As much as we enjoyed the original eight-legged spiders, they had a certain creepy undertone, while we really wanted to focus on the sexy aspects the "legs" and "more legs", as it were. Those spiders were also "lighter" in tone than what we had in mind for the new generation of arachnids.
Again, we really loved what was done in the past, so it simply made sense to respect that and build our nine-legged spiders from the ground up, focusing on capturing the core essence of what drew as all back to eight legs over and over, rather than try to modify things that people really loved and enjoyed.
Any spider (and the Grandmother Namtaru above all) could choose to be a villain or a hero at the moment.
It's a lot like life as we know it.

ofcourse spiders have 9 legs. Only male spiders tho. The 8 regular ones + the 9'th middle one. And Erwan's been flashing it to all old HoMM fans, witouth being noticed.

This means nothing. Djinn brought up discussions over Sar-Elam's gender, but if Sar-Elam is a dude, then the female Djinn shouldn't exist, right? Or, simply, it doesn't matter the gender.
Or perhaps the female spiders are like hyenas, and you can't really tell the difference between them at a distance?

Ashan female spiders have 10 leggs + 2 humanoid arms! That's 12 limbs total. What 8 isn't enough? Nope. Gota have 4 extra.
Also her spider part is giving her human part a natural braa ... more than that a natual upper body dress. You can immagine it as her cellulite has grown over her breast to cover her nipples... yea visualise that.
Or you know ... it's a woman in a costume going to games-con ...

2 of those are Pedipalps, leg-like extremities used for a variety of tasks, including mating (though tasks varies wildly between different arachnids). basically, those would be your ninth' leg. They are also what turned into claws on scorpions.

nope, they are clearly shown as leggs. Normal spider has those very small things in front, that's true, but they aren't those 2 leggs in front. They're way too big, and shaped like the rest of 8 leggs.
Plus, they don't need them. Namatarus are not spiders, and they are most likely mamals, as you can see from cellulite covered breasts. For various tasks, they posess human arms.
Spiders don't have arms, but has those small things, Namatarus have arms + 10 leggs

Leaving the spider discussion behind I wanted to discuss something that just caught my attention. Isn't clairvoyance more suited to be a light magic spell? In H6 there even was a building with the same effect in Haven.

Maybe. For me, it doesn't truly matter that much whether it is an Air or a Light magic spell. Good thing is that we are getting more adventure map spells in general.

Claivoyance in the sense that is is "remote viewing" fits better in Air imo. Ylath is supposedly curious and seeks knowledge by viewing the world from above.

It also depends on spell balance. We don't know what spells they have designed for Light Magic, so for all practical balance purposes, they might have moved that one to Air Magic. Besides, in the current form it's nothing supernatural, it's just viewing something across a great distance.
