Mark hesitated for a while, torn between confronting this guy now and going after his defeated (ex?)friend. He decided that, if he wanted to really be able to do anything in here, he would need a bit of backup... so he followed the blue hair person out of the bar. And then he remembered that he was supposed to be with Mina, and that he didn't want to break his word because that nurse was absolutely terrifying... so he shot of a text to her as he continued his pursuit.

"Hey Mina, got a lead. I'll tell you where to meet me." Yup, he was going to wait for this guy to stop before calling over Mina, so that they would not have another thirty post trek while they tried to find one another. No, that was not out of game, Mark totally knows that he's in a PBP turn-based world. What are you talking about?

Mina:

Mina looked around town. The first thing she noted was a largish gathering of people at the house just east of the Contest Hall. Most of the people were dressed in the way she was coming to associate with Coordinators—expensive-looking, fashionable clothes and a lot of care taken about their appearance. But the oldest among them appeared to be a resident, and when one of the gathered trainers called out their Cherrim he got off the rocking chair he'd been sitting in to examine it. This seemed odd, so Mina decided to investigate more closely.

Trying not to be too obvious, Mina pretended to look over the nearby Mart as though she were considering going in. (She actually did consider going in; she needed more potent Potions—but she wanted to check out the strange gathering first, and she wouldn't be able to do that inside.) Then she shamelessly eavesdropped.

"—can see you've been putting a lot of work into it, but you need to do a little more—"

There was a disappointed "Awww!" from one of the Coordinators. The Cherrim was recalled.

(Mina glanced over under cover of pretending to stretch her neck, trying to see if the Pokeball changed hands at that point. But if anything of the sort happened, she couldn't see it.)

"What about my Pokemon?" The sound of another Pokeball opening reached Mina's ears, followed by a cry of "Sunkern!"

"Wow, Lacy, you've done an excellent job! She's definitely one of the cutest Sunkern I've ever seen. I have the perfect Scarf for her, too, here you are..."

Mina listened for a few more minutes, before deciding that was all there was to hear (not to mention she might start to look a little odd just standing there) and moving on.

She noticed a well behind the Contest Hall; thinking it might be a good hiding spot for a thief-type, she went over to examine it. The place was deserted, however; the only thing of note was something yellow that turned out to be a Contest Accessory; on examination it looked a little like flames. Mina stuffed it in her pack, frowning at the litter. ((+1 Yellow Flame)) She did take the time to water her Sitrus Berry before moving on.

This wasn't working; it looked like she was going to have to outright talk to people on the subject. And probably wind up with a repeat of the Daycare battle at the Battle Festival...Mina sighed. At least her Pokemon had more experience on their side this time.

Mina swung through the Contest Hall next; it was largely empty this time of day, but she asked at the front desk and then the handful of people around, "Hello, have you seen a Poochyena with a star on his chest?" That unfortunately was the best she could think of, and she could only hope it was an innocuous enough question to avoid bringing hordes of ne'er-do-wells down on her back or warn them away from town if they were here.

She didn't get any affirmative responses, but one person did ask her if she was with the girl with the little boy. Mina nodded vaguely and moved on. Checking the time she realized that though she may not have accomplished much, she at least had a lot of daylight left: it was about 10:30 AM.

Mina decided to head to that Park next; there were a reasonable number of people there and it was going to be too hot to look around it later.

She was somewhat distressed to find she had to leave all but one of her Pokemon at the entrance, though. And moreso to find they had a size restriction (!) on what Pokemon were allowed in, the man at the entrance waving broadly to a sign reading No Pokemon over three feet allowed in the Park when she asked what it took to go in.

"Why?" Mina queried politely when this came up.

"The playground equipment isn't rated for anything bigger, and large Pokemon don't fit on the paths. It's not a large Park miss," the man responded, shaking his head and nodding a lot.

Mina mulled this information over. As the previous occasions she'd had to leave her Pokemon behind ended up being right before Bandra attacks, she was somewhat paranoid about being separated from them again. But she doubted she was going to get a better chance, and she'd hate to get back together with Mark and Stacey with nothing to show for her day's efforts.

Finally she decided to go through with it, selecting Sandshrew for her Pokemon. (She wanted Oodramer, for his Bubblebeam, but unfortunately he was closer to four feet than three and disqualified. On the plus side the Ground type hadn't been getting a lot of attention to date, and she was durable enough to hopefully get Mina back to the entrance if there was an attack.) The man gave her the little key to the lock box that held the others (that was some comfort anyway; Pidgey was still soaring outside of his ball and the man at the front desk didn't examine them thoroughly enough to realize one was empty) and let her in.

An idea occurred; Mina figured it was unlikely the Pokemon was nearby, but not impossible, and maybe it could hear its name...failing that it made her questioning of passerby seem less out-of-the-blue. So she started down a path and began calling, "Scruffy!"

Sandshrew gave her an odd look, to which Mina explained: "A little boy had his Poochyena stolen; its name was Scruffy. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, we're trying to find it or at least find out who took it." The Ground type nodded understanding and immediately burrowed into some fancifully-trimmed bushes nearby.

((*checks* a little more than half-an-hour...let's call it 40 minutes.

Find Roll = 25, 61, 66, 19
Treasure Roll = 54, 17))

She emerged some time later with a twisted purple tube and handed it to Mina; Mina recognized it as Contest Dye from the pack of the stuff Misty had claimed some time back and stuffed it into her pack, outwardly thanking the Ground type and internally grumbling about litter again. Sandshrew dove back into the bushes, this time emerging with a bit of white cord which Mina also stuffed away ((+1 Purple Contest Dye, +1 White Cord))...and then noticed it was wrapped around a bit of paper, which read:

Heard you got a new shipment in. Take it down to Coastmarch; their inventory is low. Move fast; the Rangers are on to us.

"Oh." Mina remarked, pleased. This was promising...maybe not terribly helpful given it didn't have anything like a name...but promising...

Her Pokedex bree'd at her while she patted Sandshrew for the job well done.

Mark sent you a message!

Hey Mina, got a lead. I'll tell you where to meet me.

Mina texted back, ~Hey Sunshine. Get back to me quick, I'll be on my way.~

Mark:

You get back a response shortly:

Mina sent you a message!

Hey Sunshine. Get back to me quick, I'll be on my way.

Alex slows upon approaching the Pokemon Center and goes inside. Watching, you can see the blue-haired trainer hand the Nurse their Pokeballs to be healed and then sit down on a couch alone to mope.

Mark barely caught himself before he went into the pokemon center to sit by the kid. If the nurse found him without Mina, there would likely be an interrogation... So he shot off another message to her and watched Alex carefully. He found it sort of strange that she had called him sunshine, since that seemed like a pet name, but whatever, it was all part of the code he guessed... Though there was no reason not to play along. "I am your sunshine? Your only sunshine? I make you happy, when skies are grey? Anyway, meet me at the pokemon center. don't really have a 'lead' here, but I do have backup that can help us secure one," He added a verbal "I hope" at the end and sent his message.

"Okay Amethyst, come back out of the ball now." Lyra tactically assessed the situation, noticing their flying property, and noting this with a frown. Least they were weak and dumb enough to not give her smaller team a beating even as she cradled the litwick in her arms and tried to wake it up, shouting out more orders.

Hellen, Dragon Rage! (Hoppip 7)

Mina sent you a message!

Be there soon. I found something suspicious; I'll show you when we meet up.

While you wait, the blue-haired trainer retrieves their newly-healed Pokemon from Nurse Joy, but then sits right back down to mope some more.

True to her words, Mina turns up a short time later, her Pidgey on her shoulder.

"Hey Mark," she smiles, then turns serious. "I found a note in the Park" and she holds out a crumpled piece of paper to you, which reads:

Heard you got a new shipment in. Take it down to Coastmarch; their inventory is low. Move fast; the Rangers are on to us.

"You said you might have a lead?" she prompts after a moment.

Mina let out a sigh of relief at the texted bit of song. Oh good. He remembered.

~Be there soon. I found something suspicious; I'll show you when we meet up.~

She returned all of her pokemon to their balls. That should at the very least get them all a fair bit of experience, and she'd learned a valuable lesson. When attacking wilds, open with all your pokemon at once. However, her pokemon were seriously hurt and as she was afraid of her dear Hellen was poisoned. Time to send these guys to the pokemon center.

The air of the town seemed peaceful and the same as Lyra returned down the streets, the battle worn smile on her face showing her victory as she finally managed to get back in the pokemon center.

Lyra:

You head to the Pokemon Center. It's about 11 AM—the lunch crowds are smaller than expected and the heat outside is getting oppressive. There are none-the-less still people outside, in particular you pass a black-haired teen with a Pidgey on her shoulder and a boy with a prosthetic arm, just outside the Center itself.

The Center lobby is mostly empty, barring a blue-haired trainer plopped down on the couch looking upset. (From the sounds coming from that direction the Center kitchen is somewhat busier.) Nurse Joy is on duty however, and she takes your Pokemon and runs them through the healing machine, handing them back to you good as new.

Lyra sat down next to the blue haired boy with some thoughtfulness, she'd gotten her pokemon back but concern caused her to want to ask the question. Her pokemon needed a minute to grab some food anyway. She folded down her skirt, taking a breath in as she mentally pondered what place to go to next. "So, are you going to be alright? What exactly... happened?" Lyra was turned to face him, with her pokemon cheerful and crowded around her after their first victory in the new region.

Mark and Mina:

"Well, l-let's investigate that after we finish here. Get everything w-we can in town before we go after these guys with some ranger backup. That sort of thing..."

"Oh, definitely," Mina agreed. Other than a possible destination the note didn't really give them anything...names would be helpful. Or a description. Times for when the "shipment" was due...there wasn't even a date on it. Without Houndoom's help, she couldn't even use it for a scent trace.

"—a-and I think we can get some help from that guy in there."

Mina glanced in the Center. She only saw two people not counting Nurse Joy...the brown-haired one looked like a girl..."The blue haired one?" She waited for confirmation before replying, "All right, let's go."

Mina pushed into the Center, making sure Mark was nearby. The boy with the blue hair had been joined by the girl, whom Mina presumed to be his friend...there was a small swarm of Pokemon around them. She hoped this wasn't going to complicate things...

----------------

Lyra:

"So, are you going to be alright? What exactly... happened?"

"I—" It's plain he's been crying, but his voice holds as much anger and frustration as anything. Behind you, you can hear the door open.

----------------

All together now:

Mark and Mina enter just in time to hear the blue-haired boy's response. His voice is broken and somewhat nonsensical as he answers Lyra:

"—I don't know what to do. He won't listen to me, he's already in a lot of trouble, but I," the trainer takes a big gulp of air and starts over "—I tried to make him understand, but he didn't care. And he—he told me I didn't matter anymore..."

In a very soft voice, he mumbles:

"...he sold the Pokemon I got for him..."

Mina sat down nearby to rest her feet, feeling awkward. She didn't pay a great deal of attention to the new Pokemon except to nod in greeting; she was getting used to seeing Pokemon she knew nothing about, and assumed they were Helnith Pokemon. Pidgey, picking up the atmosphere of the people in the room, looked over at the boy and cooed, concerned.

"He..." The blue-haired trainer paused for a deep breath in and out before continuing. Having a sympathetic audience seemed to be doing him wonders.

"He started hanging out with a rough crowd recently. He just said he did it to feel tough, so I didn't worry about it. But then I found out what they were doing when they went out...I thought the graffiti was bad, but the fights—! Jamie never used to fight like that.

I tried talking to him about it. He brushed me off, said it wasn't as bad as it sounded. I should have known. Then he stopped wanting to go out together. I only saw him with his new 'friends.' Then I heard them talking about making some money...then I found out..."

That complicated things...still, barring anything unexpected (how special was this special training?), it sounded doable. And Mina was not, for her part, above sending Natu or Pidgey to go get the Ranger if things went very badly. They were in enough bad situations where there was no one to call for help that she wasn't going get her friends or her Pokemon hurt needlessly just to spare someone's feelings. There were limits to her altruism.

"Where is he now?" she asked. The blue-haired trainer jerked at the sound of her voice and it occured to Mina he hadn't quite realized she was there.

"He—I left him at the bar accross town. I don't know if he's still there, but it wasn't that long ago..."

Mina tried to catch Mark's eye and tilted her head in the direction of the door, wordlessly asking Should we go?
