Skarmory is hit for 11 damage! ((Déjŕ vu ))

((Sleep Roll = 45 – sooo close! >.< ))

Brona and Mina:

“Yeah, I found some Chesto Berries in the ruins,” Mina replied with some enthusiasm. “I also found some weird yellow Berries with them, but I have no idea if those are useful or not.”

----------------

Stacey and Mina:

“I was hoping I’d see you there. I didn’t see you at the meeting yesterday though, so here,” Mina pulled out a copy of the Bandra Report and handed it to Stacey. “I don’t know if you’re going to need this or not, but it couldn’t hurt for us all to be on the same page.”

((It reads:

Quote:
As you may have heard, Lionel has been arrested with the reinstatement of Roden. Since then we have been driven out of Hillsbreak and are still running. We may have to give up our foothold in this part of the region if the people of that town are allowed to continue rallying without interference.

Continuing on.

We lost 25% of our Grunt taskforce during the battle at Hillsbreak. A few of them trickle back in from time to time, but most of them were arrested after the fight or caught in the subsequent search. We have also been unable to take the Dewdrop Base despite our best efforts. I had hoped we could make a fresh attempt once Dream left, but no.

In other news, we recently had a Taskmaster and several Grunts report in after they suffered a sound defeat—they have not been forthcoming about the details on who beat them, but I have my suspicions. Of course the presence of those trainers that far from their last reported location means other questions are raised. Regardless, we will be falling back to Neid. I will keep you updated as we prepare the grunts still in the base.

Our Pokemon experiments in the Dewdrop Base were, of course, total losses—only a few packets of notes and a file or two remains. I would have expected the scientists involved to make their way here if they remained undiscovered. But again, no. They have made no attempt to send messages or given any other signs. One or two were in Hillsbreak and arrested there, but those are the only ones we’ve heard of.

Our stock of wild Pokemon for Grunt usage is also dwindling, with only a few unclaimed specimens remaining. We’ve sent some of our remaining forces to obtain more, but with the amount of activity still occurring in town we can only send the most elite. Perhaps as a result, these efforts have met with minimal success; the last Pokemon sweep team captured a total of four. I have ordered the next sweep not to come back until they can bring more in. There seems to be little else we can do about this. Whether we’ve been over-hunting around the base or for some other reason, we appear to be running out of wild Pokemon to use in this area. If that wasn’t enough, my first lieutenant wants to scare more out of hiding with a controlled brush fire. Good lord.

I do wish to inform you we received the last shipment as the transport crew has no doubt already reported. With the previous batch taken care of one way or another, we have been able to focus our attention on the latest. Thanks to Tenma’s research, we have also made some improvements to our newest acquisitions. Most of the rejects have been disposed of, with the exceptions being useful mutations we could find other uses for.

I also have an update for you on our other project. The latest device has survived at pressure exceeding 10,000 psi. The biggest problem has been with replacement parts, as portions of the device cannot take the extreme strain and continue to break. Luckily one of our remaining scientists had a brain wave recently and was able to remodel the device so that excess internal pressure escaped. With this breakthrough, we are confident we will have some more visible results before the next report is due.

So in conclusion, we currently have no idea where those rogue children went off to. The previous batch of experiments have been disposed of or are ready to receive a trainer. The Base is in shambles thanks to the whole mess at Hillsbreak, and we’re going to have trouble getting back on our feet even without any more interference. And that’s all. If anything else report-worthy happens I’ll send an other.

On a more personal note, I am greatly looking forward to receiving Officer Hannah’s assistance with our operations. Preparations for her arrival are proceeding. They should be completed before her arrival, or about the same time as. We will be expecting her in three days’ time as planned.

Officer Baynor.

))

Mina shifted uncomfortably. “I haven’t faced Pellana yet. I think I’m going to challenge her before we leave tomorrow, but I don’t like my chances.”

Brona and Mina:

“I did, actually, but all I got was a page in the Breeding Tutorial that said they were Dry and Spicy and something about pickles.” Mina pulled out her Pokedex and one of the Berries in question and scanned the latter to show him. “Here.”

Charti Berry – It is often used for pickles because of its very dry flavor. It can also be eaten raw for its provocative taste.

Increases Beauty by 20 points and increases Coolness by 10 points. Dry and Spicy. Feel: 35 points.

“I checked with the man at the Mulch booth, but all he could tell me other than that was that they take three days to grow.” Of course she’d already figured out it was a long time on her own, but Brona didn’t need to hear her gripe about it. “He did say there’s a man who lives south of here that could probably tell me more, but there wasn’t time to look into it.”

Mina shrugged, putting Berry and Pokedex away. “I wasn’t planning on looking into it until after our attack on Keida regardless. But I do think I’ll hang on to them for now.” They were already grown, after all; she’d let them waste a plot of perfectly good soil so there was no sense in throwing them out after the fact. “How are your Pokemon doing? Are they ready for this?”

Sarah just gazed, what had just happened? She wondered, why had this Mark fellow placed himself in the middle of the battle? At any rate, there he was, sleeping like a little child.

Did battles have some kind of rulebook where one could see how to deal with sleeping trainers she pondered.
"Hippo stand down a bit, lets see if he wakes up. Mark! Mark!! Mark can you hear me?? Wake up!" She yelled.

"I wonder if I should poke him, though that might upset his Skarmory."
So Sarah decided to wait.

Christian:

((*sigh*))

You retrieve your Geodude and head back to base after a fruitless day’s searching. The brakes give out on your way back: on closer inspection it seems someone or something cut the lines, leaving a trail of brake fluid behind you.

Luckily this is on open ground rather than in the mountains or somewhere equally perilous, and you’re able to contact the Moontear Base and arrange for a ride back. But, due to the time spent examining the damage and waiting for the Grunts to pick you up, you don’t arrive back until late. ((~10PM))

Brona, Stacey, Sarah, Mark(? If Sarah’s going to fill him in and he tags along) and Mina (noon):

At last most of the Starlight Squad has gathered in the lobby. Elren and all three of his lieutenants are present; Dien with a clipboard, Sesh fiddling with a Venom Ball off his belt and Lijan seeming to focus on nothing in particular—which may or may not have to do with the bandages still wrapped around his head. The three of them are bickering in low voices.

“I still don’t understand why you won’t lead the attack,” Dien mutters, sour expression on in full force.

Sesh meets him gaze-for-gaze. “Because this is a suicidal idea. We do not have the forces to defend Ternai Town and Keida as well, even assuming we take Keida back in the first place!”

“But Hannah will be gone,” says Lijan—the only one of the three still sounding reasonable and calm. “We aren’t going to have a better chance than this.”

The red-eyed lieutenant gives up arguing at this point—presumably unable to think of a counter-argument—and settles for a glare. Elren breaks up further debate among the three by clearing his throat and motioning for silence. He then gestures to Sesh to begin, which the latter does with a brief scowl.

“Aside from the minor concern of who should lead the expedition” Sesh gives another piercing glare to his fellow lieutenants; in the background, Elren sighs “we have most of our plan worked out.”

((Players’ note: Keida is that itty-bitty black square just north of the enclosed lake.))

“For those of you who missed the last meeting, the trainers involved in the raid are traveling west to attack the village of Keida”  Sesh stabs the map with a finger “and win it back from Bandra while the rest of us remain here to defend Ternai Town. I’ve coordinated our defenses with Elder Monac so those of you who are staying behind should already know your parts.

The rest of you will be making your way to Keida. If you weren’t here or don’t remember from our last meeting you will be attacking after sunset to minimize your chances of encountering Hannah and hopefully gain an element of surprise. Needless to say, you will therefore endeavor to the utmost to remain undetected before that time.” Sesh straightens and his scarlet gaze sweeps the room. “Also keep in mind that we expect a rift to open north of Keida late tonight. We now know for certain that Bandra is in league with the legendary Pokemon Aidrelas, so it isn’t out of the question that Selene may be sending reinforcements through it. It isn’t something she’s done before—“

“—that we know of—“ Dien adds sourly.

“Correct,” Sesh finishes irritably, “so be prepared for anything.”

“You will be ensuring that personally, of course,” Dien adds.

“No, I have a siege to prepare for and this was your idea in any case.”

“You’re not the only one who helped set up our defenses you know,” Dien retorts. “I know them almost as well as you do.”

“I’ll go if you need me to,” Lijan volunteers, though the dazed and unfocused look in his eyes is hardly reassuring. Elren seems to think so too, as he shakes his head no.

“Dien will lead the expedition.” Sesh’s teeth snap together with an audible click on whatever protest he had been about to make. Elren turns to Dien. “I know you don’t think you can pull this off, but with Hannah gone and the help of our new friends” the Elder of Stardust gives the group members present a respectful nod “I’m sure you’ll do fine.” Gently he adds, “Now, you all have a dangerous journey ahead of you and it isn’t going to get more easier if you stay here any longer, so why don’t you get ready and go?”

((PLAYERS TAKE NOTE: You’re getting assistance for this mission. This is going to follow rules similar to how the rental tournament was set up, but for those of you who weren’t involved, it works thus: you will make a list of attacks and Pokemon. I will then send you a list of Pokemon that fill one of those requirements (it will either be a member of a species or know an attack off the list) and you will pick three of them. Those will be the Pokemon owned by a Starlight Squad member who will be tentatively under your control for the duration of the mission. (You choose what attacks they use in combat and such). Restrictions are the same as for starting Pokemon: no legendaries, rare Pokemon etc. I will also note that these Pokemon will be in the 15-20 level range, just like the party, so asking for attacks unsuitable for that range (i.e. Hyper Beam) or evolved forms of Pokemon that can’t be reached until past that level is going to get you a ‘no.’))

Mark (and Sarah):

((Per gnomes’ request, headed to the coast))

Mark and Sarah make their way overland to the coast; the trip takes two hours and it’s getting steadily darker as they go. ((~6:30 PM)) But they make it there safely and after a little searching find their way down the cliffs to the shore.

A half-hour or so of travel along the shoreline later and Mark hears an eerie sound over the rushing waves. Long notes echo off the cliffs, broken by shorter, harsher hacking ones. The noise is coming from the west, and about this time Mark realizes he’s lost track of Sarah.

----------------

Brona:

Your Growlithe barks once, enthusiastically, his puff of tail wagging. Around you the rest of the Starlight Squad is gearing up for the mission or returning to their assigned tasks: Elren is wheeled back into the infirmary, looking pale despite his relative lack of exertion, Lijan and Dien are exchanging a few private words and Sesh is out the door almost as soon as the meeting is over. The rest of the room is in ordered chaos as the lower-ranking Starlight Squad members retrieve Pokemon, check supplies, and say a few last minute farewells.

((wog, your list of choices is in your inbox. The rest of you, chop chop!))
