The only drawback for me is that we might not ever see a Medusa unit now. Shame.

If this unit were called Medusa/Medusa Queen, would you know the difference? The snake hair is the important thing to note here.

Yes, but it looks like a GOOD Medusa, for god sake, she is smiling, medusas should look terrifying not like they are flirting on the battlefield.
But Elvin said that the art and lore fit the story, maybe the Human King had an affair with this coral thing.

Shark warriors are beastmen, I thought that much was obvious. The coral maiden is *not* a medusa. And more importantly these names are obsolete as they have long since changed.

Since the monkey has come out of the sleeve, I might as well shine my light over the new faction for what it is worth.

Before I go into individual units, I have to say I like what I've seen so far. They've seemed to have created a Water Faction without going to much into the Atlantean style people clamoured for in the past. The style so far is nice and Far-Eastern with a good helping of South-East-Asia thrown in for good measure.
I am very curious towards the lore, as was to be expected from a lore-hound like me.
I do find it a shame that there only appear to be two units that are actually Naga.
The other thing I seem to dislike, and that is very subjective and not the least certain, is that this faction seems to be the least melee-capable faction so far. But that is no more than a side-note.

Ok, unit time.
Shark Warrior - Shark Captain
Like these guys a lot. They seem to more Maori in style than anything else, but that's fine. They look nice and brutal, though the shark-parts of their being are rather obscure apart from the tail. Can't wait to smash some heads with these guys.

Kappa - Kappa Shoya
Like these as well. They seem to be the shooters of the Core tier and it's likely their turtle-side but they look damn armoured. Realy like their sideburns as well. Can't find what a shoya is though, other than the name of some motor-dude.

Coral Maiden - Pearl Maiden
They look to be the support-role if anything. Not bad, but not amazing either. The snake-hair was not necesary, but it's not my call.

Spring Spirit - River Spirit
Some kinds of water-nymphs by the looks of it. They seem to be elementals. They look to be Casters/Support

Snow Maiden - Ice Maiden
Again these appear to be elementals or ascended naga, we can't tell yet. The Kimonos are a nice touch as most of the elementals don't wear many clothes to begin with. These also seem to be Caster/Support, which might be a little much.

Wave Warrior - Tide Warrior
Realy like these guys as well. I love the Samurai / Blademaster feel of them. Also like the more Draconian face. These guys seem to be the old-fashion flurry-of-swords naga. I realy like their armour as well.

Kirin - Cloudwalker Kirin
Perhaps the best unit of the faction. I am used to more bulky deerlike Kirin but these guys are amazing. Love the horns and spikes and the frost-aura. I can barely wait to read some lore on these.

The Naga seems to be the new "Magical"-race that Academy has always been before. So it isn't a suprise that they could have created their own beastmen.

I completly agree with that the Kappa, Tide Warrior and Kirin are the best creatures in this faction!

I think the Ice Maiden is OKAY (I like its design better than the Spring spirit one) and the Coral Maiden/Medusa is also OK but looks very generic and her clothes do not strike me as very original compared to the other creatures. I also think that the Medusa looks waaaaay to human. I liked the Geisha naga waaaaay better as seen in this thread: http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=297058
It looks far more threatening and cool.
The Shark Warrior looks a bit ridiculous with its small head and yes, if its a shark then it should have the iconic back fin too. If they would have added that, then I think they would have looked cooler.

The worst creature is the Spring spirit that just looks like Radiant Glory 2.0 mixed with Ice Maiden.

In my opinion, they should rename Ice Maiden to something... non-icy and make the Spring spirit a neutral and then introduce a new, beast creature.

I am here too late, again anyway, I hope nobody would mind, if I present my opinion on the new faction:

Kappa - they are the murlocs of Heroes Perfect, interesting, unique and I love them!
Shark Warrior - meh, reminds me of the Davy Jones' crew. I'd prefer a lizardman instead. Or a basilisk, or anythink...
Coral Maiden - should be renamed to Medusa, because it is a Medusa (although I know, that "Medusa" is the name of a single being... but who cares, since we have two-headed Cerberi?). Otherwise a nice unit.
Spring Spirit - NOOO! A watery glory?! Why are you doing this to me?! This should be made a neutral water elemental, or just skipped, it is so unoriginal. And it should be replaced by a siren, or whatever... or a flier! There is no flier in the Sanctuary - what about a flying ray fish? Or returning the wyvern...?
Snow Maiden - well, it looks quite OK - if there was no Sprinf Spirit. And it should be renamed... and, wait! Does it mean, that Sanctuary is a snow-based faction?
Wave Warrior - cool unit, but a different name would fit. Even the myrmidon from Warcraft is better (to me).
Kirin - wonderful unit, I love it!

I agree. A Sea Serpent/Coatl would be a great replacement! Then the lineup would be perfect for me.

lol I really like your idea of a flying ray fish as a replacement xDDD

This would also be good .

Hey, maybe simply a flying fish? (I mean, they even exist in real world why not? )

There are
only three Medusa Sisters

There are
only three Harpy Sisters

Only one Echydna, only one Devil, only one Lamassu etc

Shark Warrior - quite ugly unit and not that much of interesting but it's a core unit so it doesn't matter that much how does it looks like. Still it's unique.
Kappa - there was a thread about it in the VW and I pretty much said everything what I had to say about this unit there. It looks very strange and I think that it will be great for killing.
Coral Maiden - she looks hot and cool Why does everyone want her to be named Medusa? Maybe she's only a naga with snakes.
Spring Spirit - haters... The creature is beautiful and not a Glory!
Snow Maiden - awesome again. I think that she is the flying unit.
Wave Warrior - so hardcore! He has an incredible design. I don't like only that they are two warriors but that's not fatal.
Kirin - dragon!!! I was so desperate for one! And this one is truly great! I just love him!!!
Anyway - so far the fifth faction looks awesome and promising.

Yes, I finally bolded the words! Tnx.

Well that's a matter of taste. When those artworks were posted here first, they didn't get a favorable reception. I for one don't like that style, it's way too elaborate.

Riddle me this: What does a sea serpent have in common with Quatzelcoatl? Oh wait, don't bother, let me answer already: Nothing!

Quatzelcoatl was a deity, and as wikipedia would have you know too, in the Nahuatl language it meant the FEATHERED serpent. He's absolutely misplaced in a water based faction such as the one we have now. Should the faction be swamp based or jungle based, then a feathered serpent named coatl (alas after D&D's monster), could be considered. But not now, not anymore. Besides the sea serpent is a completely unrelated creature to the feathered serpent. Well, except that they're both serpents, heh. My personal opinion is that it would fit better with stronghold and the Mesoamerican vibes of it. As, anyway, the feathered serpent, has absolutely no relation to any Asian culture either that appear to be the inspiration behind many units of our 5th faction.

Anyway, including the Feathered Serpent into the game would deserve nothing less than the Champion spot of whichever faction it would belong. Unless you want to degrade it into being a serpent fly ala H3, which I would consider a Hubris and blasphemous to do so!

Given the lack of detail and the offical watermark Elvin talked about, I think these are the concepts. The final, detailed, high res artworks will be released when Ubisoft is ready.

And hoped for them as the new faction.

But Still, I'm hapy with our acuatic themed 5th faction (could use more fish or squid thous)

Coatl would sit pretty naturally in the Stronghold, given their new meso-American theme (see Harpy).

My impressions:

Shark warrior/captain:

They don’t seem to have anything of shark excepting the tail. Maybe, it's just because the artist drew them looking to us, so, we cannot see the shark face. Maybe, if they were holding a trident instead of a "macana", it will look better to me.

The kappa:

They look very well; odd, but well. If they had a bigger turtle shell in the back, and a guan Dao in the hands, it will look perfect to me.

The coral/pearl maiden:

Why don’t call them medusas or gorgon?! They're femine units with snakes in the head and a snake body = gorgon. Maybe, they are not calling them medusa because they don’t petrify the enemy. If you remember well the mythology, the only gorgon who petrifies other people is medusa. Obviously, they are casters.

The spring/river spirits:

Hey guys, when I look to the water spirits, I see a disguised glory (the unit I hate the most in H6) that is playing with water. I just don’t agree with elementals in factions! They must be neutrals; and, if they are not elementals, the real elementals will look just like them. So, the spring/river spirits sucks to me.

The snow/ice maiden:

Ok, to me they look so-so. If they were riding a kind of spiritual fox or panda bear it will look great.

The wave/tide warrior:

What to say about them? They're nagas, with four katanas and armor, and a perfect elite unit.

The Kirin:

Hum... I knew dragons were here, hided in some faction or neutrality. If they had an electric breath, they will be very good champion units.

impression about the faction:

It look promissing, but... the lack of weapons in this faction may be a burrow in the war storyline. Only three units have a weapon. But, forget the arsenal, and take a look in one point: I have a feeling they are trying to fit this faction in a snowy or mountainous terrain (despite Asha's map). See the snow maiden? They must live on snow, of course. But, and the nagas? If they're reptile, they can’t live in extreme cold! So, why don’t put them in middle? Putting them in a terrain which has snow, but is not that cold: a mountain is the best solution to the terrain, but... and the coral maiden and shark warrior? They're sea creatures (and their god too, Shalassa)... anyway, we can just wait for them to solve this problem...

Personally I found it curious to see the kirin in a water-based faction. However there are a few minor influences it seems.

Although it looks fearsome, the Qilin only punishes the wicked. It can walk on grass yet not trample the blades and it can also walk on water. As it is a peaceful creature, its diet does not include flesh. It takes great care when it walks never to tread on any living thing, and it is said to appear only in areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader (some say even if this area is only a house). It is normally gentle but can become fierce if a pure person is threatened by a sinner, spouting flames from its mouth and exercising other fearsome powers that vary from story to story.

The Qilin of China's subsequent Manchurian dominated Qing dynasty (1644–1911) is a much more fanciful animal. Manchurian depictions of the Qilin show a creature with the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the skin and scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox and tail of a lion.

Also note the kappa's head in the artwork

Their most notable feature is an indentation on the top of their head that holds water; this is regarded as the source of their power. This cavity must be full whenever a kappa is away from the water; if it spills, the kappa will be unable to move. Though kappas are dangerous, they are also extremely polite, and a human can best them by bowing deeply to them; the kappa will be obliged to return the bow, thus spilling their water and rendering them immobile.

Mind you I do not believe it will be possible to do that ingame
