Explosions at the Boston Marathon & Other Places

Two explosions went off at the Boston Marathon today.

No concrete evidence of anything at this point although I have heard rumors of a third unexploded device.  The timing suggests the explosions were set to detonate when the most people would be finishing the race.  I have heard reports that anywhere from 3 to 12 people are dead with countless others dismembered and otherwise injured.

I hope none of our heroes or there loved ones were involved in the explosion.

Another account from the Boston Herald.

Its sad that people think its ok to kill innocent people to send some political "message." So far no group has stepped forward to say they are responsible so it could be the work of some freak instead of a terrorist group. Here is hoping whatever party or parties are responsible will be brought swiftly to justice.

My prayers go out for all those injured and to the families of those murdered. What a senseless thing to happen at a race.

The first time I've heard about this tragedy at the Boston Marathon was not long after I got up this morning. The more they play the footage of the explosion at the finish line, the sadder I feel, and the harder it has become for me to watch, knowing that an eight-year-old child who was watching his father participate in the marathon had died as a result. There's a far higher number of people who may have lost limbs.

To add to the sadness of it all, a man who ran the marathon to support the families of the victims of the Newtown school shooting may not ever run again.

This brings a dark aura on the world of long-distance running, with the London Marathon soon approaching.

Also, SBS is planning to play "Four Lions", a British comedy about inept Jihadists in which a plan to bomb the London Marathon is a major plot line, on Saturday night. Maybe they won't air it because of what happened in Boston.........

Ugly and sad, yes. Surprisingly, no. France also raised security level after sending soldiers to Mali for something is not its business. Eradicating the extremists over the world is long task (probably impossible) and retaliations are expected, in the only form they can strike and bring terror, terrorist acts.

This is nothing compared to what Americans did to Hiroshima, or what NATO has done to Serbia in 1999, so meh. I call it karma.

Actually, our base instinct is to mate. We have to prove our power by killing and fighting to get a sex partner.

i just call it humanity at work. as long as there are people alive to kill, there will be people trying to kill them. it's our base instinct, to destroy.

how the hell did we manage to build so much then?

Nooby.. One of these days you really need to grow up. If your father was running out there and got dismembered would you say it was karma? Seriously.

You have no idea about who attended at the marathon - both runners and spectators - do you?

You can blame USA of a lot of bad things, but by no means this is karma. You still have to grow up quite a lot.

That statement steams me on so many levels. If you wish to debate Hiroshima I'd be more than happy to make you look silly in an appropriate thread. Also, the idea that when something bad happens to you you had it coming is just stupid. I'll debate that with you in a different thread also, perhaps the religion thread since you invoked karma.

What was done in Boston was the deliberate, willful murder of innocent people most likely by morons who claim they are carrying out the will of Allah. Most Muslims are reasonable people who oppose such hideous actions.

Yes, because these acts were obviously done to end a war that had gone on for entirely too long and that had cost hundreds of thousands of soldiers their lives, and would have created an even higher butchers bill if it had kept going, with likely triple the civilian casualties and almost the complete eradication of a race/ ethnicity.

Oh wait, no, no they really weren't. They were done to blow people up because someone was pissed off. Because that's totally Karmah, right? Seriously Nooby. Seriously.

As for the suspect, I expect that they just brought him in because they were being pressured to do so and profiling is the easiest way to appease people. 2 hours of investigation is inconclusive unless they literally found a bomb and detonator in his backpack/ strapped to his chest.

Of course it has nothing to do with Hiroshima or karma, but your attempt to explain Hiroshima is inviting to another debate, is not just black/white. Is it ok to bomb 1 million innocent people in order to save lives on your side? Who can say which should be the percentage between preserve and destroy?

And in the end, what is the difference between a nuclear and an home-made bomb, when both are thrown for psychological purposes, if this is what you are trying to say?

Someone said "when 1 dies is a tragedy, when 1 million die, is statistics".
