The game needs a lot of balance. I have played two games on Heroic difficulty - Sylvan and Dungeon.

The thing is I blow up everyone. Nobody can threat or stop me whatsoever. And I can do it with some core units and my hero level 15. Well, Dungeon gameplay needed some elites, but believe it or not, I did not even need any champions to win those games. This is ridiculous. No challenge, no game for me.

found something interesting from the Forge days btw lol

Then concerned parents began to post letters and send e-mail saying they were worried about the violent nature of Forge Town and that it should be pulled from the expansion pack at all costs. While the identity of the parents has yet to be confirmed, several posts by hard-core fans allude to the fact that they may have forged those letters in order to get 3DO's attention. And they were noticed. Because of all the heat the gaming industry has taken in the wake of recent violence in the US and the fact that these fans were the series' biggest fans, Greg and 3DO decided to take Forge Town out of the game. Greg and his development team will now replace Forge Town with an elemental town, which will include the phoenix.

and some of you guys think Sandro Revolution was bad, I don't think we would ever be as dirty and pathetic as that lol

In spite of all flaws, I still find H4 the most entertaining of all, not the one I most like (H2), but the one I most had fun playing (with Equilibris). Changings were welcoming, imho, which I was expecting in this new installment. Instead, they chose to make a cake of patterns from old installments, chose to implement poorly some other stuff, added others which little to no depth, and the game is not surprising at all.

Worst is that they made modding an anticipated feature. That's completely absurd. Unless you are talking about Gary's Mode, what to expect from an expensive game that bring, as a very expected feature, a modding tool? People are already dropping the usual game for the possibility to mod it completely. Is this good? Of course not. A game should sell itself for its capacity to entertain people, to be fun, to be unexpectedly amazing, engaging and the LAST thing someone should desire is modding it. Perhaps for hardcore fans, after the game has some age, you provide modding tools as a bonus, and not as a key feature! It's a shame, really, that you need to provide your game the means not to be the game you are proposing! People are buying to do work for themselves.

Map editor is a part of the game franchise, but modding tools, in spite of its usefulness, shouldn't be needed to make this game sell. It only shows how much it wouldn't stand on its own.

Nah, i think easy modability is indeed an anticipated feature, because devs can never please everybody. So allowing people to easily change stuff is great. Just look at Skyrim, or basically all newer Elderscrolls and Fallout games. A big part of their success comes from their big modding community. What i agree though is that modding should not be a necessity so a broken game can be fixed by fans.

I disagree, modding is a big part of the game, it allows customization and increases game's lifespan. That was a smart move from Limbic actually.

Ah, but there are some limitations to this modding; you can only do it map by map, and not all features. So I'd rather reserve the judgement until the game is released.

Of course it was. Not for truly good reasons though, is it? For games such as Heroes, I would approve buying the game by itself. Modding was never the reason to buy a Heroes game. It became a necessity, and not for good reasons.

About Skyrim and the likes, they are great games standing on their own. It's not that people want to change everything they proposed before the game was even released. And they have even more success with a modding community, it's a complimentary thing, a bonus. Such cannot be said to whatever H7 will come to be. It feels like modding in H7 will be a surviving tool, to crawl upon fans' talent doing another's job.

It depends if the messing with the source code is required for such a breach of limitation...

@Cleglaw compared to your "arguments" mine seem very compelling as at least I could back them up from game(s). Seriously look at your comments/replies and try to stay neutral. You say h5 had skill-system with no identity, yet it's commonly acknowledged as being the best for good part because it precisely has most unique aspects for factions. You use how the state of the game may be in the future, while it's total speculation(h6 could've become good game, yet we know how it ended up being the worst of the series even in the end). You make comparisons to how they are not like in h6 yet without backing how they were in h6 or even how they are different. You didn't actually disclaim anything I said, simply tried to divert it. I seriously can't believe that some people fail to see how much the same the systems ultimately are for a good reason...

Sort of reasonable. Basically h6 had the same thing though. It got pushed to Xmas-market despite the bugs and all(and yes I know it was delayed 2-3 times from original plan as it was supposed to be released over half year before it actually came out). In terms of bugs though h7 is is much better shape(seeing as h6 was total skeleton during the time it's "first" supposed launch-date). I'm confident they will fix most of the bugs in time for launch for h7.

I think at this point you underestimate the impact and the drive of mapmakers. People, who rather then towards the game, look forward to the map editor. They see the new game as a tool whit which they can realize their ideas, and there are lots of them. That is why the Map Editor has always been a huge topic.
You may not see the game as creative base but these people shurely do.
