Well, HoMM3 AI IS boring when single-play, at all difficulty levels.

Thus, for those hoping HoTA means better/different challenge or game play, there is no such. Is same Heroes, with extra quantity content. You don't need to be older than 15 to see this.

If you only play singleplayer then WoG might offer you the better experience, sure. (depending on who you are). WoG does offer a lot of quantity content which makes sense when it doesn't offer you the human element of an opponent. Personally, I find both HotA and WoG boring when playing against AIs. I don't play singleplayer games in general. I always think ''what's the point?''.

Multiplayer won't fix lack of content, things are bound to get boring sooner or later.

I see that you've never played multiplayer before

Oh come on, I was being ironic! I did play a lot of multiplayer with my brother and my cousin. Years! WoG and H5 mainly, hot seat and VLAN with tunngle. Even now we just finished "Eight Factions" on H5 with improved AI mod, and that was awesome. Week 3 with best enemy heroes of 15+ at all stats, week 4 they were ransacking our territories. That's what I want from this game too. To always be stressed at the maximum, when I play I don't want things to be easy.
I got HotA on my bro's PC but I can't upgrade it to 1.3.1 because of the launcher not working. It's a Net Framework problem that I can't fix remotely. So with HotA I'm stuck on single player now.

You play co-op against AIs. That's not the same as player versus player.

Also, I still play CS 1.6, Warcraft 3, Starcraft Broodwar, Quake 2 etc etc. They do not need to change and have added content all the times to still be fun games because of multiplayer.

Why should HotA ever change Heroes 3 to be something radically different? HotA adds content and mixes up the gameplay without going full WoG.

Co-op only on hot seat, not on VLAN.

I also play CS 1.6 and used to play W3 with Garena, especially DotA. SC only single-player. Never heard of Quake Atm I'm playing RA2 Yuri's Revenge with my bro.

Enuf off-topic.
Any compatible mods... please? I'm dying here

Yes, but porting HoTA to WoG would have been profitable for all tastes: those who want a clean expansion would still able to play it as stand alone SoD expansion, those who want personal modifications to HoTA -to add them via attached mods.

As it is now, more modifications to mechanics via reverse engineering they perform, less will be possible to port to wog one day. I recall the original HoTA project was to create it for wog but I am not aware for which reasons they backed away to SoD, maybe technical problems.

@Stevie, stop spamming please. HoTA is for SoD, means NOT MODDABLE.

Now seriously, what does multiplayer have to do with all of this anyway? Multiplayer won't fix lack of content, things are bound to get boring sooner or later.

VCMI is a future for HMM3. Their AI is improving from version to version.
Also Warmonger rewrote AI, so in 0.95 it will be playing seriously more good, as it seems.
Only VCMI can offer mechanism to create new AIs through DLLs.
So in future you will choose what AI to play against.

Ah, Thanks Sorry, I'm a total noob at technical stuff.

If I remember well VCMI is still in it's infancy. I tried to get it working once and there were a lot of bugs and crashes. Plus with the current features is still a far cry from WoG. But! I get it has a lot of potential and I'm sure it's gonna surpass WoG someday, we just have to be patient and wait.

There is no competition possible between VCMI, HoTA and WoG. They offer very specific things, as they are now.

Without reverse engineering they couldn't have added a new independent town, so it seems to me that HotA simply outdates WoG in such ways. I do understand that some of the things that HotA do with reverse engineering could also be done with ERM scripting. Obviously, you understand these things a lot more in depth than I do, but that's how it seems to me. They might also simply want to separate themselves from WoG. Maybe HotA will support scripting, too, one day, if such game memory manipulation has value to them. I certainly wouldn't mind. Though, I don't understand much of how ERM even works.

Btw I like SoD's text font and size more than HotA's. In HotA the text is a little blurry and in SoD it's more clean (cleaner? sorry for possible grammar mistakes ) so I'm hoping an option to switch the texts styles

I remember that you wrote something like that earlier, Storm-Giant, but I tired it then and it didn't work, so I didn't think more of it then.

However, it still doesn't work. I press esc to cancel, but it doesn't. /sadface

It's a good solution, though. I like it.

You don't get this when you start a combat? (look at purple arrow)

It saved me a lot of time, it's truly useful.

not to be annoying but id vote for automatical intro skipping with small new patch of hota. Why manually press esc every single time when it can be patched?

I don't always cancel the music, sometimes I enjoy it (specially big battles )

As an option, maybe. But HotA team probably gives priority to other stuff...

HotA original fonts

If someone else were annoyed by the small sized Russian fonts (especially annoying if playing with Heroes 3 HD on larger monitors), I removed the font files that comes with HotA using MMArchive, thus restoring all original fonts.
Hope it's okay that I post it.

The English front type is indeed much better, imo. They look sharper, less washed out and easier to read.

Edit:

When I look at the word 'matter' above, then it looks like 'rn' (r+n) with the Russian front type to my eyes unless I move closer to the monitor. I have good eyes, no glasses.

1.3.1 BUGS

Not sure wheter it is supposed to be fixed in 1.3.1 (don't recall the changelog) but the buildings menu of a Random Town in the Map Editor still shows faulty entries.

The description of the Elemental conflux still shows "?"

proposals:
Add to the description of Forgetfulssness that it imposes melee penalty if not already present

I'd rather see Illor or Corkes instead of Derek replaced by Elmore on water containing maps. Aren't Crew Mates/Seamen along with Pirates Cove's most iconic units (especially on water)?

Wanted to say the same.
For the English version the original font type is way better.
