Besides, whats being said in that thread is Pure anti-americanism.
I dont think others would be happy if say, everyone would blame a tragedy on their own fault or their goverments fault.

Seraphim, are we reading the same posts? Neither I, nor Salamandre, nor Zenofex is doing some one-sided bashing. People dying is a very sensitive issue, I don't think anybody sees it as "let me checkmate this guy" material or an opportunity to slander Americans. However, if someone comes up and sums up the situation as:
"Oh well, the US is a bright and shining light of freedom and opportunity, though the light is dimming. Some people just hate the light. "
then, I feel obligated to say it is not as simple as that. It is a matter of dignity to me. America is perfect and all of this is happening because some "evil" people can't stand the fact that it is? Do you really think OBJECTING TO THAT is one-sided bashing or do you think SAYING THAT is one-sided bashing? I'm seriously beginning to doubt your objectivity on matters related to US foreign politics. I think your personal experience from the Balkan tragedy is making you speak emotional.

I dont care if Elodin says "America Is the Eden on earth" because everyone knows it is not but what I care is that those terrorists are morally reprehensible and they are, spoken with a lot of prejudice here, evil.
You dont further an agenda by killing innocent people. I would be less shocked if they tried to kill soldiers(One might see soldiers as the enemy) but killing innocent people is Evil.
In that respect, elodin is right to say that Terrorists simply hate america and they want its people dead because of hate.

It really boils down to "US has a bad foreign policy, that pisses off some lunatics and therefore acts like this are unsurpizing".
That is to most people. But people dont argue in the thread because they feel morally bad about the dead people and the tragic events that lead to such a thing, they argue in the thread because of being anti-american.
Nobody mentions Chechen Terrorists in Russia for example because that is not mentioned a lot.
The news about the tragedy comes from American Media, people just feel annoyed of why Americans get the attention. Thats because you are hearing from American Media.
In other words, the whole talk in that thread is unjustified and pure anti-americanism but that is to be expected because it is a thread about an American Tragedy. When the looney in Norway killed a bunch of kids, nobody blamed the Norvegian government, except me, for their ineptness.

I am not anti-american, I am not pro-american. Like any empire, it has its ups and downs. I have no problem with their founding ideals of freedom, democracy and importance of the individual. On the contrary, I share those ideals. That does not change the fact that it is a super-power and it executes that fact like an elephant walking around in a crystal shop.
Yes, matters related to US are discussed more, because it is the culturally and militarily dominant country in our age, it is just circumstantially natural there is more talk about it, positive or negative. Linking that to anti-americanism is like linking the amount of American movies discussed in the movie thread to pro-americanism.
And ironically your behavior is the most anti-american thing if you take the deeper perspective, you are like the guys in the McCarthy period, expecting everyone to auto-censor themselves by accusing them of being anti-american.

Love it or hate it, America is still a superpower and one of the most advanced countries in the world in all fields. And those things obviously bother some people who seek to show only the bad side of America. But for all the evil that America may have done, there's always a USSR, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and so on that has done more. So I think there is nothing bad about America that can't be countered with more things that are good about America. I have no big interest in this country, mind you, except if an event that affects the whole world takes place or maybe the election of a president.

I disagree Fred. Of course nobody is changing their opinion by 180 degrees but by discussing them we test, re-evaluate and modify them. I never act stubborn when something changes my mind. Take your example of the abortion thread, JJ and I were not exactly saying the same thing and we both had modifications on what we said in the beginning. Naturally, we haven't agreed with Elodin, who was defending something that is totally contradicting to our way of understanding things but it is not what these debates are for in the first place anyway.

The threads are there, man. Read them again with checking this in specific. Sometimes people DO say "hmmm, you have a point in there."
Of course, if you expect some kind of miracle where everyone agrees fully and walks into the sunset together, you wont find one.
Oh wait, they did that in the last version of Invasion of the Body Snatcher's, didn't they

There was already a lot of anti-American crap posted when I pointed out the fact that America the Beautiful, American the Good, is a bright and shining light of freedom and opportunity.
The anti-Americans on the board always basically say "Americans had it coming, Americans are fabricating lies and invading here and there for oil and "yet, always trying to set the argument as if they were the ones on the defense."
It is sad that some people have such a deep-seated hatred for America that they feel the burning need to trash America in a thread about an American tragedy.
I don't recall ever seeing a thread about a tragedy that happened in another nation where Americans took to the thread to trash that other nation.

you got proof of this? 'cause, everything i read here is the same. the same arguments, over and over, stated by the same people. you're lying to yourself, artu. i know you want to think that things are being changed, but they're just not, man.
Pretty certain I've changed my mind every once in a while in the OSM, but it happened slowly, over the course of multiple threads, not instantly because of one argument. Now JJ and Elodin haven't changed since the day I got here, and Seraphim is always angry at everyone, but most other posters have changed at least in little ways.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think in English when you say "X had it coming" it indicates that you approve and justify the situation. What we were doing was analyzing the situation. And I don't need a "not anti-american certificate" from you to do that. If your example of anti-americanism is me, you are way off. Where I live, people say I'm too soft on you guys.
