Give one reason eating animals is ok
I will probably successfully argue against any "logical" reason there is to eat animals.

These are all good reasons, but we aren't required to eat meat in order to survive. The main lack in a vegetarian diet is protein but that can easily be acquired from many sources. And a simple quality like "taste" does not make something right.
And a question about the claim of life feeds on life is, it depends on your interpretation of life. We do not need to eat sentient beings in order to survive as well.

Without keeping the food-chain alive some animals would overproduce, and there would be too many of them. But the sad thing is that people don't really keep it ordered, and so some animals got near extinction.
On the other hand not only humans eat animals  , but animals and some plants do it too, so that bad thing isn't in eating animals, but in the abuse what we humans do.

We usually kill them in a humane way (if they die with loads of pain, the meat's quality lowers).
We might need proteins, but maybe we also need the fat? Admitted, the average person doesn't require a vast amount of it to stay alive, but fat generates heat and saves something on the electrical bill. Anyway, we keep those creatures well fed and preserve their species and, in return, they give us meat. Sounds like a fair trade... A bit cruel though...

Because no one tells "us" its ok to eat sentient beings, but "us"
We make the rules sometimes based on different things, in this cast, history. They did it, why not we? Well then why don't we get 5 women and chew on a bone if we want to do like animals do, and do it like its been done in the past.
Why shouldn't we eat animals? Because no one or thing has given us the right to take life, and especially breed life in order to kill it. We have the freedom to do whatever we want but abuse it in several ways. We have been given freedom, to make laws ironically and a law should be to not kill animals or humans, but I wont go into insects. Fast 100 legged things in my house are not welcome and its hard to catch them.

We've done it for ages? and yes we have been eating vegatables aswell.
Back in the days we also skinned the creatures and ate the meat.
But now a days we don't use that much of it.. (atleast we divide cows into: Slaughter, skin and milk) . So
Pros and cons . I just think it is normal.

Nature tells us. And I don't only mean other animals. Look at our teeth for example, we have fangs that are used to tear live flesh. We were created as being able to eat sentient being and that's why it's ok. Whether we use this ability or not is up to each and every one of us.

i really didn't want to get into videos but the first 30 seconds alone of this one will show its not fun for animals.. I watched a vid pigs screaming, because they smelt death, definatly not wanting to go with that dressed up man who treats us worse than animals.. Anyways, heres the first 30 seconds of a youtube vid I recommend NOT watching the rest.
I really didnt want to bust out the slaughter house vids but dont watch after first 30 seconds and nothing really bad happens.

Free will and rights don't go well together...
We have free will to do whatever we want, that involves eating and killing animals...
EDIT: But you're right, some people do treat animals like ****, but that's no reason to ban eating animals all together.

We have not done it exactly for ages.. We used to have to HUNT when we had much larger solid teeth and didnt know how to grow crops enough to survive, when we didnt know about vitamins.
Now we do things like out of a horror movie if humans were to be in those conditions their whole life.

Because when human body will get used to some diet the effects of changing for some people can more negative then postivie.

This discussion is useless... as long as a majority of people want to eat animals things will never change... the best you can hope for is better living conditions for animals.

My ethics teacher, from a few years ago -a meat eater- said no one in the class could give a logical or moral excuse for eating meat without a winning response. I believe him, and through this thread i've seen no good reason to eat meat.

None of these are good reasons and I doubt any of you can give me a good reason.
I'm sorry you fail to accept the truth, that it is potentially very wrong to kill and eat sentient beings when we could survive fine otherwise.

You're right, there's no good reason, you win.
Now, let me see you convince the people of earth, the people who starve, that they are better off without meat.
You have the luxory to choose what you want to eat, but some people don't, and unless you're in that position, you do not have the right to say which food is better.
