Osseric had been content to warm himself at the fire for most of the time. His soldier bodyguard was constantly standing behind him, unmovingly.
When the meal was handed round, Osseric thanked the man with a thankfull nod. Osseric had suplies for himself, but if these people offered it to him, he would take it. A copper saved is a copper earned. The soup and steak were good, but Osseric has had better. Not that Osseric needed much sustainance, the magic of the Death-God staved off death as long as Osseric kept his ends of the bargain.
Somewhat later a Lizardfolk and another Goblin asked if they could tag along.
"I did not know that we....were going anywhere."
Osseric snapped his fingers.
"Pray tell what...you good folk are...planning."
One of Osseric's coachmen approached him from behind. He handed him a silver goblet in his outstretched hand and poured a dark red wine from a leather sack. Osseric took a sip and enjoyed the rich fullness of the wine.
"This sounds potentially...proffitable."

"Profitable for you?" Tael laughed. "You wish. The only one I think will really profit from this is our dear Domerth over here." he nodded toward the death knight, then he pulled out his sword and started sharpening it.

- I seem to attract people like flies nowadays- Domerth putted down the plate and went to check on his horse. It was eating from the two sacks of oats that the company found in the camp. After checking that the animals were allright, he returned to the campsite and looked at the people who just arrived.
- You may accompany us if you wish. However, inside the ruins I want everyone to follow my orders.

Tael looked over at Domerth. "You're royal, aren't you? Either that or you've had command of people many times, maybe a general. Only someone with that kind of authority. That's the only reason I can think of you would be able to order people like you do, it's possible to see through the way you carry yourself."

- Back in the Old World I was an heir to the throne. So yes I was in royalty.- Domerth finished the steak.- You were true to your word Salim. That food indeed was fine.- He putted away the dishes and looked at the Necromancer.- A remnant of a Blackstone Fortress to be exact. By what I heard it is at least half the size of the one that is carved into the one of the peaks of the Steelwall range.

"Ah, a Blackstone...Fortress. I see. I know of....those. I've been to....several, though they...were not all abandoned in...the day."
Osseric held up his hand and a mere moment later one of his coachmen handed him a map of the area. Osseric unfurled it and looked it over. His finger traced a line over the parchment.
"I believe that this....fortress is not too....far off my route. If I recall...correctly, those fortresses...have shrines to the....Gods in them. Yes. I will go...along, but I....and my men will...operate alone."
Osseric hold the map up again and it was taken away by one of the archers. He took another sip from his goblet. Then Osseric combed his hand through his beard several times. Then he looked up again and looked intensely at each of the other members.
"What is it you...seek in the....Blackstone Fortress?"

As another Goblin and a Lizardman came into the camp, Poat chuckled and muttered to Salim, "Looks like you have to cook some more.", as Salim scowled.
Salim then walked up to the others and said, "It seems that the spoils of the ruin would be spread too thin for our liking. We only tagged along with the hunters because they paid us. We probably wouldn't be of much help against those ghosts anyhow. You may take whatever supplies you need from the hunters, Poat and I already have their gold, which is worth more than enough for this useless quest. So unless you all are willing to pay me, I would take my leave."

- You'd never explored a Blackstone Fortress, did you? In their vaults lies so much treasure that we're gonna need at least three dozens of carts similiar to those our friend necromancer has just to carry out half of it. And for what I overheard from the hunters I figure that it's defence mechanism is still up. And that means that the ruins are a deathtrap. Untill a certain artifact is disabled. Then you'll be free to loot whatever you wish. I only need a certain tome from it.

"Then why do you wish to keep us around? It seems that the place is merely just an unnecessary risk to Poat and I. Are the treasure of the place cursed and you merely wish to inflict harm on us by freely handing us the gold of the place? No, direct control over us would be more prudent for you, wouldn't it? Or else we would already be dead. Perhaps we really are fodder for the ghosts of that place as the elf said. In that case, I'd rather not get involved, unless you have some personal goal for us or wish for us to stick around until you truly need us and the spoils of the ruin is our payment. Well, what is it, sir knight?"

- Suit yourself. I have no need of that treasure. I only take what I need and move on. The interesting thing about the Fortress's defence is once that the artifact is disabled, the defenses crumble to dust. That's why after my visits a trail of treasure hunters follow. Whoever built the fortresses didn't use curses to guard their riches. They solely relied on their defence systems.- Domerth too a sip from his wineskin- but then again, what's my word meaning to a duo of cowards?

"Come on, Salim. Let's at least take a look around! " said Poat, excited at the thought of the possible riches laying within the ruin.
Salim sighed and then said to Domerth, "Alright we'll tag along in hopes of a true reward in there. "
Poat's eyes gleamed as he muttered a joyful "Yes!"

- Good. But I'm not responsible for any of the creatures that made the ruins their home.- the horses neighed and a scream was heard from where they were tied. Domerth walked over to the horses and found a man being stomped to death by his steed. After the thief fell to the hooves of the beast, Domerth moved the horses and the pony closer to the campfire.
- Someone made a huge mistake by trying to steal our horses. He's no more.

"If there's no magic defense, I can disable the defense systems easily."

- Most of the defences are automated constructs. Golems. They're guided by an artifact, usually a sphere. It requires to be disabled with my blade. The trick would be to reach it's chamber.

((I understand how Domerth and possibly Morrik would know Osseric to be a Necromancer, but the others should at least be a bit surprised by this.))
"If you would...excuse me for a moment." Osseric said as he got up, after Domerth said someone tried to steal the horses. He walked over to his carriage, which was at some length from the camp. As he got nearer he sensed through his minions that everything was fine with his cargo.
Osseric opened the door of his carriage and took out a small vial from a chest secured to the bottom of the passengers-compartement.
Osseric went to where the horses of the others stood just a moment ago. He now had both his soldiers in tow. The body of the man still lay there, his chest caved in, his blood soiling the earth. Osseric inspected the corpse, it was to damaged to raise. The loss of the chest would hamper it's movement.
Osseric opened his right hand and mouthed words. Only those who knew the Tongue of Death would hear him speak, others would just hear a faint sound of howling wind emanate from his mouth. Osseric's staff materialised in his hand, the obsidian orb emanating a faint glow.
Osseric placed the bottom end of his staff on the corpse and started mouthing more words, as trickles of black smoke seeped from the corners of his mouth. The corpse now opened it's mouth and eyes as if he shot awake. From the eyes and mouth of the corpse now poured forth a black light and the body slowly shrivelled in the process. The vial that Osseric held in his left hand slowly filled itself with a goopy grey liquid that slightly bubbled in the process.
When Osseric was done the body except for the skull had turned to dust. One of his soldiers picked up the skull and carried it towards the carriage. Osseric put the now full and still slowly bubbeling vial in pocket of the jerkin he wore under his robe. Osseric dismissed his staff again, it would be stored in the pocket-dimension Osseric used to contain many of his magic artefacts.
Osseric returned to the campfire and sat himself down again. He snapped his finger again and the second soldier came to refill Osseric's goblet with wine.
"When do we...set out towards these...Ruins?"

Tael smiled slightly, a mocking smile. "Necromancer." he hissed, then looked away in discust and instead focusing on Domerth. "The two of us would be enough to bypass the golems. The others could work on building another wagon for the treasure. Possibly. What do you say? The two of you, at least, doesn't want to fight anyway."

- if we have the necessary tools and something to pull it with, then go ahead, build it. After we reach the chamber, you Tael will guard the entrance. For a minute or two, however the defenders will rush towards it to kill the intruders. After that the way to the vaults will be open. We'll head tommorow after breakfast.

The Elf's insult stung Osseric. He dispised him for being a Necromancer and Osseric viewed that as a grave insult. Osseric would repay him for it.
Experience has taught Osseric that despite or perhaps because their near immortality Elves feared aging more than death. And Necromancers knew age more than any others and that is how he would repay the Elf.
Osseric drew some power from the soulessence he had drawn. He would have to sacrifice most of it to his Host, but he would be allowed to keep a few drams for himself. It was a simple but effective spell, Osseric cast. One that required only the slightest of effort and no incantations. The Elf's hands would age rapidly, become stiff and arthritic, their skin would be loose and covered in liver spots. They would revert back as soon as Osseric gave the command, but once the spell was finished Osseric could revert the Elf's hands from normal to high age at his whim. The Elf would notice when he would wake up.
Osseric finished the spell as he finished his wine. He got up. "I will retire...as well for the night. Notify...my servants when you whish...to leave, we will follow."
Osseric returned to his carriage and got in. He drew the curtains and made himself comfortable in the leather couch. He lit the coals in the brazier for some warmth. He picked up one of his books and spent the rest of the night reading.
