In which case the skill itself would be useless. A grandmaster ability that is either op or entirely useless, who would ever argue with such binary game design?

Makes sense with ludicrous number of units you'll see on the adventure map.

And you are going to tell us is a permanent, passive for all the units under your hero command, right?
Yikes.

If you fight those Justicars with level 1 hero the XP will be enough to reach level 15.

Progress is steady. The prototype slowly materializes in full. We are now not far from an intricate and multilayered non-cheating AI challenging our minds while we travel on the Heroes map. Hopefully the experience will be worth the effort.
While reading the comments in this thread from time to time, there is little to add to the sad story that we witness here.
Taking things constructively, there are still some lessons to be learned of what fans desire and what a Heroes game ideally should have, which are imperatives for Heroes of the Ancient Order.
+ we want a polished and professionally produced AAA game; QA must be adequate to avoid games spoiled by bugs.
+ all the skills and traits of heroes and creatures need to be balanced and valid choices that grow as the heroes gain experience.
+ the magic system needs a strong core and rewarding research with many equally viable routes to many different interesting magic builds; this includes the spells as well as the concept how heroes grow with increasing experience.
+ gradual innovations are welcome, but not if they discard the collective experience and lessons learned from the first five Heroes games and their post-release support.
+ a lot of people love good campaigns; they don't want these cheesy or bogged down by lore that diminishes the gameplay. For HOTA that translates to campaign maps that simply play out naturally (a bit like H3). Text and text boxes (possibly with a portrait of the hero) are preferred over cutscenes.
+ it's well worth to invest in building a mature world and setting; the world of HOTA is a giant ringworld with a combined surface of a 100,000,000 Earth-sized planets. Civilizations had emerged already a billion years ago, so there are incredibly powerful objects and places for the player to discover.
+ multiplayer needs simturns, ideally a solution that allows for simultaneous planning and action much longer than the original system.
There will be a dedicated website that will track all this information and much more after the release of the 3.2.alpha.

Quantomas, that sounds wonderful!
Just one thing to note, I see you abbreviate Heroes of the Ancient Order to HOTA. That might lead to confusion with the fan-made addon for Heroes 3, Horn of the Abyss.

Perhaps yo might want to change the short HOTA for Heroes Of The Ancient Order for something else to avoid confusion (Horn Of The Abyss HOTA is a well established name by now in the Heroes community).
Just saying.
Edit: yeah, what he said

This conversation warrants a new thread. Would you please create an appropriate one yourself Quantomas so we can discuss things at large there? Or would you rather have us make one instead? Because there are a lot of questions and things to say and I think we'd kinda deviate from the topic of this thread which is Heroes 7.

There is nothing wrong with having high ambitions but an AAA game is not the same as a properly developed and polished non-rushed game. AAA means having an established, dedicated and most of all a competent/talented developer studio that does not just rely on the talents of one or two individuals. The example of AoW3 shows that a studio of only 15 people can do wonders but that was only possible since they have been both established and dedicated. Mercenary developers might not produce the same level.

That's something I've been wondering myself. Where's the resources backing up the AAA part? You'd need more than a handful of people and some serious funding, which you only get in 2 ways: either you present the project to a major company and convince them to undertake production for your game, or you go Kickstarter. So which is it?

I won't have the time for a proper discussion *before* the prototype is done.
Sure, we will find an acronym that does not conflict with something already established.
