Mark and Mina:

"I'll check." Concern growing now, Mina pulled open her pack and started digging through it. Her Pokemon had been near the top before she started pulling out Berries, Ariados shouldn't be buried too badly if it was there. "He had a regular Pokeball, right?" That one was empty, that one was empty... "Wait..."

Mina pulled out a Pokeball at last, gave it a quick scan to make sure it was the right one, then handed it to Mark, relief obvious. "Here you go."

Mark sighed audibly in relief, gratefully taking the pokeball from Mina and letting the spider pokemon come out. Mark gave him the third Oran berry and pet the pokemon on the head before recalling him again. "Thank you Mina, you're a real life saver." Mark sighed, starting to put his items back in the bag. He left the two fancy pokeballs for last, asking, "Do you know what these two are?" As he held his arm and started looking for the limb's proper alignment.

Mark and Mina:

Mina glanced at the Pokeballs in question. "The one with the red gems is a Glitter Ball." ((Mark may or may not remember that one of Hannah's Pokemon had one of these.)) Mina dug through her memory trying to recall if her dad had mentioned anything about the rest of the line. "The other one is—a Glamour Ball, I think. An upgrade for the red one. They're supposed to be Silph Co.'s answer to Pokemon Contests."

((Glitter Ball: Catch rate x1, +15 to all Contest stats.*
Glamour Ball: Catch rate x1.5 (same as a Great Ball), +15 to all Contest stats.*

*Note that since this is a 'free' boost, it won't affect your Pokemon's battling stats (Attack, Defense, etc.) It WILL count toward Contest stat-based evolution, e.g. Feebas to Milotic, and it will stack with the Pokemon's existing Contest Stats, even if those are maxed out.

Also, the gems light up if there's a Pokemon inside.))

"Huh, so they're for contests and stuff?" Mark asked, setting in his arm which electrocuted him slightly, like it always does when it gets put back on. "Ow, always unprepared for that... Now what use would a grunt have for these pokeballs?" Mark wondered idly. Mayve like that one taskmaster woman Mark had forgotten the name of, the guy had wanted to participate in a contest? It did seem to make pokemon a bit stronger somehow, so the grunts could have been going for that*. Maybe it was something he could train for and participate in then? It could give him a bit of an advantage in a battle, if he needed it. Maybe it was something he could do while he was waiting here?

Oh right, Mina would be waiting around as well. He should probably think of something for her to do. Hmm... if he remembered right, there had been a poster in the Contest hall for a Karaoke night in two or three days. Maybe if she was well enough by then she would be willing to participate. "Hey, crazy idea but... what do you think of singing Karaoke one of these days while we wait for you to get better?" As he said the words, the young trainer felt sort of stupid. Mina probably wasn't the singing type, and lord knows he has massive stage fright.

((*Alternate theory, the pokeballs are really shiny and likely cost a bit more than your average greatball. Thus it appeals to both the ADD grunts and the grunts who want to sell things.))

Mark and Mina:

((Keeping in mind this is OoC knowledge at this point...they are, in fact, a little more expensive than normal Pokeballs, even under normal circumstances. (The Glitter Ball is about the same price as a Great Ball, and the Glamour Ball price is on par with an Ultra Ball.)))

"Hey, crazy idea but... what do you think of singing Karaoke one of these days while we wait for you to get better?"

"Karaoke?" Mina asked blankly. "I've...never sung karaoke before."

"Karaoke? I've...never sung karaoke before."

"Well, to be honest neither have I but... it's something we could do while we wait for you to get travel worthy again." And maybe it would help clear the ever-present white elephant from the room. "Come on, it'll be something stupid and fun, and you'll probably never have to do it again."

Mark finally gained full control of his robot arm and he clapped his hands together. "Great! I'll just go figure out when that is then, and maybe we can look at a song list and figure out what we want to sing and... er... practice?" Yes, practice would be good. Very good. Especially since he hadn't sung anything in the last year or so. Stretching, Mark picked up the bag and stuffed the two contest balls in the right bag. Maybe he would go out to look for some pokemon to catch with them, so that he could participate in a contest? That could be something he did today, and give most of his pokemon a rest after what had happened yesterday. "Alright, I don't want to impose or interrupt your rest or anything so I can go now if you want...?"

Stacey:

In the hall you find a little boy, about seven, who from the looks of things has tripped over the janitor's mop as both are on the floor and there's a good sized puddle on the tiles. He's dressed in his pajamas, clutching a stuffed Charmander and sniffling.

"Go for it," Mina responded. I'm stuck here, someone might as well get to do something!

Mark backed out, waving and almost running into a door for the second time today. He barely caught himself, exclaimed, "They are just waiting! I swear it!" And walked outside. First things first, he visited the contest hall to see about the Karaoke thing. Next, ask where he might find some pokemon. And finally, go out to search for said pokemon for a few hours.

Checking, you find the "Karaoke thing" is scheduled for the day after tomorrow, about 8 PM. Asking around town about wild Pokemon, most of the residents point you out of town—though there's a flock of Murkrow in Ceris itself, feeding off scraps, and you spot signs of Rattata in the dumpsters behind the Mart. A pair of twin boys in flashy clothes also tell you that Pokemon Breeders occasionally hang out in the Contest Hall.

((If you decide to leave town, let me know which direction.))

Mark thanked everyone for the information and headed out of town going south. He let out Tailow and Kirlia, to give them fresh air and just in case a pokemon popped out.

((Very good. ))

You head south out of town; the terrain here is somewhat rougher than the rolling grasslands north of the city, but not enough to make the area impassible.

((Search for how long? You said a few hours, how many is a few?))

((Encounter Roll = 98, 33, 57, 93, 32, 86))

The first hour passes uneventfully.

((Encounter Roll = 73, 18, 57, 99, 21, 50))

At one point you think you hear something rustling, but on closer examination it turns out to be an old plastic bag caught on a rock. As you continue to search and find nothing it becomes clear that you're in a more barren part of the region than Ternai Town had been.

((Encounter Roll = 30, 26, 91, 9, 94, 24))

Another half-hour passes before you see something small moving around near an upthrust lump of stone. It's purple, less than a foot in length ((or ~1/4 meter if you're in to metric)) and has bright blue markings around its eyes. You remember seeing one during the fight against Hannah; the Pokedex identifies it as an Inkel.

Inkel: 72/72

Mark stopped and looked at the pokemon for a second, letting his pokedex identify it before he gestured for Kirlia and Tailow to move forward. "Alright Kirlia, use confusion." they would see how effective that was. "Tailow, let's see if Growl will help us out here."

Wow, so that was effective. If he wanted to catch this guy, Mark was going to have to be careful. "Alright Kirlia, use Lucky Chant this time. Tailow, use peck!" That would hopefully be enough for him to use one of his new contest pokeballs, and then maybe he could go back to the contest hall and ask about training for a contest?
