I guess this one is for me.

So, let me see, you were one of the guys that gave me this options I use to (cowardly) win the game. Make me love WoG so much I can't nearly handle it.
And now you banish me for use the weapons you gave to a (please) 5 years old snow.
Okay, I've been expecting this from the first moment. That's why I've allways stated I don't want to be part of your "Tournament People".
And that's why you knew me AFTER I knew Wog.
Thing is, with WoG, I believe it has to be also a place for me in H3MM. I like to play this way, it gives patetic relieve from miserable live, perhaps. I know I will not visit a terapist for that.
And I'm now absolutely sure I'm not the only one who loves it.
If you don't believe me see want people ask you to do, it is frequently "who do I ennance this?", not "could make a routine that takes expert and advanced Earth Magic to the hero when he uses the spell book on the adventure map?"
And yet I STATE THAT ONE, to go with level 20 heroes automatically learn Town Portal.
As I sayed somewhere this is not the same spell that is present on 4 and 5, there it is a defensive spell in H3 is the most powerfull attacking spell you can have and - > THAT IS NOT WOG.
So, I don't lack perspective, Honorable Sir.
And I want this to be a game that can be even and doesn't give so huge advantages to some factions or best heroes, or something.
BUT I DON'T LIKE TO PLAY EVEN. I like to give strategic advantages to my player and put him in tremendous battles I allready know he will win.
I was finishing a project for H4 that has a lot of reusable objects, is something really big, took me months, since last year until 2, 3 months ago when I found Wog. It is somehow close to the map I was trying to do to in H3 a few days ago, the location and circunstances of the game are difficult, but your armys grow so big computer can't set the power of the army bar on the thieves guild. I love that felling.

So what I asking you now is: will you let me work with you?
I even fight you on Tourney1 or something, to get negative experience like my liches, but can I do with you what I was doing by myself? I believe I allready prove I can be of some use.

On the other hand, if I you don't want me to explain my WoG strategies on this forum:
is it because there are allready a Tactics discussion forum for Wog Cheaters;
or because you think I will be much more "bblooodly" satisfied when I'll get the chance to use this on a human/beginner (I'm a tavern hero did you know?) player?

Oh, I would climb those ranks fast...

Don't go mad, it's just that you wrote that you always play with option "hero receives artefact at level up" and this was why I made my remark.
That script gives a random relic at every level after 15th, from that point, the game is plain dead and hardly anything under those conditions can be considered as "tactics".

That's why there are two subforums, to avoid confusion.

Just found on the net a review made by Frank, for a game played by...Frank.  I thought would be interesting to paste it here, as is pure no rules game, and with many surprises.

This is to relate the story of a game I took part in.  Hopefully I will change your overall opinion on the hit & run matter.   The map is boomerang.  Iím red my opponent is blue.  I let him chose his starting castle - he takes castle, I stay on random - I get necro.

The game goes well for me, I take the neutral castle during week 2.  From then my idea was to attack him before week 3 starts.  But my taverns (2) revealed to me something frightening : my opponent has huge primary stats (he had gotten the sword of judgment in a floatsman...).  So here I am standing with my skeletons with a main without logistic against Pyre with the Stable (Castle), Archangels (my opponent plays first), he got chain lightning, with very powerful stats: his easily obtained 15 att 12 def 12 sp 11 kno against my hardly obtained 13 att 7 def 8 sp 7 kno.

Do you recognize this situation?  IT'S THE PERFECT HIT & RUN SITUATION!!!!   Only Iím on the wrong side of the equation...

So what do I do?  Do I complain?  Do I say itís not fair?  Do I trash talk about my opponentís unfair tactic in zone?  NO !

Sure enough this isnít looking good for me as my opponent execute the hit and run tactic perfectly.  The first fight he destroyed 1/4 of my skeletons.  Heís very fast: pyre takes 2 turns before I sustain yet another hit and run.  I canít abandoned my Rampart castle (+ 2000 gold/day and possibly gold dragons eventually).  I have 2 options.  One good and one not so promising.  I can go with all my army towards his main castle and sustain hit and run a number (x) of times or I can stay in my rampart castle and let him come to me.  The 2nd option is the good one.   Here is why:

Pyreís primary stats arenít going to increase for nothing is left to do on his side.  My stats wonít increase either but what I have going for myself is the gold income.  I have a 2nd castle giving me an extra 2000 gold/day.  Hopefully Pyre doesnít have diplomacy (she doesnít),  so surrendering and rehiring Pyre cost 5375 gold.  So while I can still buy all my troops each week, my opponent can barely finance his good hit and run tactic.  Is that coming clear to you now?   We are at the 3rd week.  I already have the troops advantage (hit points wise).  That advantage will grow.  The more Iím being patient the more my opponentís chances decrease.   His mana will stay at 110 and his sp at 12 while my troops number never cease to grow !!

Here is what I did to minimize the damage of his hit and run:

Whenever Pyre was in reach with 1 archangel I attacked her with 5 battle dwarfs, 2 unicorns and ammo cart, ballista and tent (I bought those as I needed them).  My opponent hit and run me for 1 week until he realized that he wasnít going anywhere with his tactic.

What if he brings all his troops?  The problem with chain lightning is that you can do it one time only in an open fight.  So if he tries to go for my main castle I attack him and he loses (I got meteor shower meanwhile with expert intelligence and the fountain nearby = 320 mana pts !).   If he attacks me in my castle he can do something very evil: park his one unit in front of my door and chain lightning all my none flying units to death (I canít get out of my castle if he does that until his catapult breaches my wallÖ).   But I have expert tactic, heheÖ (so I can place my none flying troops outside of my castle from the very beginning.).

So there you have it.  The perfect hit and run tactic doesnít work.

10 Years !

I've just come to realise that last Monday ( Nov 19th 2012 ) marked the 10th year of this HOMM3 tactics thread.

The fact that I am still receiving e-mails from H3 fans all over the world speaks volumes to the greatness of this computer game of the last millenium

Can anyone explain, why does the cavalry not attack pixies, if there are 4 in a row? It does attack, when there are 3. Is it because the leaving pixie blocks it's ability to joust the ballista?

Long time ago, when I discovered ToH.com, there I found a map The Great War ([URL=http://wikisend.com/download/316126/thegreatwar.h3m]thegreatwar.h3m[/URL]). As I am someone compulsive obsessive about balance and all, I found this to be the greatest map ever seen (no guards between u and enemy, no huge artefacts, big nice open land with THE MOST possible tactics). Basically, as much as you would now every hex, there could always come a player to surprise you.
Still, in here http://www.heroes-iii.com/stat_all1.php in does not exist.

Do you know it?
Why do you ppl play Jebus and not Balance if random? (I now play Balance 120-160 with basic wcl rules+no cons, hives blabla)

LATER EDIT:
One more question: when you attack archers in early weeks, is it a way of knowing how they are arranged? And what is the best possible formation to counter?
ie: I have upgraded thunderbirds which, on native terrain, manage to get at the archers ONLY of you put them right in front; but how to know...

any neutral guards are splitted according to 2 main factors:

What if "army power lower than guards' power", which is usually how it happens? Or, in order to better put it, how many more times better will make it 3 stacks or more?

If it only depends to hexes that sucks...

let's say your army is 3 times stronger than guard.
so, you will face 1 or 2 or 3 stacks, depends on map coordinates.
it's more reliable to predict when guard will have 7 stacks

There is a building I`ve seen few Rampart addict ever build.  I do it every games that last 3 weeks+.   The Treasury building.  5000 gold 5W 10Ore might seem a lot but if you do all that you should do you will get 5K + gold the very first week change it comes into play.  Day 7 you should build a market in every cities you own.  Trade every ressources you don`t need.  Let`s say you are playing a random XL map and you have 100 gems-sulfur-mercury to trade.  Depending on the number of markets you own that`s easily +15k gold before the new week.  Also do not upgrade your green dragon dwelling just now, wait until day 1.  In fact, all major expenses should wait until the next day with the exception of going to a new month.  You can still gamble it but plagues may occur every other new months and so you might consider buying all that you can to save as much as possible.  Week 3 should be your goal to build the treasury else I suggest you wait until week 5 unless you want to gamble it.

I was inferno in that game. As far as i recall he either lost in that tope or lost most of his army, which decided the game.

Sorry, you were inferno indeed.

Still, he wins that utopia, remains with 3 dragons and 1 angel. I think the sucky part was that he got snowty artefacts.
Still, HE WON! I know he gets 4 more wyverns from that tree, but how the hell... Also, in the 125 save his hero Vey has 12 wyverns.

Hi. I cant start a new Thread, so i will try my luck here.
I play 200%  difficulty RMG 8XM8 with my friends through Hamachi but i cant play on GameRanger, bacause my snowty wireless here in Germany has specific blocked ports. I cannot understand how fast you guys develop, because i always need 3 months or less. My problem is this. Besides lack of tactic skills my friends use to do this: They press End turn for a week or something like that because they gather money for Capitol, and i fight with what i can and save money and in the end they have better army, more gold and they beat me. I need something like a tip or advice or i dont know. If i cant play online to learn something at least i want to whoop my friends asses, because i taught them Heroes Sod and its unfair and kinda g@y to sit on your but and i ...ok thats it. i dont get it. and about heroes chaining. i lose my mind trying to choose who makes what.

So they just sit there for a week and do nothing..while you are trying your best..and they still get to whoop your a**?
whoa...

My advice to you is to go on youtube and look for some online games...you can learn very much from it..it is the best and easiest way...rather then just waiting for someone to write you an essay of "What to do in first few weeks of Homm 3"

Try it...look for some Marreti's videos to see how online games are played..you wont be dissapointed...

As any turn based game, every turn is critical for HOMM3. The stronger you become each turn the greater the geometrical progress of the future turns. This fades off when lots of towns, heroes and map are available for many players but it is exactly there where stronger players get the advantage. Micromanagement for anything, every turn, priorities and, most importantly, choose what is best when you cannot satisfy all options. My friends hate me and they have a dozen of reasons. 47k of skeleton warriors in 4 weeks time is the reason they forbid me playing Necropolis. 2356 Evil Eyes in 4 weeks time is the reason they forbid me playing Dungeon.

Imagine this: Would be possible for your friends to defeat you in battle if they skip (move 1 tile without purpose) for 7 combat turns? I think no.

Hate to say that, but you do not start well and they know this, so they have the luxury to wait for a week. Just out of curiosity... Don't they play at all? They do not even build or collect free resources?

Try not to fight the first week, only go out with your starting hero and gather resources, preferably gold. Build only gold-related buildings up to capitol.

Emm? Unless you edit the map there is no way to achieve that on a regular random.
