right now I am trying to build up a friendship leading to a date with a girl and keeping one as back up, sort of. I could tell you their names but I don't want to give names until the mission is accomplished.

Well a couple of good looking girls I know often have had a guy as a back up, who they usually have wrapped around their finger. And who they will choose if it fails with the one they want. Of course the guy never knows that.

A friend of mine told me a story about some dude who had a girlfriend that he caught cheating on him on the second day of their relationship. The guy was so devastated that he started taking drugs like crazy. In the end he managed to overcome that and he is now on a treatment.
I really don't want to have a girlfriend like that. I pity the man, but it's not like he knew it would happen. The two of them were friends since kindergarten or pre-school; can't recall which, but it doesn't really matter. This proves how not all girls are little angels that need your love. However, all of them claim to be good and honest, and that they would never cheat on their boyfriends.

Somehow this reminded me of a girl who said her bf was cheating her by watching porn. I had a nice rum-coke drink that went to waste because I spilled it on the table after hearing that. Because if that is being the case, I am a big cheater

It's one of those things that happen after you don't need them anymore. The moment you're confident in yourself insofar that you don't yearn for someone else to complete, you'll be able to find someone who can add something to your existence.
Happened to me. I was quite a pathetic young man, a lifetime ago, but I just realised how charming, clever and devilishly handsome I was and entered in a relationship.
Also, keeping a woman as "back-up" is quite sociopathic.

I would call it sociopathic, because it makes it seem as if you're looking at women as some sort of... Thing you're supposed to have, a trophy, a thing to give value to you. And it's not like he's torn between two people he both likes. He's like: "Got mah back-up plan."
Also, even if you consider it normal to think like this, that doesn't make it any healthier for you.

Weird that you make it sound like a chauvinistic thing, when I only know girls that have done so in the past
I never said it was normal dude, but I think socipathic is a tad harsh evaluation when you don't know all the information anyways.
