Hey, am having trouble in mission 2 on heroic after 2 weeks it says orange player has been defeated, I paniced cause I knew orange was strong, after few days a yellow one comes...With a legion of Master gremlins and iron golems!and hoard of titans and djinns too!.Now I thought Yellow was not agressive...What should I do?

Yeah he once had me too (I played on Normal), I just won a difficult battle vs. some renegade Mage, when yellow popped up and destroyed my army (Arantir didn't have enough mana left to summon the Avatar of Death, dammit). It's just bad luck DS, don't take too many risks in week 1 and 2, 'cause the CP(Computer player) will know and attack you straightaway !! Also, I recommend you to have enough mana to summon the Avatar (but only do it in cases of need). I also found out that mass Slow and Mass Confusion have very satisfactory effects

Hmm, Maybe, I know I can get to level 5 from the creeps around, getting Master Dark magic and PM.Once I have the other necropolis (With a Throng of quasit ) It won't be hard.

First post on these forums.

I'm doing mission #2 on Heroic difficulty and after beating the orange enemy I have great trouble facing yellow. First of all I can’t hire any new heroes, this is a lot of trouble because I can’t chase the yellow enemy and recapture mines at the same time. Secondly even though my army is greater then yellows he has more initiative and, 59 Titans which kill 800~ of my skeleton archers in the begging of the fight. My dragons are nothing compared to those titans, 50 dragons kill 6-7 titans while 45~ titans kill 30 dragons, which is really unfair. If you have any tips tell me please, I’m not a good necro player I guess.

Play faster. I attacked the orange player end of week 4 and went straight away to the yellow. You don't need to worry about mines, just make sure you have built mage guild 5 in your necropolis before going into enemy territory. Try puppeting his rajas or what is adjacent to his titans so he cannot shoot, summon avatar, frenzy what is about to play. It's a long battle of cursing and raising.

Mark of Necromancer is going to play an important role if you are going to fight a long, mana exhausting battle.

I had 2 mages guild 5 in both Necro towns and didn’t get the berserk or puppet master spells, is there some "special" way to get it? Why summon avatar if it has so low health/damage (Perhaps it would be more useful if I had also attacked at week 4, I'm not sure)?

Retrying the 2nd mission. I will try rush the orange player as soon as I can.

Make sure you get the cloak of death's shadow and visit the underground near second town to get the vampires. Phoenix is also a good spell so have expert summoning. The avatar increases in strength according to your hero level, it will get better later.

And in the end levels the avatar will be your army.It's strenght will get so high that it can be compared to 15 phoenixes.

The avatar relies not only on hitpoints and damage, but its loads of special abilities. Incorporeal and life drain are especially important, but they are only available at really high level.

Well I tried rushing lvl 5 mages guild, I died at the first encounter of the enemy orange hero wich was at week 4 day one or two, tell me what I'm doing wrong ?

Hmmm, I just used the blind spell on the strongest enemy stack and I actually won with 80 skeleton archers and 89 zombies left! For some reason I always thought blind is useless.

However that only worked on the week 4 save game, I tried blinding the titans during the month 5 save game but by that time I already lost 1000+ skeleton archers and the blind was dispelled.

Continuing with the early orange town rush, wish me luck =)

Not sure how to upload replays.

You can find them in My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\Profiles\Username\Replays and upload them here.

In my game I did not have many losses. The correct timing of curses, summoning, mark of necromancer and raising can give you an almost flawless victory. However you need some good mana and the right spells. That and some luck, it's not an easy mission.

In both cases your enemy has a larger army, don't be quick to engage him. For instance in rush you put your wights within full range of the gremlins and after they die you let the enemy cover their body. You could have cast confusion and let them come to you.

In the no rush the game has taken way too long. With such big armies you can't do much without puppet, frenzy or mass confusion. Mass confusion first, then puppet the rajas that will have used dash by then, have them attack the djinns. From that part on you can counter mass haste with slow, recast curses that have been cleansed but by no means should you move your units towards the opponent. Let his forces come one at a time while you frenzy/puppet his key units. Also be sure to weaken his gremlins before attacking the golems because he'll use repair on them.

Only when the game is under your control should you summon a phoenix or the avatar because this army is too powerful even for the avatar to handle.

Btw no vampires, did you not find them in the underground? I had a huge stack of vamp lords by then. A group of them joins you and you get 3 military posts, plus you can afterwards build the vampire dwelling in town. I should mention that I did not build dwellings in the second town.

The Orange Player attacked me at the end of week 3, I was heading to get the Vampires but had to retreat. I didn’t have Expert Dark magic during that fight so I couldn’t use some really good spells.

I restarted the mission again and followed you're tips, got Enlightment+Master of Mind+Expert Dark magic as soon as I could.

The Mass Confusion+Puppet master tactic works great! The only problem is it takes a lot of mana, even when using Mark of the necromancer it replenishes really slow. I was thinking about getting the Necromancer Helmet, which should help a lot.

Thanks again for you’re tips, I’m beating the Orange Player with almost no losses (Got lucky using the double mana fountain during first fight). Quite sure that this time I will finish the mission

Good to hear Build artifact merchants in the academy and maybe you'll get some knowledge artifacts. As for the mark you can also use it on your units, say skeleton archers that are constantly targeted. Oh and have 1 skeleton warrior next to your archers, it will decrease the ranged fire they receive by half.

You should have more warriors near them, like 20 or 30, because the gremlins are stupid enough to kill the warrior first.
