If I remember right, what I suggested was a "magnifying glas cursor" option in battle: if on, in full-BF perspective, hovering the cursor over a unit would magnify the square or 2x2) so you could see the unit in all their oh so glorious detail.

The way things worked out, that would have been a good idea for the advanture map as well.

Zooming should have been a bonus, not a necessary tool to navigate the combat map.. The default view should be close enough to feel part of the battlefield and at the same time see your units clearly without having to squint. All this emphasis on seeing the battlefield surroundings was not only useless but harmful too.

Not a very good option, as when you right-click to get HP left or other magical conditions, you will get the hover effect too, that would unnecessary charge visually. You could set the glass at hover 1-2 seconds so it gets different from right-click, but then it would really slow everything a lot.

I would have asked them wtf is the about 70% screen size surrounding objects, which are not on battlefield and I don't give a snow about.If you look at Heroes 1 pic, you observe that units visibility is such important to them that they don't even care about expanding the view to get the full tent graphic.

It's still Heroes of Might and Midgets in both images.
And that's the point, not the graphics.

News Flash!!!
HoMM3 can be easily and comfortably played in 1920x1080, thanks to baratorch's HD mod. Since 2010.

Anyway... H1 to H3 was ment to be played on 768x1024 res or lower and HVII is ment for full HD 1080x1920 res. I can add huge black border around h3 screenshot that takes 3/4 of the screen to compensate for res difference and then mock h3 graphic.

These HVII screenshots are nowhere near full resolution. Of course everything looks tiny.

Then, could you, please, show me a screenshot of H7 in all it's glory? I'm really curious, in all the images I've seen so far it was a game of ants.

Would be nice to see the H2-H3-H7 screenshots at their native resolution at default view. All the screenshots I see from google have tiny-tiny creatures unless view is zoomed in, but many of those are alpha and beta not actual game.

Still, this seems to stretch H3 beyond it's native resolution when I watch it full-screen, right?

Anyway, is this not fairly close to a true-scale comparison of H3 to H7?

It shouldn't go unnoticed that the battlefield dimensions can be changed, so that the BF fills the full screen (in the editor). In H7 you can have very big BFs.

Now, the problem to solve is that you need a full-BF perspective for the overview and general battle consideration, while the graphics and details of the unit would force you to zoom in as much as possible, if you wanted to savour that.

Of course, the last part isn't needed for playing the game; I'd have no problem, when there was only an "iconized" full BF view, but right click on a unit icon would call up unit statistics with the fully detailed HR-creature porträt.

I was exactly reffering to what Lizard posted. I get that many of you will say that H3 is better in every way but that kind of graphic is simply unacceptable anymore.
If any modern game would use that kind of combat screen its price would have to be under 15$.

Trine 3, Never alone, Ori, Darkest Dungeon are 20$ or lower. If you want Android style Heroes game then by all means 2D is acceptable.

It is certain the current H7 system certainly isn't better, though. Maybe you are right, though the battlefield layout should be consistent so it is not too tiny; those decorations take away much of the view.

When was this game made again? And you do relise that is a mod? And it still looks better than H7.
