Shortest period? Well, haven deals most damage in short period. But Warlocks and his stalling & hit-n-run strategy can still beat it!

@Sanyu: it seems you sorted most of them by their effective dmg combined with small portion of their survivability in practice, sure i agree with that.

Yeah, they are not ENTIRELY useless, but i just dont like them, mostly because of their low damage... and, when compared to something like Blood Furies, then they seem quite weak, dont they?

it's nice to look beyond damage and initiative, mind you 
As a warlock player, I'd rather have gargs rather than furies in the lategame battles, although I'd certainly miss the zombie/golem killing in earlygame.

Lol! I'm glad you have cited your arguments accordingly  I guess obese units are at a disadvantage!
As for the archmage I'd say it's pretty good, after all when berserker is in the game why pick something else?

Correction: The ability Gating is ability of the hero, not of the creatures in his/her army.
Pit Lords cannot gate themeselves without a hero with expert Gating skill.

In any case a wraith is more useful in a battle due to high stats/damage while having a decent initiative that the pitlord lacks. They can be raised as well that means in the time of battle you'll face their full numbers - boosted by necromancy if you wish to take into account the racials.

I agree.
After the Pit Lord's mana is done, he remains a walker with 4 speed and 8 initaitive, with bad and unstable damage, that kills atleast one creature, if he reaches it.
