I still think heroes 6 left an emotional deep scar on all of us.
I wasnt around when h4 was here tho so guess this thing is more complicated than to pin it on heroes 6 only.
I think dryads might have smth like the phoenix ability with rebirth after the stack dies.

also, lets not forget there are another 3 humanoid units in this lineup and Im not counting trees.
This is to me enough similiriaties, there could be another unit, preferable an animal, which would differ greatly from another units and this army would offer much bigger diversity.
But I am not whinig or anything. As I said, who cares about wood elves anyway ? Lets jump on dungeon already

All 3 core are humanoid looking. And honestly, the same can be said for Academy and Stronghold... All are humanoid.
Is the fact that they are female that bad?
And as i said, the fact that they are distinguishable between them is good enough for me

they're both "female tree-spirits". Concept of the pixie was a lot more alien and strange for voting which would be a lot better, but i still like them.

Oh come on! These lineups were voted for. If Perfect balance were to pass, there would have been complaints about the snake, and overall, all we do is complain.
Ok, they have separated the Dryad from the Pixie. You know what, it's ok. If we got an animal we would be fighting if it should be a tiger, a lynx, a cat, a dog etc etc. If we got a Satyr we would fight because it's a beastmen it fits more in stronghold! oH no!!! It fits academy etc.
As for the pixie, it's a fairy that lives in flowers and trees... why should it look any different? It should and i agree be smaller though.

Apart from Heroes V with the alternate upgrades, when was the pixie and the Dryad the same unit?
Heroes VII seems to be going to the approach of alternate units instead of upgrades, so that in itself doesn't make it a bad choice to split the units.

Risking to appear rude,crazy,stupid or whatever someone may think, dryad and pixie are two completely different creatures lore-wise... No one splitted anything. The fact that we got an alternate upgrade in heroes 5 does not mean it's the same..

And it's cool. But we are talking about two separate beings here. So pixie being a separate thing from dryad has nothing to do with ashan. It s just the way it is.

I do as well, but...
The lineup was voted to the horror of many of us.
The units look different from each other and are distinguishable.
Their role and abilities seem to be (we'll know for certain next week) quite different in battle.
Those above points make me frustrated to hear people complain so much about that. I also voted for Perfect balance, but at the very least, i am "happy" to hear that apart from the units being female and/or spirits (no info on pixies being spirits), they have very different roles.

So if a previous game does something stupid, one cannot complain that the stupidity gets reimplemented?

Different roles didn't stop people from complaining about Mizu Kami and Yuki Onna. They were completely different:
Mizu Kami - melee fighter with reduction of damage which it could taken and some bond ability, I don't remember its name.
Yuki Onna - shooter with 3x3 icefield ability.
I have no problem with having both Pixie and Dryad in one line-up though I would prefer those Root Snakes instead.
As for the rest of line-up I will hold my judgement until they show us artworks with upgrades.
