I feel like some people are waiting just for the bad steps Ubisoft does. It is not about if they deserve it, it is about how you look at things. Each coin has two sides. Some people see only one of the two sides.

All the good things and steps are ignored by those people, all the bad things repeated 1000 times.

you'll understand in a few months, unless you become as deluded and deranged as some of the usual suspects rearing their heads here lol

trying to explain things to you further and change your mind in these stupid circular discussions is going to be pointless until then lol

FTFY.

I'll just repeat what I said earlier. Comparing the game with the worst in the series (H6) and saying that it is better than it gives you nothing at all.

Why do you quote me in that? I said nothing like that today

I really hope there is going to be some drastic change. I'm not dissatisfied with the game itself (meaning H7) but I've become really disappointed by Ubi's lack of respect for franchise.
It feels like they just want to get over with it, close this chapter and the series perhaps.
Not making a single word about upcoming expansion on E3 was clear indication how Ubi sees Heroes. Lack of news, articles, videos and official streams has become standard.
Generic responses from mods on official forum telling that developers are hard at work doesn't cut it, not without proof. It seams that entire M&M team is falling apart without clear direction and without internal or any other communication. It feels like everyone is abandoning ship at this point.
If its true that M&M team is disbanding, so be it. I just hope that they will do it ASAP so someone with more passion can take the wheel.

It's like they skipped the video. A lot can be learned from it.

I did skip it because it won't say anything new. We ve seen it all here. And the first 5 times it was constructive and interesting. But people who moderately dare to like this game are not ubisoft itself nomatter what you want to believe. And ubi does not follow this thread. So all the things that can be learned from this video find no use here. Post it on the official ubi thread. Not that it will make any difference. But at least some of us don't have to suffer from repetition.
But nomatter the debate it's interesting that it's more clear now to whom this forum actually belongs. If only I was a sociology student precious data here.

Point was to point out how the game, even if people like it, should be aware to know how much greater it could've been. I am not against that people like the game, I am against how the same people accuse the community of whining and all that nonsense, simply because we want greater, better things.

How much do they intend to ask for this Stand Alone? Given that it is likely that those who bought the Vanilla never existed, because they don't need to have vanilla version at all, will this SA come as a fully priced thing?

Hero of Order

SC died when the game was released. In the beginning they bragged about it being the most active site of all Ubi games, with the most faithful fans. But as more information about the game was revealed the enthusiasm turned into frustration. And when the feedback was ignored the frustration turned into rage. As time passed the anger turned into apathy. I think Ubi saw how low the pre-order numbers were compared to H6 and the initial engagement, and at that point decided to "get over with it". Releasing the game in alpha condition and letting the devs fend for themselves. The state of the SC site says everything we need to know about how Ubi feels about Heroes. Promised content that never saw the light of day, unfinished work in progress, almost never updated and no feedback allowed. It's sad really, things could have been so different...

While I personally don't consider the game terrible, it also doesn't have the shine and appeal of previous Heroes titles. I have yet to start the Axeoth campaigns. I just feel no pull, no desire whatsoever.

You know, the way I play games, is that I frequently have feelings of nostalgia and return to older games and replay them. In the past 15 years, Heroes 3 has been somewhere in the top of games I revert to every now and then. There's always a latent feeling in the background, a slightest tingle, an itch, that every now and then moves to the foreground and I just have to play it. Other games that do this to me are X-Com: Terror From The Deep and several of the Total War games (Rome 1 most prominently, I guess), or even older, with Dune 2. I simply lack anything of that form with Heroes 7. It's bland, empty, void of that appeal.

For me, I can see the potential is there - they just didn't execute it, because they didn't have the vision required to bring it up to an elevated level that would have won them countless awards for Game of the Year and the like. Sales numbers are cold, hard facts that indicate I am not alone in my, well, lack of interest in Heroes 7.

If anything, I can say that I am severly disappointed in the difference between what they promised and what they finally delivered. Partially this is due to the lack of vision, but another part is simply how they treated the fans; saying they would make the game together with the fans, yet in reality they ignored just about everything that didn't include an angry mob with torches and pitchforks to stress the request. They foolhardy continued on the path they thought was best ... and ultimately led to a game that barely sold and only a handful of people are still playing.

I was being sarcastic about the videos

But to be honest I'm glad the SC website wasn't voting on anything too major, after all anyone could just make an account and vote. However it was stupid of them to ignore the VIP group.

I did take my time to watch the video and I think it's rather hit and miss.

The hits are, for me - town screen, hero involvment in the fight and a powerful editor.

There are objectively bad and misleading points, like music and combat grid system. I mean, obviously music needs to be good, but you can make a large number of systems work. That also goes for the mines - I do think that pillaging system in Heroes 7 is a better way to do it, but needs refinement.

Now the most important point - diversity. Here's a very good reason why it's not done since Heroes 5 - 3D art takes time and resources. Now I get the point where he says that the game should be delayed until it's perfect, and Ubisoft is clearly not giving the devs enough time and budget, but the only reasons the games he cited get unlimited development time and resources is because they sell in tens of millions. He basically explains the whole issue when he says that TBS a shrinking market, so, obviously you can't expect them doing GTA5 in these conditions.

However, I will say that currently Ubi and the devs don't even understand what makes a Heroes game work and cut corners in the wrong places. For example there's no need for full 3D adventure map.

Music can be made to work but.. heroes already has something fantastic there. It's just not heroes without Romero and King's work. Two of my fave H7 tracks were from a different artist but my point stands.

And combat grid objectively works better with hexes. Squares requiring 1.4 modifier for diagonal movement and large units occupying the space of 4 small ones is just bs.

Diversity does not require unlimited resources. It's just ubi being a cheapskate wherever they can. For instance...

- High amounts of remixes.
- Merging all tier dwellings in one.
- Heavy reuse of existing assets with next to no changes.
- Attempt to have H6 without townscreens.
- Low amount of factions/neutrals.
- Low amount of adventure objects.
- One artifact model per category.

And probably more.

Thinking a bit about it, I believe Ubisoft's biggest fault with the franchise isn't even the fact that their design teams didn't get the game mechanics right - the skeleton frame, if you want to.

No, the problem seems to be that they didn't grasp the HEART of the game, and the heart of the game is that it would spur and inspire the imagination of the players to discover and develop their own stories - that's what made the use of simple Devils and Angels and Dragons and Titans and Vampires and whatnot so gratifying: because they were still archetypical enough - just as well as the heroes - to serve as building blocks and fuel for your own imagination.

Which is what Ashan has destroyed - not with Heroes V, when everytging was just another setting, but certainly with 6 and 7, when things became more than some faraway land wherever you want it to be. The setting is just too specific; and indeed, there isn't enough diversity.
