Except that on HC it will be abused as hell and in one day our Messenger Inboxes will be swamped with spam tag notifications.

Then a no-follow option would be the way out.
Apart from that, I don't think that anyone will be mentioning you 20 times a day, really. The existing notification system is making a far worse mess in my e-mail box.
Besides, we all know VW is the land of exceptions. *hint, hint*

Could the "Reset Fields" button possibly be moved a bit away from the "Submit Reply" button?
Reminds me of gamedevs that put quicksave and quickload on F5 and F6, evil one miss and you're screwed.

I've been there too. Isn't "Clear Fields"/"Reset Fields" outdated anyway? Does anyone on HC require its use? What was the historic reason for its implementation in the first place? After all, it loses all content and I don't think it's recoverable. On the other hand, mark all + delete is only a 3 button sequence and can be undone in a 2 button sequence.
If the button truly is of no use and it's possible to change, may I the suggest the button change its functionality to preview post or similar?
E.g. when I want to troll people and ruin community friendly, well thought, and serious threads, like the majority of OSM threads, by posting invisible, auto-playing, and looping, annoyingly loud noise, I don't always type the code correct and then I may have to edit a few times. I think relieving the strain on my person of having to do a couple of edits is way more important than the current clear fields button.

Since I don't know the page mechanics...just sharing a thought. I usually come here and click on Today's Posts and only go deeper if I'm looking for something specific...i.e mapmaking.
Within a Forum, you have what I guess is an automated counter for "what's Hot" ? Maybe on the Thread-listing on Today's Post, that feature could work? Say; once a thread hits a number of posts = it's Text...goes Bold or dark blue. Something to make it stand out from the list.
Cheers for the HC-TLC.
@ Val
Sorry about the first placement but I was "wondering" about more the merging of ideas and mechanics. iow, where a "sort of banner" translates into how a thread appears anywhere. I realize that the current Recent Posts sort of does this just by listing the recent activity but I was meaning something more flashy (within any Thread list)when a thread has QP's or has been rated in some fashion...exceptional, as in your two examples. The idea's probably not doable since most likely text colors or text variations are too limited. Just thought I'd post the idea...in case it was fuel for a much better one.

Why is "" the smiley for ":("? It looks more annoyed than sad - I'd expect its code to be ":|". "" is a more natural smiley for ":(".
Just a suggestion.

Why is overload protection still a thing? The site seemingly can't keep up with Chrome even when going to new pages at normal speed (not spamming the button a million times that is)

Does anyone else think HC would benefit from members being able to upvote posts? E.g. "Adrius likes this" below a post.
- promotes good posting behaviour, funny posts, being interesting (cuz who doesn't like being upvoted)
- can be used to alert moderators to potential QP-worthy posts
- "Show most upvoted" in forum profile as alternative to "QP posts" can be a nice way to access some of the members' best (as considered by the community) posts.

Same here. It sent me e-mails for about a year or so and then, it just stopped for no apperant reason. I can hardly say it's something I complain about though, still, I wonder what changed.

I think posting at HC is too linear to sort by upvotes. A lot of posts aren't standalone, and unlike Reddit, replies are to the whole thread rather than to specific posts. I wouldn't object to likes, but sort-by-likes wouldn't work.

True Mvass, didn't think of that. Could still point you towards a thread that has other greatness in it too, though the effort of implementing sort-by upvotes seems kinda not worth it then.

Didn't want to create a thread, should be aok here.
I do NOT know how HCMs work but it has always seemed to me that if someone is online they do not get a new message if they do not refresh this Site. (out of habit I use Today's-Posts) For me, usually whoever was online leaves and it's "later" hours/days/weeks, depending, that the conversation can begin.
Would be nice if an HCM would be an instant-alert w/o reset but maybe that's not possible. Of course it could be people are not responding right away for any number of reasons but the thing is I always have the conversation eventually but there is always the wasted time and I think for the reason I stated. Not saying I'm right, just guessing.
