A new creature bank has been revealed.
Technically it's one we've seen before (and have even heard the name of, Boreal Call, although from where I can't remember), however we now know its function. It's a gateway to the Realm Between Realms, and defeating the guard awards you with something called Grand Shoths.
I'm 100% sure this is related to the secret faction, given the snowy theme and eldritch abomination vibes. Also, I did a little research, and it turns out that Shoths are Dungeons & Dragons original creatures. They're a race of oozes from outside the known planes who are fiercely loyal and overall extremely helpful, so they can form close bonds with sentient creatures until they willingly choose to be melted into goo and have their knowledge added to the shoths' collective hivemind. Weird, and seems to fit the vibes of the faction.

The Kobold Press Shoths being as obscure as they are, it's also possible that it's a case of parallel naming, "shoth" being pretty easy to get from "shoggoth". Of course, that too would seem to fit the vibes of the faction from what we know thus far.

Also, they did a showcase of some of the new blood effects, and one of the creatures is a beholder-type thing that hasn't been seen outside of background screenshots. It seems to be one of the new faction's creatures. The Olden Era Google doc lists it as the faction's tier 1, although I don't if that's confirmed or just speculation. Still, the fact that they just casually threw a new faction unit into a showcase implies to me that the new faction is ready to be revealed.

An end-of-year recap for Olden Era.
Technically there's no new content there aside from a more detailed look at how the Dungeon looks (I was COMPLETELY wrong about how 3D the screen is, by the way) and a showcase of a day/night cycle, however it is a nice little catchup for some of the really nice things that didn't have big announcements.

Homm sequels almost always disappoint and Ubisoft doubly so.
Still not keen on the unit design, but I'm a HommII purist through and through.
BUT
The fact Unfrozen seems to be following the New Years Homm tradition gives me more confidence than anything else they have done so far. These guys get Heroes like no one has since Homm V at least.
The fog of war options are also fun, the second one is very Age of Wonders 3.
And the community feedback informing design as well as assuaging concerns is awesome.

What do you mean?
I just thought the camera could tilt a little to either side. I didn't expect the screens to be explorable to that degree. It still doesn't look like you can spin the camera 360 degrees, but it's a lot more than I thought.

A lot of us have been part of the fanbase for years, myself included - gonna hit 16 years since my first venture onto Acid Cave!

Yeah looks like the towns are true 3D after all and not the 2D within a 3D plane diorama/parallax trick I was originally thinking.. although like you I do still wonder if there's some sort of diorama illusion and you can't go full 360 camera rotation.
