facts

weak town fortress, and its for 2 simple reasons, though there are others:

Hydras are the weakest level 7, and even their attack/def of chaos hydras are the only ones below 20.  When a dread knight is almost similar in stats......

No level4/or 5 guild.

I know this has been thrown around a couple times, but I say there's neither a weakest or strongest town.  For me, Inferno sucks, but only because I don't know how to play them.  I'm best with Tower, but only because I use them the most.  Neither one is actually better IMO.

weak towns

Fortress!lol!
..it's sad to hear that from experienced players

It seems all vote for weakest the one least played
Judging from the outcomes of games and battles i had, towns come in 2 groups..the weak group contains:
_Inferno_Stronghold_Necropolis(if no 1st lev throngs in map)

[The only disadvantage i see in Fortress is no fast 7th lev wich means slow main in middle game][you get 4-5 lev spells from 2nd towns in maps]

I think there all 8 towns are very well balanced and there is no weeker and stronger. I play mostly random maps on 160% and for me Inferno and Fortress are the best there (together with Necro). Some points:
1. Inferno
One of the best towns on resource poor maps. very easy to build resourcewise. you need only 3 sulfur and 3 gems to go upto level 6 (besides wood and ore, but you dont need much there also). For devils you can build a silo so I am usually able to get them week 2 or at most week 3 on almost ANY map, no matter what (after building the capitol). Compare resource requirements to get dragons or angels and you will see how much easier is with inferno.
Devils are IMO the best unupgraded level 7, and the other units are not bad if used correctly. You can have hordes of demons with pit lords raising ability, and ES kick @ss. If you happen to get armageddon in guild then prety much game is over, but you dont need it to win by all means.

2. Fortress.
Only trouble is wood, otherwise cheap buildings and units. As Ichon said MG are very important, but I rank hydras high also due to some AI gliches. You can amass a huge number of wyverns from dragon fly hives with ease. Not easy to take other towns with Fortress, but very difficult to take over it also.

Dont need to say much about necro on random I believe

For me the worst towns for these settings are dungeon (dont expect dragons any time soon, and the other units, except MK plain suck), and Stronghold (I dont remember a single game where I had cyclops, and behemoths and even AB are sometimes easy pray for spells, shooters, etc). But again, it all depends on the playing style I guess.

necro is good. other players losing their army, while your skeletons keep growing and growing and growing..... all i need are :
1.Animate Dead
2.Expert Teleport (poor zombies)
3.Iron Skin & Shield.

As for weak town... hmm..i think, but no offend to rampart users.... rampart are weak without Sharpshooters (IMHO ). Gold Dragon -> Implosions

Dunno but i always affraid attacking Fortress heroes. Especially if i see they have "throng" or "horde" of gorgons.... oh my god... (sigh)

Depends mostly of map.

Large map will serve the tower, conflux and castle. Open medium map can be deadly for castle. For people who still thinks necro rules on XL maps, the fact is that 1, just one phoenix and a good spell can kill thousands of them in a couple of rounds. And if hit and run not allowed, splitting your phoenix/archangels -1/ pack/1, makes the same deal. Just need money, but when playing conflux all you need to hire and upgrade are the fire birds. Of course, if large map.

Conflux is my preferated because of magic university. Buying earth/water/air/fire early game will give you certainly a good high level spell, clone, arma, ressurect, chain light. etc.

I dislike fortress but I know also its strenght. It just force me to choose a might hero, and I suck at those. I prefer warlocks or wizards.They rocks even at low levels.

But 3DO think also that conflux is the best, just look at its grail properties. Invincible, once you have it, and it's not the case with other races.

Yes Conflux is strong in every area.

It is really not on the same level as the other towns.

Produces more units all around.

All have some immunity.

Has the fastest units.

2 Shooters.

Magic elementals are as good as hydra and immune to magic.

Good in a brawl and in hit and run.

And has artifact merchanct and magic school.

I really have not found a weakness in this cheap and powerful town.

ummm...

it totally depends on the map.on randoms necro and fortress are pretty good while tower needs too much in precious resources.the same could be said for castle except there can be an abundance of griffin conservatories and portals of glory kicking around.on t.o.h. maps any town is pretty good in thier own way.also,it depends on how you play them.any vet will be quick to point out you cant have the same tactics with fortress as you would with inferno or rampart.so,knowledge of towns has something to do with it too.and i agree with mocara-i love no rules competition but as of late i find myself stating a no conflux rule.fast,cheap,immunities,numbers more than make up for an extremely weak 5th level and all round inferior attack/defense ratings.

It is hard for me not to say "No flux".

The company who made the add-on obviously didn't care about mutliplayer when they were designing it.

But alas I do not.

I always lose vs it but maybe if I play it enough I will learn from the experience.

Also if I were to start making rules like that then where would it end?

I just don't want to limit what I can learn so I'll lose my games and try to figure it out.

Conflux is the strongest town : cheap almost as stronghold, have army strong as in castle, and in magic it is average.
the weakest town is stronghold if map is rich, and tower if map is poor

I dont know about conflux ( can't remember i ever play with or against it) but the town balance in homm 3 is alomost perfect. there is no weak town. a good player can play with any town. Some might have weaker stats but are cheap.

whoever thinks that Fortress or stronghold suck got no clue

every town is a dangerous weapon if used correctly.

Imo the problem with conflux is Bravado...


I have almost always seen conflux opponents running with 2 or 3 stacks of few- several phoenix...

Although this will fair well against a map.. not so vs your opponent..

And many many many times I have been running with all those phoenixs and a huge army shackles me

Fortress in my opinion is the strongest town in the game. (most do not agree) and is prolly becasue I play my best when using fortress. I think the key to fortress is Water Water Water... those hydras and monarchs become a menace when blessed or prayered... also (in most cases) a good mighty beastmaster is a nice choice for fortress and with the high defense ratings weakness becomes a very usefull tool.  

ANd yeah I agree totally with SOS about inferno... they are definately in the top for me...

I do think for the random maps rampart is the easiest in almost any situation..  Poor map... ok.. elves and some dwarves make excellent warriors.. rich maps unicorns and castle is always nice.. with those grands pounding on map week 2 day 1.

I really dislike dungeon but I love the creatures and the specialty buildings.

Ok then... If you are wondering about what the best town is, THERE IS NO BEST TOWN! as other ppl said, it all depends on ur skills. However, Necro is the best town cuz it has cheap lv7 building. Other than than the halls of darkness, necro doesnt wandering creatures to join. 100 skeletons can crush enemies

well, no this game isnt perfectly balanced, the strongest town is no doubt flux/necro, pheonixes r fastest unit and their growth(!), and reanimation...
while NEKRO has best 4 and 6 lvl creatures, skelies daont even have to be best lvl 1 creatures, their numbers are so great that nobody cant stand against the numbers that are this vast...
Weakest: Inferno or Swamp, i dont get whats the fuss is about with swamp 1 shooter(thats funny a shooter must be attack orientated, however these guys prefer to defend rather than attack), 1 flyer...(ok i know mighty moos, but their arent enough...)
OK inferno 1-5lvl creatures either completely SUCK, either average, the cost is unbereable for those troops,
only efreet and ArchDevils make differnce, which are pretty expensive too...
