"The meaning of AMENITY is something that helps to provide comfort, convenience, or enjoyment."

I think the level of comfort of our lives improved significantly by western technologies (consumer, medical and industrial electronics; cars, passenger planes; software). Look around you and count how many things labeled "made in Russia" do you see? Yes, you may say they are made in China. But you cannot say that they are Chinese technologies actually.

And, again, why do you think Russia will develop their own technologies now? I think problems, preventing that, still exist, they didn't go anywhere. This is just bravado.

You again jump to another topic when you have nothing to say. I didn’t write anything about Russia’s current prospects in the development of  technologies "for comfort".
At least you could apologize to your homeland, after all the information that I provided you. But no, you prefer the lies provided by the glass bead sellers.
Have you ever drunk the Soviet drink Baikal? Natural, wonderful drink. No comparison with such harmful rubbish as Coca-Cola.

Of course. Though I cannot say I like it much. But tell me why it's not so popular as Pepsi or Cola? It's Russian people who voted for Cola with their roubles. The same I can say about almost everything - cars, computers, even clothes.

Firstly, special additives (aromatic, narcotic). Have you seen how cats and dogs react to cheap special food (which actually contains little useful)? Secondly, the craving of a Russian person for everything foreign, which, apparently, is written in the genes. The USSR gave citizens the opportunity to have wonderful things and a wonderful life, but what is in the genes (accumulated for centuries) does not go away right away.

But only a narrow-minded person will deny that Coca-Cola (or a hamburger) is rubbish.

Still they continue to consume it.

It's not about genes, it's about competitiveness. Make better and cheaper, and people will buy it.

Well, you see, you often write about issues in which you are not very well versed. For example, in the social sciences. Also, you are unlikely to be well versed in economics. Those who are in the subject know that the dependence is by no means linear. And marketing plays a big role - simply, to put it, ways of fooling. Besides, I already wrote about flavorings and drugs.
I had a familiar priest who lived in the USA for many years. He understood everything about this country. Their national idea is "there will always be someone to fool" (this is a quote from my familiar priest).

I don't see how I'm "fooled" by Intel Core processors. But if I bought an analog (I hope they exist), I probably would be fooled Don't know if Russian processors are good. The same I can say about cars. Haven't heard positive reviews of Russian cars (don't know, maybe now there are decent models for the same prices). Even Russian officials prefer foreign cars, though Eltsin tried to convience them to support Russian car manufacturers. What then will you tell about ordinary citizens?

Well, it can’t be that the country doesn’t know how to do anything at all. I do not deny the obvious - unlike you. See, I'm stating the obvious. You do not have enough honesty and courage.
We had excellent IT technologies (of course, not in the user sector), but from a certain moment they simply began to copy Western ones, and then they simply began to buy when the USSR collapsed.
I'm telling you, one of the troubles of a Russian person is disbelief in one's own strength, although history and life have repeatedly confirmed his talents.
What computer was the first chess champion - do you know? It was the Soviet Kaissa. Domestic GAS-21, by the way, was also one of the best cars of its time.

Why then the government doesn't support IT sphere? So, the most talented engineers and programmers have to work for western companies. Deal with your country before dictating to others how they should live.

About faith in strength. The USSR already had a chance.

You are talking off topic again. The USSR uses its chance by 200%. The success of the USSR surprised the whole world. If you want to know the truth, and not what you want to know, you will definitely come to the truth. First - what is in the head, then the material consequences. The USSR was doomed after the catastrophe occurred in their heads.
But he didn't just disappear. He remained a guiding star for new civilizational projects. And during his lifetime he did a lot of things - gave a chance to China, destroyed the centuries-old colonial system of the West, and much more.

But couldn't save itself. This speaks about a country a lot. It tells that the USSR wasn't quite brilliant at all. Some even say it was a prison. That's why it actually collapsed (at least, I think it did because of it).

Collapsed because many people were misinformed (including about the "prison"). Man always wants more. The Soviet man looked at Western life and noted the good for himself. There was an illusion that by moving to another system, all the good that is left, and more good from the new system will be added. And this is impossible. Each system has advantages and disadvantages.
About the prison (real, not figurative) - there were only a few million people in the gulag, and almost all of them were real criminals. Do you know how many people are in American prisons now? Much more than it was in the gulag in the toughest times. Yes, plus American prisons outside the United States, such as Guantanomo. There cruelty more than Gulag.

As you said, every country has its disadvantages. And I don't say that they are the heaven on Earth. If Russia will be able to stay open to the world, maybe it will prosper. But definitely not until this war is stopped.

That is, you know more about it than the people who lived in this country, people who voted in a referendum for the preservation of the USSR? Who came half a million people on March 10, 1991 to a rally for the preservation of the USSR ?

If you want to make a thread about the socialist paradise called USSR - go ahead. But it's off-topic here, because this topic is about RUSSIA waging war against the Ukraine.

Likewise, if we talk about Germany and their EU politics we also do not start blabbering about how great the Third Reich was and everyone had a wireless and women were safe on the the street and we are also not talking about how great life in the GDR was - although there ARE those who claim that, both for the Reich and the GDR.

But you know what? Off-topic.

Well, I already wrote that at some point in the USSR they began to copy Western decisions, perhaps from the 70s. Rather, designers usually showed domestic developments to leaders, but they were rejected, preferring a more reliable cloning path.
The notorious American Donald Knuth studied with Soviet programmers and attended Soviet scientific conferences.

Yes, the GDR is no less cool than the USSR.

You are right, of course. It’s just that a discussion of the USSR still pops up if we communicate on this topic more widely, talking about civilizational confrontation.
