The WW3 argument is just a bullsnow. You can't tolerate nuclear threats. It's a terror which should be punished like any other form of it.

I think NATO isn't ready to wage war against Russia yet. Ukraine is not Germany, after all. Even if Ukraine will fall, NATO already got a lesson. In the end we will have Russia's isolation (again) and new arms race.

The USSR didn't have a large air force (comparatively speaking) in the early 1940s, let alone adapting and outfitting it for carpet bombings, which requires training, resources, lots of money, etc. The ethics weren't the reason. Over a million people died in gulags within the next 10 years lol.

However, the USSR had very powerful artillery, which to some extent can be considered the equivalent of bombers. The USSR took special measures to preserve the cities of Europe, to preserve the cultural heritage.

There were no million deaths in gulag. The number of all prisoners was several million (not tens of millions, as anti-Soviet propaganda lied in the 80s)  - and these were almost always real criminals. Among them were many Ukrainian Nazis, Hitler's accomplices. Khrushchev, having come to power, amnestied them, and today's events are largely the consequences of that erroneous decision.
Do you know how many people are in American prisons now? Guantanomo still not closed...

What I don't really like is that to attack first is somewhat contrary to the Russian cultural code.  We have to console ourselves with the fact that this is forced, and is a response to, in fact,  a war that has been going on for a long time ...

Oh man, love it when psuedohistory dorks roll out.

GuLAGs were only full of criminals? don't make me laugh.

My neighbor was sent to the gulag with his family as an 8 year old. their crime? The family had two dairy 2 cows, while the guy who ratted on them to NKVD only got 1.
Operation Vesna, in 1948, saw some 300k people, mostly women and kids sent to the far reaches of Siberia with fabricated charges of "supporting bandit activities", their real crime was hesitating to join collective farms.

This btw comes from survivors of GuLAGS, as well as authentic documents from Moscow and St. Petersburgh archives. And there's plenty more stories to tell, from both official documentation to oral history.

But please do go on about muh western propaganda.

Authority? perhaps.
Moral? definitely not.

What's moral about a rat like Lavrentij Beria fuelling Stalin's paranoia?

Russia, as a power, as a country died on the night from 16th to 17th of July, 1918. Sure the Czar was too conservative for his own good, and had other problems, but nowhere near close to the crapshow that was the top tier eschelons of USSR.
What we have since is a bad joke. and stuff like Gagarin's flight is irrelevant.

Spouting official RF historiography, isn't truth sadly. It's a facade. since if it was true, you wouldn't go to jail for questioning it.
Truth is buried deep withing the archives of Moscow and St. Petersburgh, to which access is granted to historians like myself, not little boys like you.

Don't cry, be a man.

I have no reason to believe that your knowledge of history is good. Here, in Russia, there are still people who know history well. Naturally, they are based on facts, facts and only facts. Those archives about which you spoke.
The Soviet period was the best in the history of Russia. It is a guiding star for the whole world. Karl Marx described the shortcomings of capitalism, but did not say what communism would be and how to build it.

That's the main problem. You can't build a flourishing state by just blaming someone's else philosophy.

And in my book, communism is when everybody is paid for their own work, not for work done for them by others.

I advise you to study the history of the Soviet state. It is extremely interesting. It's not about who does what for whom. Many Soviet people did not ask that something be done for them  - on the contrary, they did it for the sake of others.
The point is in specific social mechanisms (we do not yet know what they should be).

The original Soviet idea was in redistribution of wealth, something silimilar to that happens in China right now. No one can have as much money (or material wealth) as it would be enough for another one to live a hundred lives. I think, that was the point. And I understand why many were against it. Greed is in the human nature itself.

I think the real idea of communism is the full potential of man. There were a lot of geniuses in the USSR, a lot was done for the development and disclosure of human talent.
China is not that at all, it is state capitalism, successfully implemented.  And according to the definition of the great Soviet science fiction writer Ivan Efremov, this is "ant pseudo-socialism."

In general, communism was not implemented in the USSR (there were only promises to do so). However, I strongly advise those who are interested to get acquainted with Soviet cinema. It gives a pretty good idea of the achievements of Soviet civilization. Compared to it, Hollywood is a pathetic entertainment for not very smart people.

With that I must agree. But the implementation was not ideal. The USSR had the strongest mathematical school, for example, but girls still dreamed of marrying pilots

Well, it's not true. After the collapse of the USSR people literally choked of the freedom, and Hollywood had risen the whole generation of new Russians. If you say, that it's not true, check the ads from 1990's. If Russians were so happy to live in the USSR, it would have never happened.
