This.
In any fantasy I ever read where gods played an important part the mortals and their relationship with the religions was what made the story. Their faith, dedication, fear of other/own gods anger, the religious institutions -self imposed or not- effect on the culture. All of these angles on the story are left unexplored if there is certainity. Even the story of a mere peasant could be made interesting by telling a fraction of a fraction of a gods aspect and the faith surrounding it.
But now we are left with certainity and there is hardly anything left to explore without retconning stuff or introducing even more convoluted lore.

Marzhin's a big boy who can handle himself. No need to treat him with kid gloves. Also, I think it would be false to say we blame him for the mess. If anyone, we blame Erwan, and maybe Fabrice, and maybe the Ubisoft BoD.
Also, much of the vehement criticism is a "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained"-effort. If you don't ask for big changes, you'll not get them.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone ask for that one though? I may be wrong and I don't see what goes on on the Insider's side of things.

personally I don't even really blame any of those folks, despite my avatar lol, probably it has a lot to do with Ubi as a company
they want a big brand they can milk into the ground like Assassin's Creed, and you're not gonna get that from straightforward, simple little tales like Heroes 2 lol,
no we gotta complicate everything and make it big and bold and bland

it's had over eight years and like ten games dude lol

Indeed. I'm not taking any of this stuff personally in any case.
And you probably remember I was not a big fan of Ashan to begin with. It did grow on me though. I think it has potential for great stories, and I feel most of the games so far have not done the setting justice (for many reasons, not all Ubi's fault). But it's getting better.
Some of the criticism towards Ashan is certainly deserved, but some of it seems unfair to me. That's when I'll chime in. But in any case it will just be my opinion, and I certainly don't think of myself as the Voice of God
My philosophy is basically: don't spit against the wind. Like it or not, Ashan is here to stay. Since I'm now part of the writing team, I'll do my best to improve it, to tell some (hopefully) nice stories in the spirit of the NWC era, and when I can I'll bring back some of the flavour of the old universe (Erwan is actually pretty open-minded about that, as long as you don't have cyborgs roaming around).
And like many fans I'd certainly like this universe to move forward, beyond Dark Messiah, into the brave new world of the blank timeline, where anything is possible

I’ll have to agree that some things should remain a legend or a myth, which the characters either believe or reject adding depth to the story. On the other hand I’d rather have one world with consistent rules for me to explore, rather than switching from one to another with every game, never really knowing what happened.
Generally speaking, I think it’s a matter of perspective. For some of you the freedom of switching to a new setting with every game was an expression of creativity, while I consider it to be very unimaginative and simply confusing. I’d rather have a single world to explore throughout many games and learn of its history (sort of like in the Lord of the Rings franchise) than start anew every few years.

But ... if we go far enough in time, wouldn't the inhabitants of Ashan keep developing more and more advanced technologies until eventually Cyborgs (as well as nuclear missiles and orbital ion cannons) become a reality?

That's the reason we need the Heavenly Forge in Heroes VII
But, I dread the moment they'll transpose the factions into some cheap sci-fi adaptation.
Can you imagine the Griffin solar empire? The Asha's cult union? The Urgash's fleet of destruction? The Irollan Confederation? The Free Star Republic (There you go, Sidious was a wizard)?
By the way that would be ripping off Warhammer 40k
