H6 Duel Map Tournament ~ Go Bonkers! ~

Following a successful series of regular tournaments in the H5 temple of Ashan, the time has come for a revival - Enter the H6 Duel Map!

If you are an old participant I welcome you back and hope your skills are still sharp. If you are new, fear not for the purpose of this tournament is friendly rivalry and enjoying the game, win or lose The Duel Map is specifically designed for quick and easy to set up final battles - you pick the skills of your choice, recruit your units, buy artifacts and you're ready to duke it out in a battle of epic proportions!

Requirements? None whatsoever, just play one duel per week and see if you can advance to the next round Shouldn't be more than one hour.




The Duel Map 3.2 should be placed in the Scenario folder of Might&Magic Heroes VI. By default it can be found in C:\Users\Username\Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\Scenario. If not then create a new folder and name it Scenario.

Place the Seraph Mod in the game directory. It fixes the faulty resurrection of the celestial and rebalances mass agony. This is a Data18.orc file, if you have another Data18.orc please move it elsewhere for the remainder of the tourney.












FEATURES


- Each player has an army strength equivalent of 12 week cores, 10 week elites and 8 week champions. Upgrade and fortification army growth has been taken into account.

- You start with 27 ability points and 1000 reputation points to spend as you wish.

- In the underground you will be presented with an artifact multiple choice. Pick the combination that suits you best and avoid getting artifacts that occupy the same slot(head, boots etc) or are restricted to your class. The Fan Manual is your friend, refer to the artifact section!



RULES

- The Tears & Blood cup will have all players fight everyone from their group. Top 2 from each group move on to the next phase.

- The first phase will last 2 weeks but I may extend it to 3 weeks if there are any issues.

- The tournament will be elimination style. You only have one game, if you lose you are out while the victor moves to the next round.

- Each round lasts one week, if you do not play your game during that time you are disqualified. If you want a couple of extra days because something important happened to you, I should be informed.

- Once a game is over both players should report their victory or loss. Posting a synopsis of the battle would be appreciated, likewise it would be great if you would record your duels as shown here.

- This tourney is monthly. At the end of the season the highest ranked players will face off in the finals. Quality points() will be awarded for regular participation(if you play for a maximum of x tourneys) but also for reaching the finals.

- End for autosave right before the battle, you do not want to restart due to a disconnection.

- In case of disconnection repeat the battle with same placement but you may change your actions as luck and morale will NOT be the same! If you do not want to play it again, record it and show me the replay, my experience might give me an idea of who would win. If the game is too long to repeat, you may also decide it in a short, fast paced matchup(blood vs blood).

- Do not abuse bugs. For instance pit lord is not supposed to be frenzied or puppeted. If you can do something while the description says otherwise, it means you are abusing a bug.

- Do not use ULTIMATE ABILITIES! (armageddon, might over magic, sacrifice, twin fangs etc)

- For balance purposes, do not use the following Hero Specials: Paragon of Vigour(+25hp to kensei), Shield to the Bloodless(+10 might/magic def to vampires), Orc Warrior Master(+7hp to crushers) and Tormentor Master(Increases the area of Retractable Spikes and Exploding Spikes to 5x5).

- Place the Seraph Mod in the game directory. It fixes the faulty resurrection of the celestial and tweaks mass agony damage.






Here is a list of the known bugs so that you know what to avoid. I have highlighted the bugged units/abilities so that you can spot easier what you are looking for.


KNOWN BUGS/ISSUES

-  Activated abilities(marksman multishot, all around slash, no return etc) do not trigger effects as Pressed Attack and ignore bonuses from others like Heroic Charge etc.
- Glories attacking a vampire that is out of time will not return.
- Frozen Ground is visible to the enemy player.
- Triggering Vampire Lord's Out of Time dispels Ferocious Wound, the freeze effect of Ice Bolt and causes Bound by Death to heal it again.
-  Spirit Link transfers buffs FROM Mizu Kami TO the recipient, instead of working both ways. Sometimes it does not work at all.
- Mobile shooters can have full movement on morale turn if they shoot first and move later.
- Pit Lord's retal triggers even against out of time and guardian angel. in the first time it ignores out of time, in the second it does not harm the protected unit though it will hurt all other units who attacked the pit lord previously.
- Blizzard cannot be cast over obstacles or acid cloud.
- Obstacle spells cannot be cast over Mist Trail.
- Not a bug but be warned that intimidation, taunt and life drain do not affect the undead.
- Heroism and Heroic Charge does not work on Demented and Undead.
- Griffins will got get a morale bonus action if they dive.
- Stoneskin does not work on Ravagers.
- Necromancy IV will distribute its healing power even to dead units that are covered and cannot be raised. This results in less units brought back from those that can be raised.
- If you wait, the init/dmg bonus from the Samurai/Monk classes might be lost.
- Trail of Mist only works for sanctuary units, not summoned elementals.
- The Crusher's second attack(assault) will deal full dmg instead of half if you get morale.
- Water elemental icebolt does not cause freeze.
- Like morale actions, activated abilities that do not consume a turn(sun steed, out of time will trigger ongoing spells and reduce their duration by 1. For instance sun steed can trigger agony or regeneration.
- Guardian angel will be lost if the protected unit gets morale. If you want it to last till the next turn you should cast it right before its second(morale) move.
- Bloodrage might show incorrect initiative order on the beginning of a turn. Keep track of the initiative of individual units!
- Storm arrows may give extra air damage to shooters but it will not apply Daze on an opponent.
- Storm arrows also works on shooters' melee attacks.
- Similarly, Storm Winds reduces a shooter's melee attack.
- Skeletal spearmen web effect dispels effects that boost speed.


EXPLOITS TO AVOID

The following bug abuses are not fair and should be avoided. If you use any of them and your opponent reports you, you will be disqualified.

- Pit lords are not immune to Puppet master/frenzy as they should.
- If you wait after Cleave triggers, you get an extra move. Do not wait after cleave!
- Grounded may prevent a griffin's flying but it will not prevent a dive. Do not dive with a grounded griffin.

I imagine I should be able to manage an hour and a half every week. Even if I can't, worst that happens is I get disqualified. So I'll try participating. Uplay name is nidoa2006. No it doesn't mean anything.

I'd also like to mention that I should be recording duels with Elvin tomorrow, which should be coming out in the beginning of the next week (still before the tournament). So if the workings of the map sound mysterious, you can always check those out and see how it's done, kinda like a tutorial I guess (I already have duels out, but not with the most recent map). Just thought I'd throw that out there. But you can probably figure the map out on your own.

It seems like there are a few possibilities to abuse the game, so maybe it would be good to implement them in the quest log? (like in HV Arena where you have the list of XP granted for the artifacts on the sacrificial altar)

We already have(almost all skill changes were our suggestions) but cases like inferno might tears would need code work to change into something more useful and that's not going to happen anytime soon, if at all. Also there won't be another patch before the addon, that I know of at least.

Back when still designing the map, I had found the random minor/major/relic artifact function to be faulty as relics could appear everywhere randomly. I believe I now know the source of the bug and how I could bypass it. If my guess is correct, would you rather I keep the 4 artifact merchants with 40k gold or have the 3 areas with random artifacts return?

The artifact merchants system is not without flaws:

- Non combat artifacts appear.
- Artifacts from a set will never appear.
- With the possibility of scrolls, might heroes may end up with very good lvl 3 spells which works against the balance.
- Similarly, scrolls will give magic heroes spells they can cast for free, without cooldown or school restrictions.
- Just as it is possible to have a more well-rounded artifact choice, you may also greatly boost a specific stat such as magic power.


On the other hand the random artifact areas..

- Can have a better artifact variety.
- May offer a number of useless artifacts for your faction but that's why there are 3 areas to choose from.
- But at least you can now tell whether they have a might or magic restriction or whether they are from a set.
- Not all players know artifacts by name.
- It will be harder to greatly increase a specific stat, which is a source of imbalance.
- This system can avoid scroll imbalances even if a few scrolls are included.
- All artifacts will be combat related and there is an option to ban specific artifacts.


It's up to you, what do you think?

Well, in Heroes V Arena the 3 artifact polls aren't perfect too, but I think it's far better solution than merchants.

I have a better idea that I started working on the other day. Instead of 3 areas with 4 minor, 2 major and 1 relic, I introduced a series of connected areas with a choice for each artifact level. Now you have to choose one of the 3 minor areas before moving on to the 3 major and then the 3 relic areas. To bypass the numerous might/magic/faction restrictions I decided to split the artifacts further so that you have more control in what you get. When choosing the major artifacts, you first pick one of the 3 portals that contains the first major and then another 3 portals that contain the second major. The odds are that of the two majors, both will be useful instead of any being restricted to your class.

That doesn't just solve might/magic/faction restrictions, it also allows you to evade having 2 chest pieces etc., which by the same way makes you look at an artifact and gamble on whether you'll get better for that slot later or not. At least if you do get better than what you got, you can choose something else, not as good as that other chest piece, but it + a lesser chest piece is better.

Note to participants : I suggest you take something to pass time, because without sim turns you're most likely going to wait 5-10 minutes for the other guy's turn. On that note, it would greatly help/be very appreciated if you could somewhat somehow decide in advance what you want to do with your hero and army, or at least know the grand scheme of it, so that the only choices you really have to think about during your turn are the artifact choices.
