THE Magma dragon has invincible defence-he possesses Magma
Shield,40 HP more than The Black Dragon, and looks like a dinosaur.
And dinosaurs rule.

Errrr...
Maybe I'm wrong, but on AoH, about Magma Shield it is written that:
'When this creature undergoes a melee attack, the attacker suffers Fire damage, the amount depending on the attack's force.
The attacker suffers 40% of the damage dealt to its target as elemental fire damage.'
There isn't writen ANYTHING 'bout defense boost .
By the way, everyone know that 'dinosaurs rule' , but it really doesn't help while facing Black Dragons at all...

Of course defence dont do anithing to the magma shield.I mean that everyone is thinking that tha black dragon is the best creature,but the magma dragon is the most powerfull,because he got high defence,more hitpoints,and the most cool-magma shield.I hate Dungeon.I hate the Assassins,the blood fury,the hydras,the raiders,the stupid and ugly shadow matriarchs,and hate the black dragon.HATE THEM.HATE them.And the pit lord is the best 6 creature[with the warlord,the wywerns,the manticores and the black knights]

magma shield never was a killer.. it's nice when those quadruple jousting paladins want to take down your dragon stack, though.

to those who said the archmage shouldn't be on the list. I had 340 of them and their entire magic produced almost 1500 damage. But they only have 7-7 damage. With all that magic they can kill 6 black dragons. Geee that's refreshing. Their damage is too low for a 4 lvl army. they For example look at the succubus 6-13. Wich one would you rather bless? the mage is the last in my choice, it suffered a downfall regarding the one from heroes 3. With that I could kick ass.

The mage still has cleansing (important), fireball that kicks butt in earlygame, line attack (may hit a few stacks more), finally, it can cast righteus might on titans if nothing else comes to your mind. A very good utility unit.

-- IMO Peasants/Conscripts are the worst by far especially now that you can train at most 20 units with a knight, you'd rather train more useful units than them.
-- Tho when you could still train unlimited units they were a key figure to kill the enemy quickly by training lots of them into Archers then Marksmen.
-- The second weakest/most useless mob I'd say is the Zombie/Plague Zombie cause tho it has many Hp-s compared to some other level 2 units, but with the speed of 4 they need 3 rounds to "get into action" - I mean close to an enemy on the other end of the battlefield -  and by that time they are usually killed by ranged attackers or spells.
-- Tho if I think a bit about it the Stone Gargoyles/Obsidian Gargoyles are not much better either (second worst in a tie with a zombie), cause they are rather resistant and pretty fast, but what for? The damage they can deal is absolutely ridiculous... But they are still more useful than zombies I guess.

Was this damage cause with ranged attack or by spell? If you have 340 mages and use their Fireball spell, they will do next to no damage, because of the logarithmic damage formula. Don't even get me started on that. With the proper mini artifacts, their line attack can be rather deadly, however, and they are great to use for Cleansing and Righteous Might like Doomforge mentioned.

I don't quite agree with that. Of course, there are much better tier 2 units then the zombies, but they're not designed for attacking. I think theiy're great in the early games to protect your skeleton archers. Their high HP makes them of course hard to kill, and Kaspar or Vladimir can easily resurrect them (even with their high HP)
I think they were designed for that purpose.

No creature is really useless. It depends on how you play, and what you need in a battle. I'm afraid that -small exception- the Peasants have become rather useless with the Training limit, though.

@nickkkk: It's allways the same whit spell casters their magic gets weak in high numbers. Elder Druids for example has great Lightning Bolt spell what can make good damage early on but it's useless in very long games. Range attacks will deal more damage later when damage multiplied whit big stack. (Not to meantion heros attack skill + perks)

Mages and casters are still overall pretty good units in the game. Only Pit Lords are horrible

Huge resource costs of dwelling & its upgrade, pitiful initiative, abysmal speed, low spell damage after a month or so due to non-linear spellpower increase, mediocre damage (without taking vorpals into consideration) for level 6 unit, very susceptible to weakness with no ways to bless it (cuz light magic is a no-no for demonlords most of the time), needs teleport assault te be good for anything except for casting 1 spell after the battle is already decided.. hmm, have I forgotten something?

imo, they are not bad though, they just need that damn teleport assault.. badly.

Their Meteor Shower aren't that powerfull. 1 Meteor and 1 Ball and thats it. Vorpal Sword is good in very early game expesially vs Phoenix but i would use my money for something better. Pits initiative is just too low. Nightmares are mutch better choice when they are very fast and this suits for Attack oriental Demon Lords.


EDIT: Yeah Doom pretty mutch said it. TA is perhaps good in some point but mass dark spells/puppets are my style

The Pit Lord adds a bit of staying power to a weak defense inferno line up.  Cerberi, Nightmares, and Succubi aren't going to last long and the devils not much longer.  The pit lords will be left even if they are ineffective.
