But isn't in the end the root of the problem the skill system itself? Why should every hero have access to every skill at a certain level regardless of other skills chosen? Doesn't that necessarily lead to the same "hero builds" every single time? There are practically no consequences or restrictions resulting from choosing a certain skill (e.g. "blocking" other skill trees). I think Ubihole went too far with their "build your own hero" approach: they wanted to eliminate the luck factor, but they ended up with a repetitive, mundane skill selection instead.
Well that's what I think also, but there are others who disagree. For instance, I find it extremely cheap that I can just learn Heal/Regeneration at level 1 no matter what hero class I play, and have easy access to Resurrection, and it doesn't even tie me up on any of my future skill choices - I don't have to put any more skills into Earth Magic or Light Magic if I don't bother to, and it doesn't limit what other skills I can take.

I wonder if that is why they want level progression to be so slow, so you only get very few skills, and therefore each one is costly - but if that is indeed the idea, I think it's balancing in the completely wrong way, because it makes game less fun, not more.

Perhaps they do intend to bring back witches huts and scholars; that would indeed make a good mix between random and chosen skills that would likely satisfy both parties since you don't get to choose that many skills on a regular hero. I could certainly live with this model if that's the case.

How do we know that? Last time I checked I still needed to be lvl 10 to access tier 2 skills.

When was last time you played ? It's like this since the public beta has started
You might be right... mental hickup...

On a different note:
Do we have any kind of official or semi-official hint that the October delay might be related to finally getting proper town screens?
The last info I read was the "sorry, but we are not going to make it in time. Maybe post-release" note.
And since then I stopped thinking about pre-ordering and decided to wait Ubihole out instead.

It si not likly to be so. The only semi-hint i can remember is Elvins reaction on on of my "I do not like teh TW designe" coments.

His reaction was something inthe style
"Maybe you do not have anything to complain about any more"

I just want to share my current feeling about the game.

We've been watching the development of the game step by step for a long time now. And we have shared our opinions about every step and they have tried to listen to them. The game has been postponed several times as they want to give us a perfect game. There has been plenty of new things added. There is the reputation system. And I have just watched the Conflux videos. And I must say, if the game will not be liked by the players, I will be sad. Because these people have really put all their efforts into the game. They are working really hard to please us and to give us new things alongside the epic Heroes experience. I wouldn't like to see all these go to waste and I sincerely hope the final version of the game to be the best Heroes game ever not only because I want a perfect game, but also these people deserves such appreciation after this hard work which still goes on. I don't know if this sentiment of mine is shared by any of you. Just wanted to say it.

Don't take me wrong, if they fix the town windows and the skill system I'm 100% sold(I can live with most of the other issues: character screens, shared creature pools, too few rare resources)
Actually, I'm pretty psyched already about some of the innovations in H6: especially the unit designs, art direction and the plethora of abilities across all unit tiers - especially at Core level.
I don't think I've ever had more fun creeping than with the combination Crossbowman-Sister-Pretorian. And Necropolis (Archer-Ghost-Ghoul), Sanctuary (Maiden-Kappa) and Stronghold (Harpy-Goblin-Grunt) come pretty damn close.

EDIT: I'm not saying people aren't allowed to like the game in spite of its flaws, or that the devs haven't put a lot of effort into it.

Looking at the video presentation of the conflux, it looks a pretty good idea. Certainly better than a DRM The achievements and various unlockables are the kind that pretty much automatically fill up as you play and I know from personal experience. And amongst them there is some nifty stuff you'll likely want to have but you are not in any way obligated to play online. It's more like the game rewards you for playing it than you actively hunting bonuses. Bestiary, new traits and customizable heroes are great additions.

The only possible drawback is that a new player would have less bonuses than a regular one, except that you can set no dynasty bonuses when you start the game. So a new player could prevent another from using his bonuses until he gets stronger - which shouldn't take long. The passive bonuses Irina spoke of are more of a refined starting bonus which used to be wood/ore, rare resource or artifact. Now you can choose up to 5 bonuses which also means that even if a hero starts with a better specialty, the amount of bonuses can average out his advantage.

Allowing for easy access to the forum, skype or other player's comments from the conflux orbs was another splendid idea. Numerous H5 players kept asking things because they were confused or stuck in some campaigns, this could be remedied.

Achievements are great for replayability and I actually like hunting some hard and rare achievements. It's what kept me so long in Starcraft 2 since I'm not a big RTS multiplayer fan and it's also what still keeps me playing WoW.

I hope they'll allow us some customization in what we accept or disable in game rather than an all or nothing I quite like these Dynasty Traits, but tbh, I'm strongly against Dynasty Artifacts in MP and it would be sad if you have to disable the Traits if you want no Artifacts in your games.

Do you know if we can actually browse and visit other boards rather than being forced to go only to the official board ?

Achievements are generally very overrated, but yes they are really nice.

Just finished watching the conflux videos, must say that it looks nice.

Yeah I agree with this, it would be nice for the player to choose what to allow and what to disable.

Yes, but these numbers refer to "x1" progression, which you will probably only use in Campaigns. On normal maps, you'll probably play at "x3" progression, which means you'll only need to earn XP corresponding to a third of those numbers (because all XP you gain is multiplied by 3).

Cool, and then there's "x10" progression too? That would mean every 9000 XP you level up....quite quick! "x3" seems like a good vibe at every 30000 XP level up, but I suppose the leveling up in general are spread out and not huge towards top levels...
