Hello Im new here and had a couple questions. I have installed HOTA and love it. How do I delete a game I have already played. It used to be you could click on the game you wanted to delete and then hit the delete button. But for some reason I cant do that anymore, I have to go to the heroes folder to delete it now. Also I have tried to play online and every couple minutes a screen pops up saying reconnecting to server. Is that normal or is that something that I need to fix on my end. Thankyou

Please, leave Scholar like it is, it works perfectly and you can teach Town Portal, so the heroes can visit the towns with level 5 spells for almost no movement. Abolish Eagle Eye if you want but don't mess with Scholar, it works!

Well, there already is an object that lets you teleport into a city - and your scenario is extremly limited, namely you need 3 things:
- Town Portal, learned somewhere
- A Hero with advanced Wisdom (at least).
- several towns.

All in all, it gives next to no upside in the beginning and even in the late game, you need a map centered around it to be useful. Some maps have the Town Portal Map Object, in which case you would have the possibility to teleport to the town with the Town Portal Spell, as well as the ability to reroll spells. All in all, I don't quite see the advantages you describe. Maybe on a side-hero, that travels around the main, until he picks up a Pandoras Box containing the spell? Otherwise, to even meet the Main Hero, that one would have to town gate, which often looses a lot of 'progress'.
Yes, it is not absolutely useless, but the possibility is extremly slim. With the addition, it could at least be used to gear up inexperienced heros, giving them acess to spells which they learn even without needing to level up before. Meaning, that you can recruit a hero, teach him the spells of your main Hero, and get him going, allowing him to not to return to learn all the spells.

To begin with, I wouldn't want to abolish it. I just don't like these three skills the least, hence I don't even want to be offered (especially since they are mostly 'magic' abilities, weakening a spellcaster hero even further)

Ok lets look at it like this. Can you learn anything great from your teacher if you have no wisdom at all? No. Then that means scholar should stay the way it is except for one thing - 5th lvl spells should be exchangable too. That's my view on this.

Nah, I interpret it differently: You need wisdom to comprehend the working of these enigmatic spells, but a scholar can explain it to you more clearly, since he researched the workings of it

Just imagine it: You need to have wisdom to comprehend the gravity by watching an apple fall, but if you have a teacher, he can explain it to you cleary

@Nordos You didn't got my point, if Scholar can teach Town Portal your other heroes can visit the towns to learn the level 5, everything else is teachable. That's it.

Yes, but where would you use a skill slot? Your main Hero - why would you even do that. Your secondary hero? Well, thats possible, to have one simply to relay spells to other heroes, but.... At this point, if you can reach your other heroes anyway, they could simply go back to town themselves, right?
To begin with, it is merely used as a one-time thing. Once you relay the town portal, you are unlikely to create another hero needing it, or even if you do, you probably do so that he can gain access to Town Portal easily. Otherwise, you can also use a portable Artefact (like Tome of Earth Magic) to fulfill this role as well.

What I mean with 'no wisdom' requirement would be the inital learning process (as in, you only need to meet the hero, instead of waiting him to be a suitably level). To cast these spells, they would need wisdom, but once they reach the appropiated wisdom level, they can access their learned spells. Well, that would be how I would envision if, it is a different story whetever that is possible to accomplish.

Obviously Scholar is very useful. The difference in getting slow on day 1 and lets say day 4 is crucial. Scholar heroes are very useful. Obviously not as main heroes, but it is very handy supporting skill.

Scholar is also much more useful if you disable that extremely stupid and overpowered Town Portal.
Scholar is fine, now Eagle Eye on the other hand...

Town portal is a friendly tool to avoid huge and tedious hero chains. Your main hero can go instantly at any town on a medium/large map just by fleeing a battle, recruit, then bring all army with prepared chain. So in order to get what you want, you would need also to make heroes not available once they flee, or prohibit transferring armies. You really don't like this game and want another heroes.

Well no Heroes game is perfect, but Heroes 3 is my favorite Heroes game and in fact favorite game of all time. But I'm always searching for ways to improve the game.
Try to think for a moment the difference between basic and advanced Town Portal, if you play this game and don't get Earth Magic, you might have a huge problem. Slow, Town Portal and Resurrection are simply too powerful. And the player that learns advanced Earth Magic and Town Portal first gets a huge advantage. Same as Air Magic and Fly and Dimension Door, that's just how it is. If all spells are allowed (and in their original state) only a fool would not choose Earth and Air Magic, but would scratch his head about Water and Fire Magic.

I have a question regarding the HotA features - can these be integrated in the original game as well?
I especially mean things like 'using g to shoot a hex', 'combat movement speed 4' and similar, QoL changes. I recently started the SoD campaign again and I was shocked how slow the combat actually is....
Some other changes, like complete spell descriptions, acurately numbers of enemies and similar would be appreciated as well.

I guess to change these things, the exe would have to be hacked? Or is there a dll that does all these?

Otherwise, is there a possibility of changing the scenarios (campaigns) to the Vanilla ones to play in HotA itself, if my request would be too bothersome?

you can start a campaign in SoD, save it, then load it in HotA. i think that will take care of all the improvements you described.

regarding scholar - it is perfectly good as it is, and it's a very useful skill for a scout, and you could even consider choosing it on your main. for example, having a scholar day 111 in games such as jebus cross is awesome, as you can keep him/her in the garrison while recruiting other heroes to scout the map. each time you recruit a hero, the scholar will learn and teach spells. at the end of the day, all your heroes will have a handful of spells without ever needing to buy a mage guild.

Nope, only those coming with a book so that means about 1-2 spells max at the end of the day.

The best way would be to make Town Portal have a limited range. Larger than Dimension Door at the same skill level, but smaller than it is now. I feel both spells should scale with range as it is.

That way, you can use Town Portal to collect your entire army, but it'd be a multi-day excercise.

Maybe limiting the amount you can cast Town Portal to 1 each turn? This way you can't simply use it to amass your complete army by porting to 4 different towns in a single turn.

Another suggestion would be to have a demerit after using TP - for example reducing your stats by 25% (of the original value) until your next turn. That would also limit the ability to defend your towns, making it more necessary to plan ahead.

EDIT: Or reducing the knowlegde to 0 until the next turn, meaning, you can't regenerate mana for one turn.

Sadly this fix seems to be unable to be used for additional scenarios: After I completed the first one (in this case I was playing the original Erathia one), I crash with the HotA.exe when entering the scenario select screen. So I thought about using the normal exe to load the save - but it doesn't appear. I guess that was done on purpose to prevent people from using HotA games with the original exe, crashing the game?

Did you try to extract SoD campaigns and play as custom campaigns?

Hi everybody, Im new on this forum and have been reading this thread since like a month ago (there is a lot to read but there are so many interesting topics and thoughts that i cant stop).

I joined because I wanna say how thankful I am to the HotA team for all their amazing work, i truly love this mod (expansion), it's such a great experience!

And while am it I would like to report something weird. Today I was playing with Cove and my pirates (who have 4 shoots) made 2 shots to some neutral harpies, the harpies hitted them and suddenly the pirates had 0 shots left and had to go melee (I'm pretty sure i made only 2 shots). I've been playing H3 since it's release (intermitently) but I don't remember seeing this ever happen. Is that a bug or I'm missing something?

Very much thanks!
