that's only if you enable "PVP neutral combat" mode when setting up a multiplayer game. i'm guessing the change is that it previously didn't work for taking neutral towns and now does.

I hope they're not waiting for New Years to do the Factory update. It's almost been two whole months since they said all they had left was three campaign missions. I don't mean to be pushy, but it's only because I don't hugely care about the campaign and I'm so excited to try the town out.

I am pretty sure that Don_ko did state sometime in the past that he disagrees with releasing the Factory update on New Year's, so I am doubtful that they are waiting for that (and I do agree with him there). 
Personally, I am really excited to explore this town and its story in the campaign (which will also feature handcrafted maps using the Wastelands terrain, so that's another big bonus for me), but to each their own.

Don't get me wrong, I adore that the HotA team is dedicated to making their mod feel like a real expansion, and releasing without skipping out on features definitely plays into that. It's a huge part of what makes HotA so good. I am also going to play the campaign (or maybe just watch Lexiav do it if it's as hard as the last one). I'm just a little bummed about the radio silence after an announcement that made it seem like the update was right around the corner.

They are mostly doing this for free so they don't really owe anything to anyone so don't expect them to give updates on a regular basis. From what I understand, Docent Picolan was the main person behind the project and after he is gone, the project is no longer the same so it's understandable that not much is going on.
I advise everyone expecting updates or something better, to start donating their life savings to the team until they have a several millions in budget so they can increase development speed.

Paladin is right, Don_ko has stated in the past that there's no need for releases to come out just during the New years Eve.
However, I think it's still unnecessary to wait for Factory to come out very soon, as Don_ko also stated this when the latest screenshots were shown:
"Regarding the state of the project, it's summer now and many team members have traditionally had much less time for development. However, there is no question of the traditional “dead season” for the team – progress is still growing, if not every day, then every other day. Unfortunately, I have to say that a release this summer is still extremely unlikely." (translated by google)
Personally, I've gotten used to for the waiting when it comes for Hota, and I don't expect new updates before the New year. This "tactic" has paid off many times, and it makes waiting easier in general. If something happens before that, it's a pleasant surprise. However, this time it does seem like we wouldn't need to wait for such amount of time.

Docent was really the front face, but we have to remember there are a bunch of other really focused guys donating their time, and working to to things really great. Most of them are in the backstage, with low level code, testing, music, 2d, 3d, or concepts. In fact, this month there are some small updates almost daily on the team forum.

Sounds about right, although regardless what I just said about in earlier post, I don't think they're releasing Factory mid-december or something like that. I mean, if it's not ready by the end of November, they might just wait out for the "traditional" release date. I don't see any reason why we would need to wait for any longer than that, thou.

So you're still part of the team, fiorin?
It's good to hear there are many people participating to the project, which also explains why the project is still going onward, after all. I was pretty much sure that Hota development would end by Docent's demise. For me, it seems nothing short of a miracle that we're still getting Factory regardless of what has happened after the Factory was teased for the first time.

I'm not active because there are some guys way more skilled on the areas I was working, but I still have access to some channels.
I have tried to help on the assembly, but it is too far from my daily code routine. I was last involved on the Halfling model before being reworked by Dimas, and I have participated on further discussions on the line up, but now I'm on hold just in case.
And of course, retaking my own pet-project.
So, I'm just awaiting as you guys the updates.

Sacrificer - might
Cultist - magic
Creatures:
1. Chupakabra - vampire dog type
2. Arachnes - spider type
3. Echidna - snake type
4. Manananggal - bat type
5. Cocatrice - bird type
6. Wendigo
7. Chimera
Town represents sacrifice own units to get more power or magic points, deny of life, believes in near world ending.
What do you think?

I think you should check out the Ruins faction, it even has one of your creatures in it! You'll find it in a thread in this very same section of the forum. Otherwise maybe share those ideas in the "Heroes 7 and beyond" section, where people often present their visions for new towns.
Nowadays I am surprised how in Might and Magic 8 they could make the coatl or feathered serpent into such a cute and laughably weak little monster, when quetzalcoatl plays such a prominent role in indigenous American mythologies. Can't wait to see a more majestic version of it in Heroes 3.
