As far as I know, kobolds have been everything in between small lizardmen, goblins and mammalian thingies...
I don't think there is much need to question it.

Some A lot of lore is quite silly when you think about it. Rhinos of molten rock spontaneously come into being in your homeland... and your instinct is "Imma catch that and put it in my army."
Also, the apparent lemming-esque glory-or-death charges into erupting volcanoes on the offchance you might be "blessed" by your god into a short-lived giant.

Almost all kobolds I've seen are lizard also. Few have had like wolves' instead of dragons/crocodile head in appearance(but reptilian still). I'm not really familiar with the lore though if they actually have something to do with hamsters(just seems totally weird to me).

Never seen a Kobold look anything remotely like this. This is a Berserk Combat Hamster if I ever saw one!
Dis? Never heard of that before.
Einherjar as upgrade of Fire Giant? Doesn't make sense. Why didn't they go for a Fire Jotun instead (yes, that is actually a thing in norse mythology)? And the lore - or please, why OH WHY does the Giants in Ashan always have to be a special subspecies of Dwarfs? My eyes are bleading from reading that piece of information.
But creatures look good. The Rune Priests don't really look like dwarfs either, I miss that about their H5 counterparts.

General impressions:
- Defender line is traditional... an obvious keeper. I like that they have proper axes this time; never was a fan of whatever their weapons were in H5.
- Bear is... okay. I miss the riders, though. Bear cavalry is awesome.
- It amuses me greatly that the Kobolds react to their creation with "...we don't want to talk about it." I can just envision this subsect of House Chimera squeeing over their adorable little hamster-men pets, only for one doofus to leave the cage open and for them all to sneak off in the night.
- I don't know what to make of dis. A more than likely Elite tier resurrection unit? I thought the Valkyrie would be in the Fire Giant's spot. I'm curious to see how they implement dis.
- Rune Priests look absolutely boss. Disagree with alcibiades, though. They have the same stocky build and a beard, so how do they not look like dwarves?
- Thoughts about Lava Rhinos above.
- As with Fire Giants.
- Awwwwww yeah. Now THAT'S a dragon!

Actually, a better name than fire jotunn (because even I, a lover of the nordic mythology, think it sounds even worse) would be a muspell, the actual name of the fire jotunns. Or it could work as the name for the upgrade...
And just to note, fire giants are a subspecies of dwarfs. Says nothing of other giants.

But, what if those creatures appeared in Heroes VI? After all, it was planned to be in the game, but was scrapped out.
Just pointing out that the line up wouldd be also reused (mostly) from Heroes VI - if they existed in that game.

Given how a lot of people struggled with Landsknecht, I think they didn't want to scare people off with "Múspellsmegir" or "eldjötnar/eldthursar". Conversely, "ein-her-jar" is easy for people to break down and pronounce.

Honestly I don't think it matter much, it didn't appear after all. Beside, reusing unused concept isn't near as bad as copying directly from used concepts.

And my thoughts, I am generally very satissfied:
Defender: Expected classics (iconic unit, EnergyZ )
Bear: Not sure why we need bear single unit when we have a hero riding on the bear but another bear rider unit would be even stranger (and the bear on the artwork is also somehow cute)
Kobold/Hamster: I think this game/lineup needed some controversial, interesting unit to dicuss. Much better than H5 Spearwielder.
There are also some leaks how the recruiting buldings look like:
Kobold scout
Kobold pathfinder
Dis: Cool unit, I wanted to see her in H7!
Rune priest: It looks like a H5 then more than runepriest but generally I have no problem with it (another classical unit)
Lava Elemental: Go, rhinoceros tank! I really wonder if it does not get the unfettered ability!
Fire giant: Design from Ashan compendium, a bit looks like smith coming from fairytales
Red Dragon: Fortunately gets better model than wyvern

Luckily H6 died soon enough to allow them to introduce this "new" and rather decent lineup.
But, as I said before, the time for "how it looks" debates is long gone, in my opinion.

Body proportions. Those are the proportions of a human, not a dwarf - too tall compared to width.

Muspel is great too. Could be Fire Jotun -> Muspel. Or Fire Giant -> Muspel. Either works fine imo.

To be honest with ya guys, i really don't mind at this point in the game if they introduced all the creatures from heroes VI as neutrals or as alternatives to the current lineups. I mean, if out of a crappy game can come some good, i will take it. As long as it is free i mean. Having more and more models from units for our modders to work with (even if reused from heroes VI but having their animations in game) will allow for much better content.
Next thing i wanna learn about though is the new abilities in general, meaning the lineup and neutrals. The new abilities, if interesting enough, will spark interest to our modders to implement them in better positions on the current lineups as well, thus making the game much more interesting in general.
I know, that i am placing too much of a faith to modding instead of the expansion, but if the game is half as polished as the vanilla and there is a good variety of new units (a four legged something that its animations can be used for Unicorn or a nightmare) and abilities, and the skill systems proves to be even a little bit better than what it is now, then i might have new hope for this game.
