Quote: That's like saying monkeys belong to the same race as humans,
because we're both primates.
It's more like saying all waterliving animals are the same race, or all flying creatures are the same race, or even that all creatures of the same colour are the same race. The term 'beastman' has nothing to do with race at all, it's just a classification used to group a set of creatures that share nothing other than their artificial origin (namely that they were created by wizards through experiments with criminals, or whatever the details are). I don't think you could make offspring from a Harpy with a Sharkman, although I would love to see what it looked like.
uh no,now you are overreacting, because for example whales and fish are totally different,as the ones are mammals and the others are well fish....
I understand your point, but well the heroes world is a fantasy setting, where the term race does not have to be used exactly used as in our world(and especially not if the developers just want to simplify things).
I mean take the demons as example, they are all quite different, especially if you compare for example the nightmare from H5 to the breeder. But they are all demons who are counted as one race.
I would rather say that beastman is the race and that sharkmen, harpies and so on are specific species of that race.

From a scientific perspective, you can't have different species within a race - it's the other way around.
For example: Elves, Humans, Dwarves, and even goblins are all of the species homo sapiens, but they're different races (i.e. ethnicities) within that species. Which is why they can interbreed.
So beastmen could be a race of homo sapiens, because it is a specialized kind of human. Now, within that race you'd have different subraces, such as centaurs, lizardmen, harpies, shark warriors, etc. But the "Beastman" race would still be accurate, in some ways, as a group of humans that have been genetically modified in a similar fashion (i.e. "half-human, half-animal").
Oddly, this distinction is unique to human beings. We don't typically distinguish between different races of dog, for instance - if a new breed is discovered, it's given an entirely new species designation. Which is perhaps inappropriate, because different breeds can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.
it's somewhat irrelevant, though; in Ashan, town types are separated (at least, ostensibly) by faction, not race. So the need for racial distinctions is somewhat lessened.

I reckon only "homo sapiens" can have races, and these are Elves, Humans and Dwarves. The undead are ex-humans. The Orcs were "invented" by the Wizards. I like Tolkien's take on where Orcs come from: Melkor the 1st dark lord took straying Elves and warped and corupted them, turning them into Orcs to use against the races of Elves and Men. That's why most Orcs still have pointy ears!
The animals have different species not races. Eg. griffins, hydras, etc.
So,
Homo sapiens -> races
Animal kingdom -> species

I always wondered why joining the dark side didn't take a bigger toll on elves' looks. I mean, shouldn't they turn into monstrous beings instead of Sailor Moon villains? Please?

The humans didnt become glorious beings of light when they switched worship to Elrath. I dont see why elves should.

Actually, they kinda did. Sun crusader. Floating, glowing priestess (see critical attack). It's the most glorious, shiny Haven so far, and it's a definitely visible change in their overall aspect.
They don't make me sit there wondering "Hmmmm I wonder what dragon these guys worship... The dragon of sexual empowerment? Or maybe the dragon of I'm-secure-enough-in-my-manhood-to-wear-purple-ness?"
Do they worship... Prince?
dark elf.
I'm not expecting total monsters (though personally I'd prefer), but at least something convincingly creepy and mean, as in opposed to the spawns of some sparkly vampire and a skanky succubus.

I for one agree that the Dark Elves ought to be thrown out, but apparently they are so important to the lore of Ashan that not even this prequel in which they are an extreme minority presents an opportunity to keep them out of the faction.
I don't think the Dungeon for H6 is doomed as a result though; I think it could turn out quite well if they will agree to an absolute MAXIMUM of two Dark Elves in the lineup, and hopefully give the Minotaurs their well-deserved former spotlight as both creatures and heroes. The silly BDSM of course has to be seriously scaled back.

I meant physical changes regarding to the humans. Either way the little we have seen of dark elves doesnt look S&M like H5. Seems more warrior like which fits their actitude at H6 time. In H5 their are already established so they are more hedonistic.

Dark Elves, I don't know why, has always been my favourite faction in every kind of game they exist. If there is a Dark Elves faction in a game, I just play with them before every faction. Even in Dawn Of War where the race was actually not elven but Dark Eldar, they have been my favourite, although it was said they are the weakest and I also always felt that they were the weakest They were just dying like flies.
So, I'm rooting for them to be in an expansion.

you want me to tell that for example Kythra does look more warrior-like instead of S&M?
sure not every dark elf hero and not every dark elf unit had the S&M style, but some had(in the case of the units it were both females)

I said that what we have seen more of Dark Elves in HEROES 6 looks WARRIOR like (which was their actitude at the time because they were at war I think). In HEROES 5 the females look all sexual and S&M because they werent at war

Troglodytes Minotaurs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dark Elves > Elves > Humans >>>>>>>>>>>> Dwarfs.
Dark Elves can definitely be made really cool, but then they need to be a lot more mysterious and a lot less kinky. (and they have to give more room for other units...)

About Irina, it seems that she wants to try every faction
Probably the reason she is with Inferno is something related to her brother.
About the Dark Elves, if they appear in H6 as a faction, they can be too much purple, but I don't think this time they're related to S&M
I hope that Sarah will have a custom model for her. It would be nice to have an hero that looks like an angel

For heroes, I like dark elf units that were not put in the game. Female warriors with claw gunlets and armor, and without heels.
I mean, their heroes could look like that, but units that are melee need armor and snowing claws, or twisted blades
