It's a she! And once she starts from the beginning you should build rune guild early for her to learn what's not in the guild. Since there are two available runes per lvl it's fifty-fifty if you'll get rune of charge or berserking. Both great but the berserking one helps more later.

BEar riders are the backbone of the army ,get to them as soon as possible.Dont use runes in small battles ,save your resources for the final battleIf u face necro, let him curse your whole army with weakness, suffering, and other nasty level one curses, let him use all his mana ,casting lowering spells, and then use the nice rune of exorcism to dispell them allThen rush him quickly ,using rune of charge and block the liches and the skelies-they're vulnerable in melee get the berderkers in yhe enemy ranks cast on them runr of battle rage, rune of berserking, and then use berderker rage and the enemy will suffer heavy loosesFinish the army with magmas.IF u playing against dungeon, use several times rune of elemental immunity to get immune to the desttructive magic of the warlocks

You are funny. The opponent will use puppet or frenzy that you can't dispell with runes and his mana will never be over with motn. Seriously...

Interesting. I wonder how much of your army will actually remain after you sit tight and wait for him to use all his mana casting these spells.

IMO, it's pretty simple - as long as rune of resurrection can be used everything will work for fortress Even if Ingvar takes the suckiest skills. Oh, wait there are no sukcy skills for fortress..

*Sigh* Take a break Lizzie..and Ingvar is my uncle....

Anyway Fortress is very tough in large maps, with few to average amount of opponents. Like a x-large map with 4 player towns and no neutral ones.

Ingvar, Helmar and Svea are my favs while playing with Fortress.

Ty dud...
Now I know how to make that strategy
It just bases on 3 cretures: Shieldguardians, Spearwielders and Black Bear Riders...
You can get  very little, or no looses with effective Paw Strike and creep very fast .
Moreover with luck u get dmg bonus and Spearwielders are supporting-attackers.
Guards, as their name says guards yor spears and that's all the strategy

Good thing I came over this thread, so don't need to create a new one Necro vs Fortress

Les, yes, they can creep very well. Not so much challenge in that. But try facing Necro at Hard level. Had a game last night against Necro with 1K+ skellies all the way up to 3 Bone Dragons. My troops consisted 300 Shieldguards up to 5 Fire Dragons. The enemy kept Puppeted the Shieldguards and Blackbear Riders back and forth, couldn't be dispelled. Was a bloody battle with huge casualties. Haven't finished the map though, if there's another enemy hero around with half force as that defeated one, I guess I'd be doomed.

Necro is absolutely a tough matchup, especially with Expert Dark Magic.

I didn't say that Black Bear are ultimate power...
They are great in creeping on HEROIC not only hard...
At pre-creeping with normal bers you'll get lots of kinda hard looses, but after you get Black bears and Rune of Charge there is no threat for you while CREEPING.
And if you get good creeping, then you get much more resources, gold, etc. and you can conquer faster...
You can even try rushing necro

Riight Though necro's earlygame should be a little nerfed now even if still very good. The motw nerf at 1 mana per 75 dmg and hard haunted mines was a good move.

Now when ToTE is out, I'm really leaning towards playing Dwarves

I'm a little stuck with the skills and perks which to take. Ultimate protection can be acquired at lvl 23 with Ingvar, but I'm not sure it's worth it as I'd probably have to skip light magic or logistics as I want to have luck.

Also
Attack -> tactics, off formation, retribution
Leadership->empathy, divine guideance
are great too.

What is your usual build? Is the summoning magic worth it with a runemage?

Again we're at a discussion whether or not to go for ultimate. In other threads most people tend to agree not to bother with ultimate especially for multiplayer games. If it's a campaign for your own fun, then it won't really matter.

My usual build, 3 skills I consider of utmost important:
- Light: mass spells are usually better than the other perks
- Defense: Vitality, Def Form, Preparation
- Luck: aiming for Dwarven Luck (especially against caster enemy, anticipating Puppet)

The other 2 would depend on the map. If it's a large map, I'd go with Logistics (Snatch) and Enlightenment (Mentoring for levelling up new heroes fast, I love this perk). If it's a small map then I'd prefer Attack and War Machines instead, trying to combine Flaming Arrows with Triple Ballista. Attack and Leadership is also a nice combination, but it won't help in creeping small maps.

Of course, everything will finally depend on what skills and perks are offered throughout the game. We can't always get what we planned. If it's Ingvar, slightly worse combination might still not be a problem
____________
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it.

yeah, Mentoring is great. I never really realized that due to the exp-curve, a level 20+ hero can mentor any newcomer heroes to like level 17 immediately.
