in this case you can probably benefit from the fact the map editor artifact tab doesn't function properly for h55, see:

Hotfix crippled 8 skills

We seem to be unable to get the 8 skills option working although the button during game creation is selected.

We missed the MMH5.5: Hotfix (RC14 Beta3) patch and around one week ago installed it.

Until now we still have to make sure, that it isnt an unlucky probability set of events, but after lvl 20 none of our heroes
is offered a new primary which in earlier games was a good indicator, that the skills were capped at 6.

Any ideas, what to change? (reinstallation or an edit in the pak file)

Thanks for the effort

Ps sharing on github is probably a good idea

the patch itself cannot break the mechanism, but likely something happened during the transition. like game going back to default settings

you also seem to indicate this is a multiplayer game, possibly somebody ran from the wrong exe.

MMH55-Utility.exe doesn't support 8 skills, but MMH55.exe cannot use AI in LAN.

you should also be aware an old save game can never have scripted bugs fixed from a patch, a new game must be started for that (this can't cause the 8 skill issue tho).

Also all players should have 8th skills enabled when game is started. Otherwise it will cripple the game.

Hotseat mode

@Magnomagus

These were hotseat games on a map with 8 factions, thereof 2 human players. We checked twice to be sure, that's why we were curious.

Guess we could still check further by editing the map with witch huts and XP but how likely is it to have 6 skills on advanced to expert level and not get a primary?
The first time we got an level up window with secondaries only, so
we knew sth. was off.

What also struck us as strange is the inability to
place heroes with 8 skills in the editor.

So I was playing a game as Darkstorm today and it seems like his class is both Overlord and Trickster at the same time?

He was listed as a Trickster on the hero selection screen, and started with the Luck skill, but once in game his class was listed as an Overlord. He still got the Trickster bonuses from the town buildings and learned Destruction Magic from a witch hut, and his stat spread seemed right so I didn't think too much of that, plus I'd noticed some other heroes are still listed as their old classes too, but he was offered Combat several times upon level up and even Shatter Destruction despite already knowing Destruction Magic too. What's up with all that?

beta 3 still has a few heroes that do not have the right class, darkstorm is unfortunately one of them. In beta 1 there are significantly more such bugs so updating is needed. The older RC13a doesn't have such issues as it is not in beta.

Hello everybody!

I only recently started playing some H5 again and found out there is an unofficial Heroes 5.5 patch released. Everything I've seen so far look/sounds great.. must have been alot of work! Good job!

However I am having some difficulties with runing the game.
I already had installed TOE 3.1. Then I installed the H5.5 RC13 update and after that - H5.5 RC13a.
Everything seemingly went fine, with me logging succefully into the game and running a game in version 5.63a.
However the Heroes in the game have the wrong skills and they do not follow the new skilltree. It is as if they are still mostly 3.1.
Most of the descriptions of the heroes are Ok, but some specialization abilities and Heroes skills are all wrong and not according to 5.63a.

Do you have any idea what is wrong and how it could be solved?

likely you are using the wrong exe file, don't run through steam, see for all possible causes FAQ in my signature

Is there any point in clearing treasure buildings like orc tunnels early on? I see that you get way more units later on but fight way harder enemies

Personally I like to wait to the beginning of month 2, but I only play against the AI so take that with a grain of salt.

RC14 Beta 4 has been released!

RC14 is still in beta because a lot of new ideas are still being worked out behind the scenes. This release will include the following major updates:

-Faster 1-unit stack splitting
-Greatly improved creaturepedia
-Graphics Overhaul
-Last bugs fixed from beta3 (hopefully )

Faster Stack Splitting

Thanks to discord user 'The way back is way ahead', splitting 1-unit stacks from a large stack is now much easier, the slider will default to 1 unit, therefore you will no longer have to move the mouse cursor to indicate the amount of creatures you want to split off.

In order to create 1-unit stacks fast, hold down right shift while moving a stack to another slot then press enter. You shouldn't be using left shift otherwise your hand cannot hit the enter button.

Bonus!, also done by 'The way back is way ahead': The imbue arrow ability is now canceled when the spellbook is closed after selecting the ability but before selecting a spell.

Greatly improved creaturepedia

-Thgryphn has greatly improved the games internal 'creaturepedia' it now allows the stats of both upgrades and the unupgraded variant to be shown simultaneously.

Graphics overhaul

Since the short-lived cooperation with xuxo has ended, all his texture edits have been removed from the mod and redone the whole landscape with our own textures, edited from H5 and H6 source files.
All landscape textures have been redone and the style of some landscapes has changed (for the better), many mismatches in color temperature have been fixed and the game as a whole will have a warmer color palette.
The Texture pack has been cleaned up and is much smaller, a new more efficient format was used for many textures so performance and stability will be better. The game has reverted to TOE-style blue gems, because they offer better visibility.

Balance

-Consume corpse and spirit link are further nerfed again, please understand these are not early game skills and remained highly exploitable in expert games, to casual players they may seem too weak now when taken early, the game will be further geared towards daily mana regen in earlier stages in upcoming versions.
-Arcane Brilliance gives +2 SP and +6 mana regen instead of +2SP at level 20.
-White unicorns are immune to blind.

Bugs

-Fixed script bugs with hero Benedikt when present on a map
-Fixed Vidomina and Darkstorm being the wrong class internally
-Fixed attempts of the game to give chieftains weakness spell
-Fixed swarming gate possibly not computing properly
-Fixed multiplayer gotai having 2 specs
-Fixed some minor issues with development % of skill development and starting skills of heroes
-The Enhanced AI description was changed to add that its behaviour is modified.

Cool... Sometimes I wonder if the player should be penalized for the 1-unit blocker tactic in someway as it is too powerful with the game mechanics...

It just feels weird to have the creeping phase emphasis be on 1 unit blockers with ranged/ballista/spells when the game should be more emphasizing
assembling all of the different creature units in your faction and using them together in a clever way.

Awesome!  Maybe, one day, we might get a new faction  I know, I know, not going to happen...

They give far too much mana back compare to other mana regen skills and often the battle can be smartly extended to maximize profits.
