Interesting, considering how many quality of life improvements HotA has introduced, you must think it's the "expansion for babies" then, Galaad?

The game giving you non-choices and being uptight is the exact opposite of good strategy game design.

Randomness does have its place in the game (Plague for example), but arguing in favor of vanilla Witch Hit/Scholar behavior is like arguing the skills are balanced - its just laughable.

That makes the better sense, because yes, I like Huts and Scholars the way they are, and I don't care if some find it laughable and start to flame me for it.

All these changes were made outside of Hota, if Hota wanted to make them, they would have already been implemented, so there is no use asking a thousand times.

Because it is not gamebreaking. H7 developers had the same philosophy than Wind Falcon, trying to "correct the flaws" of previous games, we can see the successful result. Ok they added a bunch of nonsense too but it's a general mindset that I consider to be harming the genre.

If this were true, then they should randomise the skill being offered for each Hero (take the Hero ID as part of the random seed to get the effect that it's the same skill each time for any specific Hero, but different from one Hero to the next), as in the current state of the game you can easily circumvent it by visiting it with another Hero. Also, they should make the game feature an Ironman mode then, with just one savegame, where every step taken gets saved immediately.

No one is asking for anything. We are just discussing different elements of the game and possibilities HotA team might or might not implement.

I of course am fine with people liking something for their subjective reasons or otherwise disagreeing (even if I find why they disagree laughable).

You have been the only one doing any flaming Galaad, and it's your contrarian posts, light on actual arguments but heavy on snarky remarks and ad hominems, that keep fanning the flames.

don't forget however mate that NWC did also amend some traditional functions from the series which were considered stupid, archaic, unfair or less than intuitive during the H3 patch process lol

for example in RoE the player would  need to waste their movement points to move a step back and then back into it to revisit an object they are already visiting, which the Armageddon's Blade added a spacebar to be able to revisit without penalty lol

or also RoE originally also had those random events for artifacts from H1 and 2 where at random some artifacts on the map would have a Leprechaun charge you gold to pick it up, while in Armageddon's Blade onwards these random events cease to exist because they are too odd lol

there were certainly some minor things which were unpopular or dumb and were fixed to make it a bit more fun/controllable,
although maybe in an ideal world all of these features would have on/off toggle for player preference to include or not but meh not too bothered lol

Wait, that exists already in wog! MINDBLOWING.

But people prefer to clutter this thread and go personal on members for some reason.

@WindFlacon: I don't really see how I've been flaming, but I notice when you post, be it in this thread, or the Succession Wars, the atmosphere suddenly becomes very negative so I would suggest you look at your own posts before condemning others.

No, its only you that for some reason have a bone to pick with me, which I never got since I always keep my post general (not aimed towards specific users, unless responding to someone who has directly marked me in their posts) and limited to addressing and giving actual arguments on the different topics.

You are the one that keeps going after me every time I post.

Its funny, this:

Applies 100% to you in this thread.

But this personal back and forth is useless (and off topic). I'm fine with a difference of opinion and addressing and exchanging actual arguments (I actually welcome it), but spare us your "whiners! babies! go snow off somewhere else!" and other trash comments every time someone expresses an opinion you disagree with. You'll get more respect as you give it.

Witch hut is good as it is, but scholar no, because you have to take it with a explorer and this make scholars irrelevant for the game.

If the game becomes too convenient it will not be the same game, as in only good skills and no risk at anytime, or maybe it's the "edition for babies".

If you are controlling 100% everything in the game, some of its magic will be gone, IMHO

Where is the problem to accept the choice when you enter the hut and there is a choice? Always hit the "I want that skill!" button. IF it gets changed at all.

Not to forget the "true leader" condition for artifacts in HoMM1, HoMM2 and ErA... So besically with Castle and a Knight you could get any artifact from start while any Necropolis hero was snowed without Leadership and no chance for it. So thats why Necromancy was so strong by default design to compensate this? Ah... wait... they didn't change that with AB nor with SoD... so hmn... maybe just bad balance then? Thats the whole point here... I dunno why this discussion is about something so trivial like witch huts. Add movement penalty to it and a choice and we're fine.

Anyway I remember I could get Necromancy from witch huts by default was this in WoG? Era? AB?

Oh, it's the same guy who actually put Diplomacy in his top 8 skills a few posts ago, in a response to YOU. I guess you don't realize that there is nothing stopping you from playing by your own rules, be it SP or MP with friends where you had an agreement. You may have the rule to always pick up the offers of the Witches or whatever you want. On the other hand, people like me and my friends who don't want this forced on us... we can't agree to do anything about it, because the feature that interests us is simply not there. IMHO, if most players would benefit from a feature/fix/improvement, then it deserves to be added to mods like HotA.

You say that I should do the mods myself. Let's suppose that I can do that. What will be the point if I am the only one going to use them in SP games? Sorry, but no thanks. Instead, I would like these things to be included in a big mod like HotA/HD mod, where a huge part of the players could use it. And no, I would never be offended if nothing of my visions about how this game could be improved will ever make it to HotA. In fact, if I am really mistaken about something, I would be glad to be proven wrong. Proven wrong by the use of argumentation. Not by pointless statements that I suck at the game.

Since many of you say that these discussions are off-topic, pls tell me what should be actually on-topic, in your opinion! Currently, the new HotA version is still a work in progress. The HotA crew isn't sharing with us what they are doing. That's cool, because less talk = more work. I am sure they have some great ideas, which are going to surprise us. We could only speculate about this, or we could share what is bothering us with the game in its current form. Maybe they'll pick it up while working on the update, or maybe they won't. Maybe they don't think it has a place in their mod, or maybe they already did it.

For example, it's bothering me that, although the minimap is a superior way to scroll the screen, I still can't use the arrow keys on the kbd for that. The arrow keys do the useless action of moving the hero in inefficient ways and I have to hold CTRL for map scrolling. I would be glad if there was a HD mod option reversing this.

Another example: every time I try my luck to dig the Grail, I have to lose my time counting tiles, while an HD mod option to highlight the holy grail of tiles inside the DD square, like in the picture below, would be very convenient.

All these things may look small and insignificant, but they add up and at the end, they save you time wasted for absolutely no point. Same with calculating how many monsters I could kill on attack, before its introduction in HotA.

Is staying silent in this topic really helping anyone? Why the existence of discussions is bothering you? This thread is already huge enough. There is no sane person going to read it from start to end. You have to search anyway. I don't understand why a few posts added per day is suddenly so unacceptable... It makes no sense to me.

Lol, OK my bad here then, I got confused by some later post where I'm pretty sure you said Diplomacy was bad.

That was not introduced by Hota, it was there already with Yona mod, which comes by default with Era, fyi. Anyway that has nothing to do with altering skills or replacing a shamy reload, as it doesn't impact the game, it only impacts you, it saves you the calculation (if you bothered). Changing skills OTOH, impacts the game. I am not against any kind of changes, as a matter of fact I welcomed the ones made by Hota insofar, and it's great they reconsider some overall balance since they added a whole new town, duh. But come on, many things asked here (including yours) are not very reasonable.

OK I may have gone a bit overboard and I apologize for that, I don't know why I get so worked up in HOMM related discussions.

The thing is, I find it absurd that there is these requests in this thread, because almost all of them are already available on another platform, which leads to ask, is Hota really the right platform for you?

And BTW, what is so hard with using the wishlist thread? Since you know such a thread exists with reasons clearly stated in OP, don't you find completely ignoring it to be kinda rude?

From my experience, grail is not always in the middle, it depends if the middle is accessible or not, I saw it around the corners many times. So it would look kinda cheating, imo, if you had a HD square addition which shows where is.

I am sure that it's probably included in other mods too. It's a very handy feature that (I bet) was on the wish list of most players.

To my knowledge, HotA is a big standalone mod which tries to preserve the general HoMM3 look and feel, while making all kinds of additions, improvements and balance changes at the same time. I also find it pretty MP oriented, which I like. Is there any other mod or conglomeration of mods, which succeed as much as HotA in this, and how popular they are compared to it?

ATM, I am not that much interested in features/bugfixes/balance changes/UI improvements/etc., if they aren't part of the HotA mod, except if they have a chance of being added to it. I value the HotA mod as a whole. I see no point switching to other mods for the sake of getting improvements to stuff that is bothering me (but it's not that much game breaking), if I have to abandon most of the great changes by HotA, and risking to face changes which are game breaking to me.

By "before its introduction in HotA" I mean any official game versions of HoMM3 + the HotA versions before that introduction. I don't want to imply that it was introduced to the Heroes community by HotA, at all. Maybe I would use "before its introduction by HotA" then.

Quote:
But come on, many things asked here (including yours) are not very reasonable.

Well, if I bring something up, it either looks totally rational to me, or It looks rational, but I haven't made my mind up yet, so I want to discuss it with other people. I think we need an official FAQ by the HotA crew, where we can read their up to date opinion about the most common things brought up by the players. From these things -  what's going to be implemented in the near/far future, or never? A short text explaining why, would be good, or even better - a link to a discussion which proves these things as ir/rational. It will save everyone's time in the long run.

Quote:

I'm sorry! At that point I didn't know about the existence of that thread. I started with a reply to another user's post and it snowballed from there. When a discussion is formed, it's hard to migrate it to another thread. I'll try to refrain from starting any other discussions here which would be more suitable for that thread, but to be honest, in a wishlist thread you are more likely to encounter other wishers, which are generally more open-minded than your regular HotA player. It's beneficial to discuss stuff with the conservative people too, or you might get the wrong impression that what you are suggesting is liked by most.

The square that I have shown on the picture is relative to the Dimension Door spell boundary, which moves with the screen. It starts at coordinates 8,7 inside DD square and it has nothing to do with the actual location of the Grail itself, so I don't understand why it has anything to do with cheating. It merely acts as the iron sights on a firearm.

I have no doubts that the grail might not be actually in the center, but in these rare cases there is a high chance it will be revealed before uncovering the central part of the puzzle. I have done hundreds of tests on various RNG maps and I am pretty sure in 99.9% of the cases you'll find it inside one of these 25 tiles. Isn't that a common knowledge?

Well Era has literally hundreds of mods, epic maps, the best editor, as well as modding tools available. There is also VCMI which rewrites the entire H3 engine and is open source.

Not with Era, everything is toggable. The only thing you'd be truly missing is Cove, since Hota doesn't allow its ports to other platforms. The rest you can tweak yourself.

Let me restate the situation on wishes and suggestions in the main thread:

1) I personally skip balance/gameplay wishes w/o reading. But other members of the crew read even those.

2) 99% of suggestions are either totally out of style or are being/were already discussed in the team.

3) All that being said - it's always good, when the topic stays on top, but still long personal wishlists are more welcome in that separate thread.

If the suggestion is not balance-related it is a little more likely to be useful, but that is no law - just an observation.
