@jtb
I didn't personally know the Automaton dwelling was confirmed earlier, so as that is covered, I believe your analysis is spot-on. However, if that building guarded by the Engineers is indeed Mechanic a dwelling, I must say that really went through a massive change, as the old town screen actually had the dwelling revealed back then. It is more than likely that it was the building which gets visited by the mining cart. A similar building can be found among the Forge files.
I also think the Saloon got replaced and the tower-like building is indeed the dwelling for Gunslinger. It's pretty hard to see how such structure would be a house for any industrial creature.
It seems that the Armadillo dwelling is missing, but I've a hunch that it's the fencing building in the old town screen. It appears the rest of the non-human, non-mechanic creatures are "caged" in a way or another, so I don't think it will be any different for the Armadillos.

@Hourglass
This is what I suspect as well when it comes to the Armadillo dwelling, but since the Mechanic dwelling has been changed drasticly and the Saloon got straight up replaced I am not sure how much left off of that farm-like building either, that's why I skipped to showcase it. (Almost like the Couatl dwelling, but whereas the Serpentarium has already been confirmed to be the Couatl dwelling we have not had any sorts of confirmations or even hints about the Armadillo dwelling.)
In the meantime I took a closer look to the town screen and I realised that I got that shadow on the castle walls wrong.
The rocks on the unit portraits in the background are quite identical to the ones below (even the clouds too):
So the shadow on the walls must be something else, and the dwelling is on the other side in the back, but I continue to think it is the Juggernaut dwelling. It does look similar to the Mechanic dwelling, but I think as it is in the back and taking its relative size to account for me it seems like it is a much bigger building and as such rather too big for a tier 2 unit.
Hopefully we have not got to wait too long to find out though

Btw, if Todd's starting army is what can be seen on the screen (which - based on the numbers - is possible) he might be a Ballista specialist. Less likely a Cannon or First Aid specialist.
This is something I've noticed, too. Not sure if you've noticed, but it seems the player in the image is lacking all resources - except for 5 crystals. If that part isn't staged, then it's safe to assume the screenshot is literally from the very start of the game which is set on impossible difficulty with a resource bonus. That further proofs the concept of Todd being a war machine specialist. However, I doubt the Ballista part, I would even say it's the least likely scenario. It's obviously possible they changed things up, but traditionally the Ballista has been given to might classes, and First aid tent for magic classes. Todd is an artificer, Factory's mage class. It's also possible that he is an Ammo cart specialist, and since we know Cove and Factory are connected, the Cannon is not out of the picture.

For me, Sam seems to be the Mechanic specialist and Murdock to be the Gunslinger specialist.
Not sure about Murdock, but Sam was confirmed as Mechanic specialist long time ago. This bit of info haven't reached the guys writing the wiki, so the are some inaccuraties in the factory article.
About the pictures, you're exactly right, the mysterious smoking building has to be to the left side of the castle. For me it does look very similar than the expected mechanic dwelling. Could it also be it's upgrade, which would explain why they don't look exactly the same?

Good work with Factory, and I think it was a good choice to take a step away from the wild west theme.

I don't really see how it's different than before. It's still something like a desert faction, but instead of using the default Desert terrain, they developed an entirely new Wasteland terrain instead. What I never liked about the Wasteland terrain is that it has this dull orange that doesn't even look realistic, it doesn't look like this is on the surface, it actually looks like it's underground, like the battle screens when you are in the Subterranean terrain or the Dungeon town battle screen.
So whether it's Wild West or Not-Wild-West, it still looks the same to me. Even the town screens of Factory show the terrain to be much more brightly lit, but on the adventure map it looks dull and dark and nothing like the town screen.

I personally like the orange colour as it gives a bit of contrast to the map and it's a nice nod to the iconic terrain from Heroes 2.

That's the part I don't get. Why reintroduce terrain from HoMM2 in the first place? And if it was imperative to reintroduce an old terrain type rather than developing a new one, why not develop it in the art style of HoMM3? Because as it currently looks, it indeed looks like they ported the ground texture straight from HoMM2.

Yes, I have also noted that the "desert terrain" has too high contrast and saturation compared to H3 usual art style. It should be a tad brighter and less saturated to fit with the rest. Curiously, even the mountains of the mod and the town platform that go with the terrain seem brighter and less saturated, when compared to the ground.
I also think this is a sort of "homage" to Starcraft desert terrain, maybe?
https://liquipedia.net/starcraft/File:Gold_Rush_8.jpg
It also has oil lakes, skeletons and wild west-looking stuff. 8as far as I can tell none of that was in H2)
***
I like that "some" of the Wild West is removed by this is a small proportion to the total.
Every year it becomes more ironic that some Russians are developing essentially "American cowboy" town.

I personally think Wasteland terrain is gorgeous. It and Highlands are both absolute feasts, and I have to stop myself from using them in every map I make.
It's also not really an unrealistic colour.
Sure, it's a little more cartoony than real life, but HoMM 3 has never exactly been a hyper-realistic game.

Thank you so much HotA crew for you dedication, thank you Docent Picolan, R.I.P.
Couldn't play so far but read the changelog. Airships, sounds rad.
New and redone graphics galore, lots of SoD bug fixes, some neat gifts for mapmakers and original sounds for Cove, yay.
Hit-n-run ban sounds controversial, I'm glad Luna got nerfed a bit.
I'm eager to give Factory a spin.

Both Hota Terrains are my top 2 favourite terrains in the game as well, so pretty. Seems like the Hota Crew is copying the originals and trying to pull back more towards Homm2 which I love. (Homm team did it with Fairy dragons and enchanters and Conflux in general)
Also Thank you so much HotA team and Happy New Year!
