What vanilla features did they remove? And they didn't change balance that much either, just nerfed some totally OP stuff (Necromancy, which made Necropolis unplayable in PvP, Sprites day 1, from 4 to 3/week Phoenix growth (which statistically-speaking, is fair) Logistics racing-car hero) as well as balanced some units a bit (somewhat higher price for Conflex level 6, -2 luck for Archdevils, etc.).

Anyway, according to some guys in the Polish section on the HotA Discord server, the level 4 creature of Factory was confirmed to NOT be human-like. This might suck smh.

You just don't leave any stones unturned.

But, does the creature actually even exist now, or don't they actually have anything to show about the unit? Was it already confirmed that Factory is not coming on January 1st?

Nothing more was confirmed about it, just what I shared. Well, there is a reason I'm pretty much on all English-speaking communities and more.

Anyway, still related, this is a leak of the level 4 specialist Alpha portrait and art:

i don't get it. it's a wild-west looking town; removing wild-west aspects in it mean that you'll(based on your ever-extending track records) end up doing a larger overhaul than merely a couple tweaks to character development/appearance.

i have a better idea: release the town, already. you guys are second-guessing yourselves FAR too often(and increasingly so, it appears); the end of the U.S. will come about before you guys end up releasing this much-sought-after town. i'd rather get a chance to play with your town before i have to do so AFTER putting raiders' heads on pikes and trying to hijack enough electricity to power a computer.

also, if you guys do anything to your Juggernaut before releasing, i'm coming to Russia to give you guys the what-for.

I agree with the sentiment that I'm more excited about potential changes to magic and secondary skills than a new town.

Why not both? New town brings new content and new campaign which is great. The new town could happen with reworked eagle eyes and other "bad" skills, and could easily balance magic too.

To be fair imo there is no need to nerf anything, just boost fire a little and that would certainly fix it all. I am predicting the new town will focus on fire magic and improve upon it because it's underrepresented in the game right now. And that means there's a potential for great improvement there.

Only heretics and demoniacs have a (slightly) higher chance of getting it than other magics, while Navigators have a drastically higher chance of having water magic, Necromancers have a higher chance of having earth magic too, and wizards have a higher chance of having air magic.

Neutral magic heroes have the same chances of getting fire magic as other magics (stronghold, fortress and conflux)

There is only fire magic that is an oddball. Because even for heretics the choice is touchy and you'd probably want to stick with another one than fire magic anyways. Other than specific heroes that aren't related to inferno like Adrienne the Witch or Manfred the Navigator, there is very cases where it's the drawn path to take.

oh well here i am again ranting about this same subject. i've been doing that for almost six months now you must be getting tired of seeing me whining. i'm sorry, i still play this game daily and can't figure out how to make it work in its current state lmao

fire magic underrepresented?

armageddon with armageddon's blade with expert fire magic?

maybe if you nerf that while boosting the rest, your proposal would make sense.

but then again, it wouldn't be "armageddon" then, would it?

Well, it is quite an uncommon choice in PvP. And you don't usually get Armageddon, and even if you do, it might be too late anyway.

Yeah, they are somewhat lacking in design, but they are good for quickly getting a match started, in PvP as well (otherwise would be too cumbersome finding a map you both didn't play for your 25th PvP match).

In any case, my post above made reference to the usefulness (uselessness?) of Fire Magic in PvP (although I rarely play PvP myself ) as well as even PvE. It does have some good spells, but many are quite situational, and Arma rush can be risky in PvP, as well as even banned sometimes I think.

well armageddon strategy is known because it's a very straightforward strong strategy but it's not really common.

what i meant to say with underrepresented is that for every factions there's a more common path to be taken regarding magic. it's bound to two things; the chances of getting certain spells in the guild and the chances of likeliness for the heroes associated with the faction to acquire different types of magic secondary skills.

as an example, the tower guild has more chances of getting air spells and the heroes have more chances to get air magic

do you understand what i mean?

if you run them down you have the following :

castle - water / air
rampart - water / earth
tower - air
necro - earth
inferno - fire / air
dungeon - fire / earth
cove - water

the three neutral factions have heroes with mostly the same chances of getting any magic but their guilds have more likely the spells of the following elements :

stronghold - air
fortress - water
conflux - air / water

as you can see fire is vastly underrepresented. notable points in favour of fire magic is that the undeads have a high chance of getting blind and berserk, but they still have a much higher chance of getting earth magic.

i also play dungeon a lot and i would argue it's much better to go earth magic because of meteor shower, resurection and implosion, and secondly air magic is a better choice imo because you almost certainly get lightning bolt which is excellent. you also have a high chance of getting dimensional door which is arguably much better than betting on armageddon.

also sacrifice is utter trash

I don't think this is too relevant because your main hero will see a lot oft different towns. If you are going to get anywhere near winning the game, that is.

Yes I like. I wish Castle can't get a Earth by 0 or 1. Air/Water to Castle. This is one good example. Player should know how to cast spells are haste, blind and clone. Sometimes I created style in my maps. WoG is much better  what? Hidden skill in 9-10th skill can learn Necromancy, I got a idea more disabled skills, and hidden skill can learn only two skill, so hard to choose a skill, when my Homecoming map is coming, I disabled Tactics, Logistics, Learning, Diplomacy, Earth, Water, Fire and Air. If HotA will take a idea. It means HotA has complete skill way, because they can give 0, that's the better than disabled. And 9-10th can learn skill.

While you speak of fire magic... It just lacks 1 or 2 more useful spells. Also the "Armagddon" spell should be more common to "Inferno" town (atm its nearly exclusive to "Dungeon" in case of getting the spell at all), while "Inferno" as a spell is just rediculous bad.

I personally hope for secondary skill balance, it's more than needed... If it was for me... just replace all the crap skills for useful ones like HotA did with "Resistance" (which wasn't the worst skill at all). I don't really get, why it was "Resistance" that was replaced and not "Learning" or "Eagle Eye" these are by far more useless than dwarf specific "Resistance" that at least fits lore and gameplay. Can't be only the percentage of the skill to trigger... Still a permanent solution to lower the damage of spells, even if its inferior to actual "Interferance" behaviour would have fitted in better if it was just the mechanics.

Hey thanks for making HOTA!
Quick question from a newbie:

I just installed HOMM3 Complete from GOG.
Do i just need to install HOTA 1.6.1 (.exe file) and it will already include the latest HD Mod (i think its HD 5.0 RC96)?

Or do i need to download and install HD Mod 5.0 RC96 separately from its own website?
If so do i first install the HD Mod or the HOTA?

Thank you for helping out.

that's a good point. dungeon is already a strong town; including a spell that doesn't effect their most powerful unit is a bit op.

well i would say the reason heroes still have chances of learning other magics than the one their regular factions are "focused" onto is exactly because heroes must be flexible and either you get more towns or they will be recruited by other factions.

what i'm saying is simply that since there are more chances of taking these path for each factions, there is an argument to be made that fire magic is underrepresented in the game to a point where it becomes a hinderance. It becomes a secondary skill that is disadvantageous to take compared to the other ones because not only the spells are underpowered, you have less chances across the board to get them at all.

as people mention too armageddon is even rarer to the inferno (which is the only faction that is really focused on fire magic) yet they also have a unit that is immune (sultans).

oh and i totally agree that inferno is way too weak.

Even Necropolis has chance to teach you armageddon spell. I understand that NWC banned it for Conflux(without grail), so you cant do Phoenix + Armageddon runs.

I don't understand why Armageddon is allowed to be so powerful, while Inferno, Fireball/Frost Ring and Land Mine are so weak.
