I find the rune guild 1 a priority early on.Even so the 2nd gives up to lvl 4 runes and thus I find it quite cheap.I'll take mage guild 3+rune guild 2 over mage guild 4 any day!

hmm .. lvl 4 runes in 2nd rune guild ? didn't know that ...
how many levels has the rune guild then ?! max 3 ?

Yep.
Lvl 1-2 rune guild 1
Lvl 3-4 rune guild 2
Lvl 5 rune guild 3
The only downside is that they cost a lot of gold. But with reduced costs for capitol/castle it's no biggie Pretty balanced and kinda makes you choose either go for mage guild 5 or split the mage guilds. After you find the resources for thanes of course

Yes, I'm curious to see how much they reduce the gems cost by in 2.1.  Any word on 2.1 yet?

Any clues how to creep with fortress? It needs ridiculous resource ammounts and it has the weakest creeping in the game IMO.. >_>

Upgrading shieldguards on day 2 seems kinda obligatory, but they last.Or go the spearwielder way and avoid decent shooters initially.Warmachines can help a lot here and is easy to get.

I've tried, yes.. but >_> Shielguards still have quite a few casualties after each battle vs. shooters even after the upgrade..spearwielder thingy works ok, but not if enemies are splitted to 3-4 stacks, in which case their special is useless (and splitting spearmen reduces their chances to perform a wound attack, since all this "has a chance to do x" is based on hp difference of the stacks) and it doesn't prevent loses after all, only reduces them a bit.. Compared to other castles' creeping, I find fortress suprisingly weak. Also, no hero starts with warmachines (!) which is very bad..

Well wood is usually abundant.  I've found bears with rune of charge pretty good.

If you don't get rune of charge the spearmen are pretty numerous and splitting them is the way to go.

The Fortress troops and abilities are pretty good so I'm glad it takes lots of resources to get them going.  Still I will welcome some reduction in 2.1.

You know I never use that rune of elemental immunity.  It means you are immune to two kinds of spells?  So like if you got earth and air, then meteor shower and lightning wouldn't work on you?  This is worth investigating...

About that creeping thing, I must say: get Skirmishes then Shieldguards and a ammo cart and a Ballistic... Your good to go.. get some money, runes, magic and then go for bears and other creatures... I don't think they are so bad at creeping, You just need those runes...

the guy with the skimisher speciality, has soldier's luck and many skimrs... split them in 2 or 3 stacks and you're ready to go against walkers... use the shield - guards only when you face shooters .
also the chick with bears is good for creeping...
but, anyway you'll do it , you will have some difficulties  ( . getting war machines early with first aid tent and ballista might be good, but i never got it .

no, warlocks pierce any immunities with irresistable magic skill. The damage is lowered, yes, but it still occurs. I find this rune to suck, since you can simply target something else with a direct damage spell, and there are much better runes to use too (especially rune of berserking)

yeah, skirmishers, shieldguards, ballistics, magic, runes, bears... that's a lot, and it's still not impressive.

Ok but "impossible to kill mmr academy" ? it can be a problem for them

Well yes but sheildguards and skirmishers with hero are enought at start, berserkers+rune of charge later(1st lv rune need 1 wood)
can be hired quite early-its good in second week.

And one more thing; i think inferno is imba after taht patches

Fortress creaping

I think the best Fortress hero for early creaping is Sveya . She starts with lightning bolt and master of lightning ability , so she doesn't need many damage dealers , only defensive meatshields such as shieldguards are . Defenders upgrade to shieldguards is very cheap , it only cost 1200 gold and no resources . Any lvl 1-3 walkers or low level shooters  make a little problem for Sveya , for example , I fought 40 marksmen splitted in three stacks and lose only 3 shieldguards ( yes , I pick another units from battlefield cause its haven't large shield ) . Fast melee units as hell houds , blood furies or war dancers deal very poor damage when attacking shieldguards from a long distance , 10% less for each square went . Sveya needs Sorcery skill as soon as she can choose it and improve her Destructive magic for increasing lightning damage formula .

i don't like her too much cause she runs out of mana really fast !

Yes , she does , but mana is resource restorable , but units aren't . Sveya starts with 20 mana , it's enough for 4 lightning bolts with chocking effect , I think the other dwarven heroes can't be so effective in early parts of the game .

you should try the skimisher guy... the cripple with soldier's luck is way better than the chocking effect ... and the damage of that lightning is really low, against > lvl 3 creatures , the hero arrow might be better ! plus the extra skirms do extra dmg obviously

I was able to creep fairly well early on using Ingvar.  His defense skill on top of his defender specialty makes the defenders an incredibly tough level 1 unit.  I used defenders and spearwielders for units, and I leveled up war machines quickly to utilize the healing tent.  With the advanced healing tent on the defenders I took few losses.

Yeah - Ingvar may look pretty good but there is one, big "but" - he can't take "preparation" skill And it is skill one would really like to have while playing Fortess! IMHO the best starting hero is Karli due to his starting soldiers' luck boosting wounding. Second best is Ebba - she's got really good starting army (9-12 bears is nice) and decent skills - Attack with Tactics opening clear way to Offensive Formation.

What do you think about skills for Runemages? Which should one pick for sure and so on?
I think that most importatnt skills are Attack with Battle Frenzy and Tactics -> Offensive Formation and Defence with Protection -> Defensive Formation -> Preparation.

Could anybody explain me how do both "formations" exactly work? Is it +2 defence/attack for every adjacent tile occupied by fellow? Or is it counted by number of units?
Ok, i fount it It's here in sfidanza post
