides..
won't include the first two installments, as the graphics were too old, so it's hard to compare them to H6
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Absolutely incredible Towns Screens!!! they were stunning in terms of image, very easy to use and access the buildings and buy units, interactive , with the "right" music.. just perfect..
some examples..
iconic Castle
mysterious Fortress
or simply gorgeous Rampart
For the bad side.. I'd say maybe it was Conflux Town which looked notably worse comparing to the other ones..

Heroes of Might and Magic 4
In Heroes 4 Town Screens still looked pretty.. What was lost is unique location of buildings, all followed similar pattern.. this feature was sacrificed, to bring a new one..
Now change of the terrain reflected on a Town screen as well..
which i find quite logical.. !!! i mean when you are in the middle of Inferno lava, you wouldn't expect a lush forest around your Nature town, isn't it..
The music was still amazing, and the buildings easy to access!!..

Academy - snow
Academy - grass
Preserve - Nature town
Heroes of Might and Magic 5
Heroes 5 brought a revolutional look of Town Screens.. Now they are fully 3D.. camera flies around your city showing it from different angles and perspectives.. Which looked just absolutely stunning!!!
But in the same time it became hard to access the building you wanted as now you had to spent time rotating your Town unless you actually find what you looking for..
Towns Screens in Heroes5
..Might and Magic Heroes 6
and then comes this Horror called Town Windows..
Which stands no comparsion to the previous Town Screens..
Interface is boring.. Town Window is non interactive..
And it's freggin window!!!! and no matter what resolution you choose, it is going to remain the same pop up window...!
just look at it !!!
and don't say that i chose a small image.. it IS going to look that small comparing to the monitor size...
the only promising Town Screen i saw , was actually edited by HC member.. Don-Komandorr!!!!

The town screens were not cartoony,they had nothing to do with warcraft.
Also,i loved WC3 and its expansion.
H5 > H3
at least for me.

H3 > H2 > H5 > H4 > H1 H6
I like almost all of the town structures in H4 individually,
but not the town screens as a whole

Overall, H3 had the best town screens while H2 had the best creature design.
That's my opinion.

There is an image of a Light dragon in the PDF. Not sure if it is a Regular one or if it supposes to depict Elreth

Neutral: Humans, Draconians, Nomads, Tigrans, Frostlings
Evil: Orcs, Goblins, Undead, Dark Elves, Shadow Demons

In short, HOMM seems to have a lot of influences from AoW:SM. Heroes4 started it, Heroes5 and 6 continue it.

In my opinion Heroes2 has better graphics and so8nd effects (not music) than Heroes3. Heroes2 is artwork, Heroes3 - rendered, quasi-3D.

Personally, having played all the games in the series, I always liked the Heroes V town screens the most. They did seem a bit "dead", but I think it could have been jolly well improved in a matter of days.
As for the Heroes III screens, don't really see what's so great about them. But I do believe it's just a matter of personal opinion and taste, since I never really liked the dark and gloomy feel that Heroes III had to it, favoring the lush colors of Heroes II.

With all due respect to Age of Winders 2: Shadow Magic - a game which I like a lot - the races and the creatures there are far less unique than in any Heroes edition. Just a sack of non-faction-specific abilities with different skin and similar stats for the respective level of the creature (very much like the Core-Elite-Champion thing but more diversified). It's not a game about races anyway, it's about wizards and spells and that's where it shines.
