heroes 3's multiplayer is irrelevant. It's played by a bunch of russian speakers that have been playing it for years and will continue to play it for years because they know and are comfortable with the game. It has no bearing on the quality of the game

The formula is solid even after all these years but I expect more from the skill system since H5. Not that H7 delivered in that respect. But UI, combat, adventure map gameplay and visibility, atmosphere, hero specials and creature abilities in H3 more than stand the test of time. H7 hasn't even stood the test of its own development time if we are to be honest here.

How can you be certain that's the truth? Are you a Russian? Have you been in Russia? Have you even experienced Heroes III's multiplayer to know better?
Fairly certain neither of those facts are true, but please, try to prove us wrong.

this is assinine. heroes 3 mp is the epitome of the homm form. that a massive amount of people still play just adds additional support to the fact that the franchise is built upon our nostalgia for it, because its still that good. the single player experience only reveals part of the game. chess against oneself is merely practice. homm, designed by jvc and family, is next-level chess.
permitting both competitive and cooperative play. heroes 3 is the pinnacle of the form, the defining standard, the principle mold. if a better mp heroes experience comes along, we'll upgrade. it hasnt, yet. i dont speak russian, so what.
if you want a different game, make or play a different game. a franchise cannot be redefined. heroes 3 mp is the foundation upon which this franchise is built. improvement is not impossible, but jvc and family left some pretty selfless shoes to fill. too big for ubi. nival came close, and even black hole; still waiting on limbic..

Did they really dare to charge 100E/$ at some point, on pre-orders, before farting their crapware out? Collector's edition or something?

i used a screenshot from h1 to show the "enhanced chess" feel that the developers intended for the series, mp being a core component.
more from h2.
h3 refined the form.
h4 is phenomenal given its still in beta.
h5.5 is the principle single player experience.
h6 beta was promising.
h7 is still in beta.

i know plenty about heroes 3 multiplayer. it's a single player game that takes 4 hours and then you meet your opponent and one of you has already won because you have more angels/wyverns (usually). There's 0 meaningful interaction with your opponent. That's called fundamentally poor multiplayer design.
The point about russian speakers is relevant because it should raise some red flags about the actual quality of game design when only a specific region of people still care about the game, especially when it's an area of the world known for often not having the disposable income to buy newer releases/hardware. They grew comfortable with an old game and continue to play it while other parts of the world move on because they have the means to. Americans really love their strategy games, and you hardly see any of them play heroes 3; why is that?
one of the competitive players even came to say that the difficulty in heroes 3 multiplayer was the logistics of moving your various heroes around the battlefield. Why even bother calling it multiplayer? It's a solitaire game that happens to have another person in it that slows the game to a crawl.
