Wow, a heated discussion here. Since I can't buy h4 here right now, let's talk about soccer to kill time.

For the national team, I can give many reasons why China is a good team but I don't think ppl here will agree too much about it. Just like I can't agree that Sweden is a great team. (Well, Sweden is a GOOD team. )

Quote:
Take Liverpool for example...great individual players, some of the best in their positions in the whole premiership BUT i still think they play the most boring football in it..Leicester is also a good "boring" candidate.

Well. Stiven, I personally think that you definitely pick a wrong example. Liverpool is a good team and exciting team. If you think defensive counter is a boring tactic, then how about "always long pass + headers for goal + 9-0-1 all defensive most of the time" ??? Is that exciting ??? Well, maybe we have very different thinking about soccer.

About France now, yes, I agree that it is a GREAT team. But even the greatest team need luck to win WC. Don't tell me that France win Euro 98 totally without luck (pls rewind and see its match vs Italy if you still not agree. ) I think there are something can stop France:
1. Any lucky strong team
2. Argentina (they are strong and definitely know how to win even with some dirty tricks.)

Just my 2 cents.

Huh? I guess its a matter of opinions but to me Liverpool plays the most boring football in the premiership. As far as the players i agree with you, they have some really good players but they still play very boring. As for the quotes you have taken them out of the big picture, if you read my posts youll find out that im not into that kind of football. I prefer to watch football with fast pace and lots of short passes. Creativity that opens up the opponents defence, if you want to know more about it just look at a Newcastle game I think ive said all those quotes about the norwegian team and if you decided to read my posts instead of just picking a few words from it you would reckon that i really dont like the way the norwegian team plays football. But if you like that way that Norway plays then i guess your right, maybe we have a very different thinking about football.

I just learned that Lappin Kulta is a finnish beer. So hats of for them, they make the 2.nd best beer in the world and they have an interesting football team coming up too.

Oh, Stiven, I guess you get me wrong. For me, the most boring tactic is "long passes + headers" just like Norway. Wimbledon is also a good example of this boring style, they foul a lot as well.

I'm just very curious that on the one hand you say you like "short-passes, fast pace, creativity in midfield...." but you say Liverpool is the most boring team ???? Just can't understand your reasoning. I'm sorry but I really can't find the reason why Newcastle is more exciting than Liverpool. Maybe it's just personal taste.

Anyway, it's very difficult to be objective in talking about soccer. I agree with some of your points but for the Liverpool part, I certainly disagree with you.

But to me it doesnt matter who wins really, just to see all those really fun football games is a reward. To bad the tournament only lasts for a month

You can say that again!  Too bad I may miss some of the day matches (live).  In a sense, perhaps it's still better for W-cup to be held over in Europe; yes, I will have to sacrifice my sleeping time for a month then, but at least I get to see most of the matches.

To RobinHood:

Pardon me, I'm presently living in Japan, but I'm not a Japanese.  Anyway, I'm still one of the supporter of the Japanese team.  The manager (an Italian) is indeed being treated something like a God over here.  Well, to be fair, the Japanese team has really seen great improvement since he became the manager.  However, I would not like to give that much credit to him alone.  I think the Japanese players have worked hard (as always) over the years for such improvement too.  It's good to see Asians are also beginning to improve in and contribute more to soccer.  Perhaps the chinese team would show some significant improvement soon too (looking at Thunderknight )  The Japanese team is rather strong in defence, but I think still a lot to be improved in scoring.  They played well in the match against Poland, but I wonder how many polish "main players" actually played in that match?  I truly believe they would fair well in this W-cup though.

Oh yes, and thanks for telling me something about the French team.  Less than 2 more months to W-cup!

Hey Snogard. Talk us a little about you. What is your nationality ? Will you be in Japan during WC or back to home.

It think you forgot that the japan manager was french : that is Philippe Troussier. That’s why I wanted your advice. It doesn’t matter. I have my answer.

Here there a specialist of Argentina here ? If someone could tell me if Mauricio Pochettino will be in WC... Thanks.

(Sorry I forgot Claude Makélélé (Real Madrid) in the French team.

This evening : Bayern München - Real Madrid  Tossers always loose. Let's talk at the end of the match. FC BAYERN forever.

Hey ! What do you think about the results of the Champion’s League ? The victory of Manchester and München ? The behaviour of Tristan against Beckham ? You can also give your prognostication for the matchs of wensday.

Personnaly, I’m very happy for the victory of Manchester & München. I hope they will meet again in the semi-finals. It’s not sure but it’s in a good way. Damn ! If only Effenberg scores his penalty... Arghhh.  The Bayern should have been qualified. Real are the tosser of the day   as I predicted.

My forecast for wensday matchs :

Liverpool – Leverkusen 1 – 1
Panatinaďkos – Barcelona 1 - 2

Wendsday matches

Liverpool 3-1 Leverkusen
Sorry but Liverpool is great =and i think they'll just stomp Leverkusen.

Phanatinaikos 1-3 Barcelona. Barcelona is a team of a different caliber. They have superb World Class players and that's that.

Err ... how about my real name is Figo and I'm from Portugal, now in Japan getting prepared for the W-Cup?
Ooops, I forgot, Portuguese team should be in Korea, not Japan...

Well, actually I'm from Singapore, a tiny little country in South-eastern Asia (now you know why I'm quite supportive of the Asian teams) and am presently working in Japan.  I should still be in Japan during the W-Cup (nothing can be sure except Death and Tax though ), but darn, tried as I might, still I didn't get the ticket to a single match.
So is any of you coming to Japan for the matches?

I'm terribly sorry, I've made a mistake.  Well, I suppose you know more about him then me.

Looking forward to see France playing Argentina.

Yeah ! Bayern is the best team. Don't forget they ARE the Europe Champions. And they will stay. Liverpool is a tiny team, but the powerfull Bayern will never let them go.

I hope that after Real, they will beat Manchester and there Panatinaikos in the final ! LOL

Can I just say...

That my observations about the English team being 'Beckham-centric' appear to be correct, as with his recent injury 'crisis' (I use the word loosely), suddenly the English team's chances have been thrown into jepordy.

Is it wise to attach this much importance to one player?  I don't think so.  My favourite players are always those who work well as part of a team (I hate to say this, but look at Shearer)... that, I think, is good football.

Hehe yes, Michael Owen still plays for liverpool. And anyone that calls Liverpool for a "tiny" club cant know much about football at all.

...That must be the wisest words from you so far Catherine . Couldnt agree with you more tho, off course players like Figo, Zidane and Ronaldo are really fun to watch, they can do that "little extra" with the ball. But i like the hard working teamplayers better, thats whats football is all about to me. Motivation always beats class.

Liverpool IS a tiny club compared to Bayern München.

“Motivation always beats class.” Nice sentence !

I agree. And when efficiency and class can be together, you get a great match !!! Class is a plus. It’s the case of Figo, Zidane & several others.

lol Liverpool is one of the most massive clubs there is.

Football sucks btw, thats how i feel now. Newcastle only got a draw vs Fulham at home and now Champions League next year doesnt seem so sure anymore. But they didnt deserve anymore from the game either, they played really bad. Had a few oppurtunitys and should have gotten a penalty in the dying minutes but referee didnt have the balls to make that call.

But then again, ask me tomorrow and ill say that football is one of the best things there is so...bah i hate when the results doesnt go "my" way. A win there and i could have bet almost anything that newcastle would make it too CL. grrr football can be so unfair.

Ok yesterday my team(who TheBlackDragon is on too)played a match and here there were two umm situations which i'd like to get someone elses oppnion on.
Well this game I played Center Forward(I too a break from my usual goalie spot. they put the back up in who ended up causing us the gam..long story)well let me continue. The first situation is: I get a pass to the right side. I run past a defender and end up one-on-one with the last man. I get the ball past him easily and i' about to make the move myslef(The ball is 7 incehs infront of me) and i see the guy fo for a slide tackel so i jumo up to dodge his feet when he raises his leg and strkies me in the knee. The foul is called, but there is no foul. Personaly i think this is a proffesional foul, since i was past him, adn should deserve a red card.
And the second scenarion. Again i'm one-on-one with the last defender when i'm in the middle of a move when he bodychecks me, strking me in the ribs with his elbow. Also this was a fould, but again no card. I think(and i'm a certified referee) that this should deserve a yellow card.
But i'm trying to get someone elses oppnion. So is my judgement right or not?
