You are missing my point. "Cliche and un-cool" has nothing to do with copying or not. It's about what style and atmosphere they aim for. The Vampire poll really hit the essence of this. They wanted this, and we want this. They think what we want is boring, conventional and un-original because this is the arche-type of a Vampire, while we want it exactly because of that, because that makes it timeless and universal.

Even as an Ashan apologist, I feel like Ubisoft is trying to apply names to concepts that don't quite apply... kinda like my older fantasy concepts, writing my "interpretation" of "griffins" until I realized they were just catgirl harpies. I mean, I like the older visual for Ashan vampires... but when I think about it, it's less because "that's what vampires should look like" and more "I dig the whole 'dark knight with emerald blade' look you're going for." Honestly, people would probably have much less issue with it (spider motif aside) if they called them "Black Knights" or something.
Seriously, Ubisoft. If it looks like a duck and acts like a duck...

Erwin really should've applied to work at Blizzard on WOW or Square Enix on Final Fantasy instead lol
obviously his resume would've been rejected then and would still be rejected now but still a better fit than wrecking this franchise with such guff lol

Yes, if they had called them "Black Knights", the name would at least have fitted what it was. But it would still be a problem in the sense that a "Black Knight" as a creature would be a 100 % neo-fantasy creature with no universal or mythological ties. As such, I feel it would still miss the essence of the Heroes spirit.
And before people start calling me biassed again, I would like to add that I always had an awkward feeling about the H3 Dark Knights for the same reason (as awesome as the unit was, as a concept, I felt it was definitely a filler unit).

I'm still trying to mull over the idea that a beaver, dramatic or not, would be nice as being a shooter for that new faction.

H3 was loaded with neo-fantasy so I really do not see the problem with black knight as a name. I mean everyone knows what that is "neo" or not.
