There is no reason for producer to keep finished game from releasing. So there is only early access version in some indie cases when you basicly pay to play unfinished game and then at release you get vanilla version. Big game companies don't use early access.
So when you pre-order game you just ensure that you will get the game the minute its released and show support for game and company.

You'd be surprised. Early Access in the current day and age usually comes with "goodies" (ingame items, achievements, titles, etc...) that you can't get otherwise. There's a huge appeal to many people to acquire that Early Access and all of those "goodies" and play it the second the gates open, rather than to have to wait in queue for weeks to come to get in but at lower price and find the "goody booth" empty.

For instance, EA/BioWare did something like that recently when they released the Galatic Strongholds expansion for Star Wars: the Old Republic. Subscribers got access in august to those Strongholds, Preferred Accounts (people who recently spent real life money ingame but have an otherwise free account) got it like last week or so and free accounts (people who didn't spend a dime on the game) get it in october. I'm pretty sure people were drawn to either subscribe or spend money in order to get that early access.

That early access was more like demo. You got just quarter of the game and few classes. True early access gives you complete game to play with not just bugless, tested part.
What fascinates me is that people used to be paid to be QC and beta testers and now people actually pay to play unfinished buggy game just to get few cosmetic in game stuff

Exactly. Pay more for an unfinished buggy game? Why? Am I not helping enough with testing and reporting bugs? I think there should be a fairer trade than that.

PR departments are trying to sell beta testing off as a priviliege.

That's counterproductive. People should be encouraged to test the game, not impeded.

No, it's not. Most Beta's get more applications than they need testers. Marketing it as a priviledge makes many want it that more badly.

It sometimes backfire, when irrational testers don't know they're testing a game and believe they're playing the final product.

Ok. Just wanted to make sure if there's more to it, like free content , dlc's... Never pre-ordered before.

Like overlord said, that depends on the version. Often there are collector's editions that offer more stuff but other than that I'm not a fan of preordering. I like to walk to the store when the game is out, get it from the shelf

I'll just purchase a digital copy on Steam with an EZ 3 clicks. Gonna take a look at the offer and then decide.

Or... Uplay?

Since the steam-version likely will need u-play anyhow, why put an extra DRM in 'tween there.

As I have written before - in MM:H7 permament internet connection won't be required. It will be just needed to register the game.

They may want more opinions on hide/not hide percentages before they start a new vote.

I think they'll start the new vote with Igromir, just like they did with Gamescom.

But still, they have a lot to show...
