This should be in Alexander's thread but that one is closed.
May I ask why didn't you import a picture of a real map to get all proportions right? I've been doing it by hand with a manually drawn grid but it doesn't look good. OTOH, I'm pretty sure that initial picture would have to be modified in some points and I'm not sure if that is linear (just modify the map and it's good to go).

I don't remember well, that was 2008. But I think there were problems with key regions, as Greece being too small if real map match, and also very difficult to match to actual Alexander journey map
Anyway, I had to split conquest map in two, surface and underground. Today I would design it much better, but then the whole script should be reset to other locations, too much work and testing for not big thing.

Do you know if the imported pictures can be modified at will? I've found the tutorial to do it but it doesn't mention that.

Ofc you can modify, that is what editor is for. But then the minimap picture will change, obviously.

Just wondering, would it be too hard to have a "Gold mines not fully upgraded" in the same button as crypts not taken and windmills with mithril not visited?

No its not difficult, since those mines production is based on PO value change, I just didn't think it was necessary, there are easy ways to find the mines, kingdom screen, then also Find me mod.
