Plus, it will get more difficult introducing new factions into DoC, as each faction needs to have the same number of cards, and this is ever increasing as existing factions grow...so would need alot of cards.

Although not sure if Base set 2 would include new faction.

Eh, DD I'd already posted that in my first post about reddit Q&A.

About second set, this is what I've read on our facebook page.

There will be new format, Legacy. Legacy format means that we will play both sets, first set with all of the expansions and second set, while JP and Swiss will be played with second set and last few expansions or new expansions after the second base set. This is speculation about which expansion goes with which base set, but these new formats are definitely something that they talk about.

This is absolutely needed, because Metagame will be constantly changing unlike now where even with new (useful)cards per expansion, Metagame stays the same(Last 2-3 expansions are dominated by Cassandra, Ishuma, Dhamiria, Sandalphon, Kelthor etc.) and the game is becoming stale.

Yes, even though I am not 100% sure that they will do exactly as I stated, it will be something close to that. At least that is what VampFury said.

He also said that there are two ways of doing this:
First one is like in Magic The Gathering, and that is with all that Legacy stuff I've stated in my previous post.

Second one is like in Yu-gi-oh, where there are no restrictions at all except for some cards that may cause the balance problems and they are constantly switching those cards with every new expansion/set.

I agree with him that first way is a lot better, and it seems that they are taking that route instead of the second one since there are no card restrictions at all whatsoever.

Hmmm are we sure about different game modes, or just simply base set 1 for duels, and base set 2 for swiss/JP's?

What we are sure is that they are making new game modes, but we are not sure exactly how they will do it.

What I've said was mostly a speculation that makes the most sense by VampFury and LQDBrunt from the thread that they had red.

my journey so far...

alright... i have once gain reached a plateau of not really wanting to grind any further.

I have the cards to play the top meta decks, but quite honestly - i am just a little bored at the moment, bored of seeing the same decks dominate, no new strategies, just carbon copies.

I have attempted to build a hakeem mill control deck with relative success, but not competitve against the top decks, fun yes but to a point.

so, where to from here...?

Waiting for new base set that will change a lot I guess.

I've stopped playing DoC for now, a bit bored, same as you. Playing Hearthstone currently, and even though it is inferior game in my opinion(both gameplay and balance wise), it is super fun, and has something that is really needed in DoC, and that is Draft/Arena, and because of it, you constantly see different decks in Arena.

i think that cards are far to easy to obtain, part of the challenge in the times of void, was that you could not obtain sought after cards easily, i got my first DA on lvl 97, this made me think creatively on how to build decks and play. wildcards have destroyed that completely.

i do appreciate that top players are posting their decks, for younger players to learn, however this for me has also taken away the *unlocking* or creating your own deck vibe from the game, someone posts the latest flavour on mmdocking, everyone plays it - carbon copy rubbish.

i have been watching heathstone stream via enclase - at least for now because it is new, there doesn't seem to be a std stock carbon copy deck that everyone is playing to succeed.

I don't believe playing someone elses deck is fulfilling in any way... capital FULLSTOP!

It is not just because it is new, but also there are a lot of cards with the same cost that do different things, and you won't see one just be straight up better than the other and that is the reason why you see a lot of variations even among the decks with same playstyle.

And I hear you about the same decks in DoC. That is the reason why I stopped playing. Even if I can make a lot of different decks and try them out, I feel like I am playing against 5-6 players that have one deck each, literally. Almost no variations in decks and if there are, those variations are so minimal that you can't feel the difference at all.

@Emp: Maybe the new game modes will make it more exciting. My understanding is that you won't be able to play the decks in the current meta. Cards belonging to the different base sets can't be mixed in the same deck.

Eg.

Base set 1 = base set 1, void rising, herald of void
Base set 2 = forgotten wars, five towers, base set 2

Or something like that.

So we won't see the common Ishumas, Spelthors anymore, because they can't use all the cards at once anymore (so base set 1 Ishuma :  no ambush creatures, spelthor : lightning strike, sahaar brute, base set 2 can use them, but then they can't use base set 1 cards...)

Depends on the playstyle you like. My current favourites are Sandalphon 4/4/2, Ishuma 5/2/1, Xorm 5/1/1, Cassandra rush lock 4/1/4, Hakeem mill 3/4/4, Kelthor 4/4/1, Dhamiria control 6/4/3, Zardoc 4/1/4.. My favourite heroes/decks change in every meta so this may not mean much to you There was a time I loved Nergal 4/3/1, Seria 6/1/4, Crag 4/1/2, Zardoc 5/4/1, Kieran 3/6/1 or Morgan 3/4/2 for instance.

Every faction has different ways to be played whether rush, control, aggro or whatever. But this will only matter from the point you get the right cards/heroes. In the beginning you just have to make do with what you have and if you keep playing you will eventually get to play decks you have been planning to make. So whether Acamas, Kelthor, Garant or Xorm, it is better to find a hero and stick with him till you get stronger and open more packs. Reason I recommend those heroes is because they have fast paced games which is fun but also helps you level up faster.

I wouldn't spend seals on a base box because you can buy reinforcement packs with gold. Better to keep your seals for what gold cannot buy, like newer addon packs or deals like that Acamas. Also do not count on getting the heroes you want from heroic packs, I think I only got Siegfried long after I stopped counting. Must have taken a month or two. Same goes for normal cards, even if they are just common. I spent over 4 months without getting my 2 missing chaos lacerators and they were just uncommon. That's why you should get something dependable and stick with it for now.

In a duel, it is often SO important how it starts out and the first player to go with 1 resource is generally disadvantaged by this. I mean if people had a choice, they would choose to go second all the time!

It might be more fair to make each player have 1 resource to start with?

I know we have talked about this before, and that there was suggested a curve of resource incrimenting each turn....but just thinking...

Heathstone gets around this - each player does start on 1 res, so no gain res for 2nd player - they have also introduced the coin card which can temp raise the res bar.

Heathstone gets around this - each player does start on 1 res, so no gain res for 2nd player - they have also introduced the coin card which can temp raise the res bar.

But in HS the second player start with card advantage which is big, and many players argue about the coin being broken since it sets up a lot of combos.

I don't know, it really depends what type of decks you are playing in DoC. With my Crag, I actually liked quite a lot when I start first and get DA + 2-3 Serpent Flies.

Imagine starting second with Crag, and dropping TWO DA's on the board!

Anyway, starting first with rush factions without a 1 drop always puts you on the back seat...notwithstanding having a bad hand with like 3 cost cards or more...I wish there was less randomness with mulligan, like you at least get to choose 1 card to have in your starting hand...

HS is for kids though, especially the shiny colourful graphics...kids will be like "aaah, cool check that yu-gi-oh explosion!"

VS Dharmia. She has 8 hp left. Senses doom as I have Ancient and Surging Titan fielded. So she champ blocks a bit more. Looks up on my Miranda. Sees the air swirling around her hands. Thinks hard about Song of the Lost Decides to make sure she survives. ALMOST drops Stone Shield, but in the last moment senses Miranda's mastery of primordial magic and drops Shadow Altar instead. My turn - void ripple, song of the lost, and its all over..

That is matter of taste. Why is it for kids? Because of the artwork? If you ever played WoW/Warcraft you would know that it is that kind of the universe and every artwork in that universe is close to that.

I like both DoC and HS, and I must say DoC is more balanced and has better graphics but I am really tired of seeing the same decks all over again. The Metagame didn't change at all in the past 3 expansions, literally... where Meta is changing with every patch in HS.

If they do what we were speculating(about the Legacy Mod and the Draft etc.), DoC would go the long way. I am waiting for that to happen, because Arena(draft) is the only thing that I like more in HS than in DoC and it is super fun.
