I think there should be a video explaining every creatures abilities and showing what they do like the producers of Red Alert 3 did. DWho agrees?

You know, we could all agree not to use the respec function and pretend they don't exist during singleplayer and even multiplayer.

The only real need I can see for the respec option would be to get rid of skills you didn't want but got stuck with at random, since this game eliminated that, it seems redundant.

At level 20, you can reset all your ability points and assign them as you want.

While I know we can choose not to do so, I hate that they even included this feature.
What's the sense in making certain choices if you know you can just scrap it all and start from scratch again?
With Heroes 5, you truly had to make a decision based on what was offered to you on level up. Sure, with the Memory Mentor you could get rid of some, but it came at a price. Here it's just scrap everything for free and start over.

Quote: Only because I made it sound like that since it is a big concern of mine. Think about it, that way you can get so many more options in the game, try so many things throughout the game. Mind you I was amongst of the first to ask that a respec should come with a certain cost/limitation else it would be a cheap feature but either way it's just that, an option. You don't like it, you forget it's even there.
Let's just face it, the way H5 worked, your creeping was what shaped the direction of your skills while your actual opponent less so. Is that fairer? Ideally skills should be useful both early AND lategame but that was not the case. Now you no longer need to carry garbage skills and focus on what you really want whether that is combat or adventure. Realm skills are incredibly useful for instance.
Well of course one can choose not to use it, but when game is geared for you using it, you'll probably not cope by being stubborn and being stupid and sticking to your old skills.
But yeah, we're walking down a path here that leads to nowhere, because basically this is a natural extension of what they did in Heroes 5, with less skill slots on your Hero which means you simply don't have room for both early game and late game skills on your skill selection. And this again points to the fact that Hero plays a much more active role in the creaping face than in earlier games - indeed, H5 heroes were virtual one-man armies in many ways (Warlock + Destructive; Wizard + Summoning; War Machines; etc.) - the army only had importance in late game. Inevitably when game features change, it influences the whole game and how it is played.
I always felt that much of the fun of the game was the Hero building and planning thing - aiming for certain skill comboes, which in the long run would give you great gain, but which might mean sacrificing some things on the short run. And there was always that element of chance - i.e. do you plan for a rare skill to pop up, with chance of failure? Or do you see what pops up, and then plan according to that - so if suddenly your Sylvan Hero is offered War Machines, you make a short for Imbued Tripple Ballista?
Now chance is gone. Ok fair enough, so you can plan. But with this re-spec, the planning element is sort of also gone - or at least the long term is. On the other hand, you can say there is now a short-term and long-term planning - so who knows, maybe it will work out as double-up. I fear skill building and leveling will be much slower this was, because we not only have to put skill points into skills and abilities, but also spells, but I guess I'll only know after trying the game.
On a sidenote, why is it those UbiSoft people cannot just stick to one plan. First they gave HR screenshots as 1920 x 1280, then some of the Sanctuary ones came as 1600 x 100, and now they give one as 1680 x 958.

Part of the problem is that previously the spells "costed" the learning of one or a few skills (Wisdom, some Magic school, depending on the game) which occupied no more than half of your skill slots and even if your hero knew some useless spells, he/she was by no means in disadvantage because you he/she could learn better spells at any point just by upgrading the town's Mage Guild or finding external sources. Thus by choosing the appropriate skills to learn certain magic, you effectively make sure that you'll have access to numerous spells as soon as you find their sources. There is no need to "respec" just to dispose of some useless spells because there is no limit on the amount of spells that on hero can learn and it doesn't feel like you are wasting a skill slot to learn something that will become worthless later. This is valid only for inferior skills like the notorious Eagle Eye. But then again - why can't they make the skills/spells scale appropriately without becoming totally useless at one point instead of introducing the option to "respec"?
Or I'm missing something?

Well here is something to consider. Dragon Tears/Dragon Blood and "Advance Classes"..without Respec then would your build be as good for the new class? Wouldn't the new classes have a different skill tree/set up? Then how SHOULD they do it, if not respec? More memory mentor and spending hordes of money praying not to get messed around by the skill wheel?

Also, given that the max skill level is 25, and the respec is offered at level 20, it's possible that it won't have a chance to affect gameplay on shorter maps. Stop whining about it, please, at the very least until we can try it, OK?
I heard there's a "casually optimistic" club around here. How can I become an official member?

No, just some unique abilities and perhaps access to some "locked" ones from the existing skill tree.
And would you fanboys finally stop shrieking every time when someone starts doubting that something will be 100% ZOMGAWESOME? This is Discussion thread, people discuss things in it. Not praise or whine about them.

I'm usually in the stop whining club myself, but that's usually because the whining is about something ridiculously inconsequential, like Medusas or Cerberus head counts and junk.
The respec I'm pretty suspicious of. I'm reserving judgement for the beta, but it seems like something very very difficult to get just right.
