Some very interesting points about Heroes 4 here, it looks like there was a lot I didn't know about it. I think it's funny that, despite everything, the game turned out quite good. It seems plausible that the backlash to the Forge town did play a significant part in all of this. Thanks for the info people.

Agreed. I didn't knew this interview but it just confirms what I tought about the game. The was not a proper development of the AI. For me this resumes the problems with H4, I even dare to desagree with Mullich and say the extensive role playing was a plus.

For me, it doesn't seem that they destroyed the franchise. Just think about it, in an age where MMOs, Shooters and Simulator games are the only games profitable, they still work for a Strategy TBS game. I think that Heroes VII is on a good way now (or at least much better than Heroes VI was  ).

For me, it doesn't seem that they destroyed the franchise. Just think about it, in an age where MMOs, Shooters and Simulator games are the only games profitable, they still work for a Strategy TBS game. I think that Heroes VII is on a good way now (or at least much better than Heroes VI was ).

1) Dragon Gods
2) Annoying, childish colors
3) Bad storylines
4) Horrid units
5) Race-based units that take half of the town (dwarves, snow elves and humans)
6) Bugs, bugs, bugs
7) The fact that they talk to us everytime with HELLO HEROES! (so annoying)
8) Boring neutrals.
Enough reasons why HOMM3-stuff should come back.

I don't think this is the case.
Depends on how much you invest into it and how much you hope to get back from it.
As I was saying in the 2D thread, if you don't invest millions into making a 3D graphics game and you focus on gameplay and strategy you will hit your target audience.
There are lots of TBS games being made these days and I doubt they are having troubles. Eador, AoW, Xcom, etc

You need Unnofficial patch 3.1, Eternal Essence (Quantomas improved AI), and eventually HV Graphics overral if you care about better textures.
If your CPU is not something like 10 years old it should run good enough. AI still slow but faster, so you can at least play M maps without much trouble, if not 8 players, L are OK.
If I'm not mistaken Quantomas is working on a new version of the AI, which would be even faster.

It's not like me to give up on a game because it slows down on xl map with 8 players while every other thing is great.
Ever tried Disciples III? If not, you'll see what "design-wise good, but unplayable" is

Well, the same logic can be applied to your post, cant it? If you dont like people criticizing something then simply dont read it and dont post on such threads. How is that any different? No, the thing is, positive or negative, feedback is an important thing and trying to convince people to agree with you is one of the basic foundations of any modern civilization. You are doing exactly the same thing and there's nothing wrong with it.
And about reacting to the use of the word rape as a figure of speech, I dont know if to call that oversensitive to the point of naive or politically correct to the point of absurd but in both cases it is abysmal. Words like kill, rape, destroy etc.. will always have metaphorical usage in any language. Needless to say, to get killed is even worse than getting raped but if you take out phrases and metaphors containing the word kill from any language, you might as well cross off half of its richness. It's mindless stuff like this that makes people repelled from the mentality and turns them away from reconsidering their stance in situations where they can indeed be more sensitive.

Yeah, that was like... 7 years ago.
On PCs made today, there is no problem with running H5. I don't have any problem running TotE, and played with my friends for a 5+ hours on a bigger maps. On top of that, my PC is 4 years old, of course it isn't really old but it isn't exactly new either.

Problems like too few maps, no random map generator, scenery obscuring resources - and me getting a black screen whenever the AI moves - still persist however.

There is a random map generator in ToE. If you open single player or multiplayer and choose option "create a map", there opens random map generator. Need for constant map rotation is one of Heroes V downsides. It was fixed in Heroes VI and as seen from Heroes VII gameplays it won't come back. Speaking about sluggish AI - well, at least each faction has its own waiting tune and that's cool but I agree, it could be quicker.

Because they hate old times, old style, old graphics, graphics over gameplay and they just like WOW, I hate the WOW-age.

Thanks. I probably knew about this at one point but forgot about it.
I only ever owned one copy of H5 (w/o the expansions) and has since lost it.
The few times I do play (or attempt to play) H5 it's in hotseat mode with a cousin.
