Welcome to Ashan where dwarves are dwarves, valkyries are dwarves and giants are also dwarves 
I am really rooting for a reshuffling of abilities but I do not have any hopes for them right now. Ubi's release deadlines are notoriously ill-planned so it's safe to assume that those couple of extra months should have been (at least)double or triple that for a smooth release.

Oh the hamster, the hamster... why should it have been a hamster??? Also, i am astounded by the fact that in all heroes games there have been no lions whatsoever. Even in Ashan, i don;t recall a Lion Dutchy or any references to Lions... Could it be that they don;t exist in Ashan?
Apart from the above question though, Lions could easily be associated with fire and thus they could have made a good unit for fortress. Even as simple as this one
it would have made for a nice unit. Not that i don;t like the Rhino, but the Lion would have made more sense.
Also, instead of the "Kobold" they didn't even think about Salamanders, the elemental beasts of fire

To be fair, norse mythology refers to Giants as very big dwarves (or at least, they do not resemble humans anyway. It is stated that they are giant dwarf like creatures) so they are not wrong in their depiction there. And thankfully, Fire Giants have quite the solid appearance at the very least.
On the other hand, dwarves did got born from the maggots eating at the corpse of the giant Ymir...

eh, norse mythology has giants as personifications of untamed nature in any aspect.
not sure why they went for magma elemental when a mechanical boar would've been the perfect choice instead

Because the only faction that creates mechanical beings in Ashan is the Academy.

Well in all honesty i dont know how the original imagery of the norsh dwarves was and i am not sure to whom we owe the little human look they have in recent representations but i will still say thay no matter the source material, i do like the design of the fire giants.

I never have had a problem with the giants appearance, merely their lore.

to be fair, a big fat bearded mountain giant looks like a giant dwarf anyway, as AoM showed us

Maybe because of the Cabir. Or maybe they thought that between Valkyr, Fire Boar and Fire Giant there was too much fire already.

Because you'd have otherwise gotten a dwarven crossbow-woman. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
On an unrelated note, does that lore say anything about bears being dwarves? Just checking..

Looks are one thing. Ashan giants literally ARE dwarves.. Next thing we get ogres that are actually orcs? Vampires that are actually liches? For crying out loud.

What are you talking about? The rats are also dwarfs - dwarfs with a strong sense of wild pleasures, as their lore clearly states (besides them looking like a dwarf with a rat's head on).
