I think it's important to include the consequence of a legal age. Basicly it means, if someone have sex with someone below a certain age it's a crime.

However, it makes little sense when someone can be sentenced for a crime the victim never thought as a crime. Surely there are cases where the victim see it as a crime, but out of fear does not tell, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the weirdness in that your neighbour can in principle get you in prison for having sex with a minor, eventhough the minor also, truely, wants to have sex with you.

If anything, that it's illegal to have sex with minors, should merely mean that minors can press charges (or get others to with their acceptance), not that anyone at a whim can press charges, in my opinion. The principe behind this is that the government should not go in cases if it's not required by the person who's the 'victim' in the given case.

And yes, testing is not optimal I agree, but I think it beats the current system. What would be optimal, I think, would be the ability to simply give the required abilities to everyone so testing would not be needed at all. This way there'd never be a question about consent, or lack of maturity.

I think what we should focus on, is the possibilities that current technology and ressources allows however. I mean sure it'd be wonderful if no laws were needed because doing anything wrong (here defined as limiting others freedom) would simply be impossible (and all paradoxes solved). However going from the current step, to that step, we probably have a ton of steps to go through, improving the system to make it more and more possible to get such an utopian system where everyone can get what they wants without anyones freedom getting limited.

I mean, come on people!

If there is anything better than having sex, then it's probably breaking the law doing it - if you are young and under legal age, that is, if the dope is good, if mom and dad don't come bursting in, and especially: if the guy next to you doesn't just want to shag around, if someone told you about AIDS and children, if you were not abused as a child OR just yesterday and if you want sex because just looking at that cat makes you shiver all over and touching skin is making you w...

Ok, I think you got my meaning. General legal age makes as much sense as legal age for legal drugs.

@DF: Dirty imagination does not translate into good judgement on matters of sex. Some kid might have thought of S&M bestiality on pogo sticks but that doesn't mean he is smart enough to consider the health risks and unwanted pregnancies that keep floating about.

If it was just imagination... oh well. Imagination is pretty innocent. Doing that stuff ain't.

Calling such a young person "kid" in terms of sexuality is out of place. And putting a 20yo guy to jail for that is even more ridiculous. Who are we trying to protect here anyway?

But yeah I'm going OT here...

I've seen the trailer but decided not to see it (yet) - I thought it looked very overplayed (Jim Carrey seems a bit manic) and quite annoying.

Trailers usually bring out the parts the audience expects to see most. Jim had actually downplayed a lot I found. And Ewan McGregor didn't ham it up as his fem. I'd say they were some of the most realistic portrayals I'd seen in a while.

For a recent and absolutely amazing movie with a gay theme, has anybody seen A Single Man? I think it's the best movie I've seen in the last couple of years.

Guess I'll have to see it =)

JJ,

Exactly (and that simple one paragraph post is a shining example of why I voted for you for the Logical portion of the OSM awards btw, lol)

Needless to say, I agree in large degree. Kind of a taboo subject I brought up I guess really. I didn't know that so many people would have such powerful arguments on both sides, let alone be so passionate about it. Regardless, it seems as though the situation will remain static and change about as slowly as Republicans do

Although I posted arguments against it, I am most certainly neutral on the subject.  I know the reasoning why..but whatever the 'law of the land' is, I am ok with it.

I don't understand why more lawyers don't support civil unions for the LGBT community.  More marriage = More divorce.  More divorce = More Money.  Seems logical to me.

I'm not surprised that so many non-lawyers don't support such unions.

Ok celebrity endorsement for the LGBT community is always a good thing, because it gets the word out..but sometimes I just have to wonder if the celebrity really is behind the community..or just doing it because it is 'popular' currently.

Honestly, if it is just because it is the current 'it' thing to do..move along.  I'd rather have some 'd' list celebrity that was sincere then an 'a' lister that is just doing it for their career.

Not gonna rant, not gonna rant, not gonna rant....
