Are you sure it was saved as a .pak file?

When I am changing the files I open the archive (not unpack it), edit files there and then I save all the changes made. Never am I unpacking the files just to make sure the formats of the files match.

Idk what u use for rezipping, but it might be tricky, if u zip the data folder, it will be like data.zip, containing a data folder at least, this is the default behavior for 7zip unpack it, to see, if this is the case. To avoid this, I suggest to select all items in the data folder, then create a new archive.

A Few Thoughts on Play Testing Stronghold

Gave Stronghold a whirl on 5.5 Impossible to see where they were at... I'm not an experienced Stronghold player, so some of my thoughts are recycled/possibly incorrect.

Most Cost Efficient Creeping Formation:

It felt like the best formation for the money was centaur and goblin trapper.  Getting tactics is critical because you can surround your centaur at beginning of the battle with trappers, and use the initial turn of the trappers to set traps instead of wasting it re-positioning as blockers.  

You add in cyclops later as an additional blocker for centaur with powerful counter attack and multi-stack attacks when things get close.  Use goblin eating/tent/call of blood to keep your cyclops from taking too many losses.  

With this configuration, you can take most walker stacks and single unit attack flyer stacks with minor losses.  Move your goblins out 1 space their first turn to block multi-unit attack flying stacks (they are all large). High initiative missile and caster stacks will cause high losses no matter what you do.  

Optionally, you can get a few Chieftans for Initiative bonus/Order of the Chief or Shaman for slow, but each new unit takes away a trapper slot.


Skill Thoughts:

Shout skill didn't play well in my opinion.    

Warmachines didn't feel great as you are basically looking for tent on Impossible, not triple ballista, which is the opposite of what you usually use it for.  

For Attack, you are taking battle frenzy and retribution.  You then have a compromise choice between archery and tactics.  I preferred tactics.    

Class Thoughts:

Veterans played the best.  Chieftans starting with shout was weak.  Shatter skills are only useful for hero battles and Stormwind, so I didn't really like Shamans.  

Heroes I liked:

Gorshack - His centaur specialization hero special is the best special, but he's a Chieftan.  

Crag Hack - The Attack bonus is significant end game and plays into faction strength.  Plus, he starts with enlightenment.

I have comments and questions about the Legion artifacts.

1. They work when the hero is outside the town but they seem to have no effect if the hero is a governor inside the town. I tried it in both situations: when the governor has at least one boosted creature in his army and when he has e.g. only one level 2 creature. E.g. for one of the heroes the message after choosing "city governance" says the level 4 creature growth should be boosted by 15 (proper artifact, huge Knowledge, the "+3/+2/+1" skill and Crown of the Leadership) but the only boost is associated with external dwellings.

2. Do they have an effect if the hero has also the Goose (?) of Legion?

@azalen: CHieftains are a bit like runemages their 1st skill is more late game material, when it can produce large amounts of rage.

Hey,

AI got stuck in one map I play, the progress bar goes to the end but it never ends. Is there solution to that or whole game is lost?

Use cheat to remove fog of war, and you'll see why he stops, or open console maybe some scripts don't work well.

I put command: setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes but still no console?
I added also bind show_console '`'

It works now
AI got stuck on smth, it took around 3 minutes to "think that over" and AI unlocked.

@Magno, I just got a crazy idea. Once you said that it will be nice to balance Might and Magic heroes in terms of hero primary attack. Unfortunately this was not possible due to hardcoded issues.

What if you reduce the default damage significantly and if it is possible give all might heroes the ability to have unstopable charge (tripple damage)? This way the Knights will do the same damage as now or more while the mages will be nerfed down.

Not sure what will be the decision for middle classes but still decided to share the idea.

Yes but it shines with the right setup, like battle griffins shielding marksmen with squire protection. If you manage to cripple enemy ranged fire and make the opponent come to you, it can be pretty nice.

I got these issues reported by one of the players of Czech version, do they appear in English version too? I checked the text files and their translation is ok, I found no special reason why they should not work.

1) Ingvar has no hero description in lobby

2) No "Mentoring" description during level up

3) No "Expert warfares" skill description during level up

If these issues do not appear in English version, do you have any idea what could cause them?

Did you create any new txt files yourself, instead of copying originals?
txt files must be in UCS-2 encoding

Any rypo, even errors in cApitalization, in file names can cause these issues.

I couldnt find the price formula for town conversion in the Town conversion thread. @Magno could you remind me what is it?

Some of the folks here complain that it gets quite steep after just a few buildings get build but without formula I cant build any dialogue.

Considering how much you gain with a conversion I would say that they are fine as they are. F.e. you can accumulate more army on one hero or you can fully refresh mage's guild. That is a great asset and in most cases will determine the game flow. You also benefit from accumulating racial buildings (Dungeon, Necropolis...)
